Heaven and hell are a weird concept to me, because ya know, happiness in heaven and pain in hell. I'm sure if it's true, everyone who would go to heaven knows and loves at least one person who would be in hell, and they would know that their loved one is burning in hell, yet they're just living their best afterlife in heaven? If that was me I wouldn't be able to stop thinking about it
I'm pretty sure I heard someone talk about how hell is from a word that means graveyard or underworld so I just kinda think that they associated underworld to hell (as in the hell with all the flames and all) and that's where it all came from I think

Having grown up Mormon, I imagined Hell, Mormons call Outer Darkness, to be an eternal void without any stimulation, reliving the the bad feelings you experienced in life. An endless blackness of regret.
Just my two cents here... There's a series called "The Chosen" that I think makes things more clear. It's educational and simplistic in it's presentation. I think it helps one to understand the God/Jesus relationship.

There is a verse in Romans where Paul tries to answer it, something to the effect of people who haven’t heard the gospel will be judged according to their basic openness to the word of god manifested in nature. Exactly.. i believe god is real but that entity realised that only happiness or sadness can’t make existence work as humans need contrast to understand the importance of each aspect… That’s why i think the people who say that we must sacrifice and suffer through our existence because there’s an afterlife sound insane.. Only things which have an end have a meaning.. there no darkness without light.. but there’s no light without darkness because we won’t be able to perceive light until there’s an end..a darkness.. People care so much about earth’s limited resources ..no one gives a fuck about the sun’s energy running out.. because guess what.. one is limited, has an end.. The latter wouldn’t even budge in our lifetimes.. Faith is not a good way to know things. A person could take anything 'on faith' even in complete opposition to something another person was also taking 'on faith' and the only way to tell who was right would be by appealing to something other than faith.
