My grandma gave my parents her Buick back in the early 90's (probably 93 or so) and it still had the car phone in it. I was about 8 years old and fascinated with that thing, and the idea that you could basically take a phone anywhere that wasn't wired to your house.
The first cell phone I had was a company owned flip phone back in 1996 all out going calls were free but incoming calls were like 1.99 a minute. When my mom found out I was using a cell phone back then she thought I was selling drugs or something lol
Me and my cousin thought we was all that with the car phone he would drive his mom's car and we had a car phone built in. But this was like in the later 90s when people were still using pagers and landlines as well.
That's the transportable. The bag was a later convenience. The transportable was a fixed unit with a battery, head unit (handset) mount, antenna, and a special charging cable for the battery. The battery for most was the type used by most full size camcorders in an adapter.
The 4 devices from 00.14 to 00.25 are extremely small compared to the time they were introduced at , and surely they are all safer from the ones we`re using now (except the hand held white one ) since we don`t put the electromagnet next to your ears , thus to your brain , it`s totally isolated in the phone , and the speaker magnet is too weak to hurt us , add to this it wasn`t enslaving us all like now including myself with all the new luxury functions added with years , and most of all by distracting us while driving cooking or even walking in the street as it happened to me 2 weeks ago ,made me twist my knee to my relatively good luck compared to others who got amputee or even lost their lives for being too busy looking at cellphones , finally it`s a bless no one can deny it ,don`t make a doom by misusing , and always keep your family and your (real )beloved ones and friends in priority .
Man I didn't know the average joe schmo had a cell phone by 1995 I was kid then but I guess I never noticed or maybe remember I remember seeing everyone with cell phones by like 99
Cell phones were available by the 80s, but the average Joe smoke couldn't afford them, because the minutes were so expensive. So for most of the 90s we settle for pages, they were the cheapest mobile devices available. I didn't see average people with cell phones to about 1999 - 2000
The future looks bright!
No the future looks transfixed
1300 was a crazy amount in this time period.
It was a still a large amount even just 5 years ago, back in 2019 lmao
Could buy a small used car for that price
Wow that voice recognition is impressive for back then. I never knew they developed such a thing
The government usually keeps its best gadgets in house for 10-40 years before releasing it to the public.
And voice recognition now barley works💀💀😭
@@Ilikebredwdym, it works way better than that

Every kid should see this
Why
@@kreuner11 because it's educational
@@kreuner11 If you're going to teach kid history, sometime these video may come in handy when it comes to teaching and educational purpose.
500-1300. You could buy cars all day long for those prices, back then.
Remember got astonished when watching Charlie's Angels tv series when they had car phones in the 70s
That was the old IMTS network which pre-dates the cellular network of the 80s.
@@nmbcharger TQVM, I will try to find out what iMTS was...every call must be very expensive back then I reckon
I got my first cell phone in '98 or'99, after a payphone kept eating my quarters. It was the SAMSUNG SCH-8500.
That's a pretty phone for that time period.

Those portables didn't work for shit back then! Even in '94 when I first got one.
They forgot about the bag phone.

little did he think tablet computers will be up on your car soon
A phone that "fits" in your pocket.

iPhones aren’t even that much
Yeah I knew people with 2 phone bills. Car and portable. Now carry cameras, music,TV,Radio, computer in our pockets.
Could fit in your pocket......your pocket had to be huge!
Ya and after buying the phone for an outrages price then you got charged a dollar a minute or 2.50 out of area code 😮😮
As I watch this on my 2016 $100 iPhone.
