God, I remember this now; funny how I had forgotten all about this and then it all comes back to me seeing this when I was 5. Seeing this now in one's forties makes you realize just how shite children's programmes can be that you liked as a child(!) haha
One things that's amazing about these old shows is how completely unexciting they are. The pacing is so sedate and comfortable. No wonder kids all have ADHD now.
ha! id forgotten all about this show! some1 was singing the theme and it drove me nuts trying to figure out wot it was! ah childhood memories, i was born in 77 not sure when i used to watch it though.
I bought a video in a charity shop , for 50p ..all the episodes..bargain..anyway, this is the best episode..i watched it whilst tripping once, and had laff at the umpty song...lol
Fucking loved The Flumps. Perkin was the moody one. As a child I'd don a bobble woolly hat and watch the show when it was on at lunchtime weekdays, or if I was allowed to stay home from school sick or if Mum let me stay home after lunchtime from Primary School....thems the days! Mum used to call me Pootle an all!
This button moon, pidgeon street, rainbow, why don't you, wombles, aand many many more programmes watched on a black and white tv that you had to physically tune to get one of the only 3 tv channels
My cousin and I were playing on Xbox, and we got into an argument. He tried to call me overweight, or fat, and instead stutters and calls me Flumpy. And from then on, my name on everything is Flumpy. Let it be Loyal Flumpy, iiFlump, FlumpTheWorld, anything. I also use it as a verb to describe raunchy things like "I would flump all over that girls chest." and "Flump YEAH!"
There's probably a good reason it says "gay" as Gay Soper was the narrator of this fabulous 70's children's series. Poor Perkin! It's not nice to be "umpty"!
Ha i remember this im 44 now!! the bloody flumps... It was a little bit boring. The show ended up being cancelled as two of the flumps were eaten by the Wombles of Wimbledon!!
This simply made me cry. I associate this particular episode with my Grandma - remember so vividly watching it with her as a small child.
Wonderful to hear on my 43rd birthday and how could you dislike the flumps
I loved this show when I was a kid, they should bring it back
Suddenly, I'm a 7yr old, school-skiving little sod again. They need to bring this back, with Jane Horrocks doing the voices.
HALEY
HALEY
Born 76, dont know when i first saw it but the music stayed with me and now i think there well funny!! dont mess with the flumps!!
These old fashioned kids shows are so more relaxing and slow paced compared to modern mad stuff. I remember this show fondly.
omg this is one of my earliest memories
Can relate to this episode more now as an adult than back then when i was a kid lol
holy cow, this rolls back the years..
Me, the sofa, jam sandwiches and the flumps. Ahh ! happy memories. Thanks
If you're too 'grown-up' to enjoy The Flumps, I say you've grown too far :)

These old shows had great scripts.
I remember watching this :( I am now 34 years of age :(
Its all Good :D
The quality of British TV is directly related to the amount of clarinet in the theme tune. (true fax!!!)
xD

i'm old. i even remember this
My god, I had forgotten Flumps! Remembered Bagpuss, and found them on the suggestions!

A realistic warts and all portrayal of Northern life back in the seventies.
Poor, cold and forever wingeing
I bought a video in a charity shop , for 50p ..all the episodes..bargain..anyway, this is the best episode..i watched it whilst tripping once, and had laff at the umpty song...lol
"The porridge is too loud!" LOL. I wake up like Perkin most mornings, unfortunately.

If only the blow would wind, said Pootle
They are all brothers and sister and posie being the girl and has a flowery name.
@drav6 I just looked those up, and they really do :) I think my dad might have brought some of those back from his travels to India once or twice...
@Skraboing649 ...lol...ACTUALLY...it's both...it starts with trombone, then the clarinet kicks in at 0:06....;p
This button moon, pidgeon street, rainbow, why don't you, wombles, aand many many more programmes watched on a black and white tv that you had to physically tune to get one of the only 3 tv channels

never forget the mother fucking flumps
Pootle and Posey are dope.
Where's part 2 goddammit!
They should have American voices their all the right shape and size!
so cute
Pretty much The Flumps was a family of Hairy Yorkshire testicles which wore hats and had kind of mundane adventures in an allotment.
Wow..... BABE
You made me laugh. I never laugh.
ahem cough cough
Shut up
Maggie and the ferocious beast

I feel 'Perkin' too every day. My hubZand is 'un-Perkin', which is a PAIN!!!!
I'm sure I've seen Perkin in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester. He's a crackie.

@Dhekelian Some of the stuff these days is great and influenced by these sort of things.
In The Night Garden was influenced by Oliver Postgate
@MsPeachy3 How could you forget Perkin and Pootle?!
This Show started in 1977 not 1976.
Flumps get bread.

pootle and perkin sound exactly the same, but posie doesnt. Are pootle and perkin related ?
A 20-minute programme? Children had a lot of time on their hands back then.
Press 3 and you'll get a summary of why I'm on my computer right now!
This tune has rolled around my head for the last week - now I've remembered what it was - get the fuck to hell ya furry twats!
Not quite Oliver Postgate but still brilliant.
