  • After 3 long years of ownership, and many bikes later, why do I still own a CRF250L.. I've had everything from a DRZ400 to a CRF450L and yet the only bike that still remains is the trusty 250L. We have been through a lot and I have used this bike in almost every way possible, it's not particularly great at anything but why do I love it so much?

All bikes are only as good as the riders skillset , like Ryan on Fortnine said put a set of off-road tyres on a Honda Goldwing and get it too the top of a mountain eventually.😂
I had a R9T that was unfortunately stolen
so with some of the insurance money I’ve bought a CRF 250l , had one a few years back and regretted selling it.
So I’ve just bought another .
Front fork spring and oil upgrade , Acerbis plastic belly pan and frame protection and handguards and a YSS rear shock with some Renthal bars she’s ready to go .
Still got rear rack and soft luggage from my old one , can’t wait to get out in the woods .
It’s a good bike that with a few extras can be a great bike .
    Love it .
Great vlog many blessings from the UK 😁🇬🇧🏍🦮

So now I’m buying riding gear boots etc. I have a camper I just bought too and I’m living in it because they raised my rent $500! Now I’m selling my 2021 4Runner to buy a pick to pull my camper and so I can throw my CRF250L in the back. Gonna be great adventures in my future. 😎

Idk man. I'm new to bikes. VERY experienced with cars but this sounds like the Miata. Better than it sounds, and it can do whatever you like, but if you accept it's low on power but high on fun, it's the vehicle for you. Sounds like a blast. Just bought a CRF250L and it's getting delivered tomorrow. Excited to learn what it's all about! Thanks for the vid!

    • @papatorr3669
      @papatorr3669 11 місяців тому

If the CRF250L is a Miata it's an NC, 'cause the XT225 would be the NA and the XT250 would be an NB. And the WR250R would be the S2000! Just my opinion off the top of my head. Actually, a lot of good 250-350 bikes out there. And it looks like the manufacturers are settling on the 300cc bikes. For the shorter, less muscular, budget limited riders the discontinued XT225 and DR350 are great choices. And they're lighter than the golden child CRF25OL in this video. (Oops, didn't mean to poke you in the eye)

I purchased the 2020 crf250l 2 Years ago new. the dealer pulled my pants down a little and $5,100 was just the start. Add $386 dealer prep add $1200 for dealer. so with tax about 6,800 out the door. The bike is heavy 340 lbs I am 6ft 4 275 lbs so the suspention had to be upgraded $750 for Ohlin nitrogen reserve rear,,, totally adjustable. Here's the rub Ohlin doesn't have a spring for the combined weight me and the bike. So Custom wound spring add $150. The forks were mush and heavy front breaking would want to header you over the bars, since there is only one spring Custom wound again Add $150. Needed more umph for the dirt so went 13 front 42 rear little better but was rougher on the moter hard down shifting. went back to 14 fr but 45 rear and new diamond chain Add $175 (you have to remove the lower chain guide its been one year and no probs). Next a Yoshi complete exhaust system add $750. estetics LED tail/tag light ass-end and Cyclops LED headlight. add $125 and $90 respectfully. On the third set of tires now running Kenda front and rear...Total to date $9,276.00. Now,,,would I do it again???? and I would say that for that what I do mostly is get aroud a very crowded little town for store runs, into town to pay bills or out to the beach and 40 to 50 mile treks around the area with some trails thrown in, the ability to green lane around traffic waiting 20 cars deep at a red light. I have gotten it up to 92 with a tail wind and it goes for days on 2 gals. of non eth. I don't even crank my f150 unless very inclement weather. So Yes, I would do it again. If you change the oil every 8,000 miles I can see this thing turn key press the button and ride,,,for many years,,,, I have 14,000 miles and it has never left me or not started.
Is it perfect,,,no.... Is it fun as hell,,,Yes

Your video also highlights why it's impossible to own just one bike for all the riding one does. I sold my 250L and got a wr250r, and eventually a 250 excf to do more aggressive off road ... the excf is not a lot of fun on a Sunday road and gravel ride ... just like the 250L is not great at funky single track.

Last bike was a ktm 250xc I used for hard enduro training, before that a 450rx for harescrambles and many many more... been riding enduro most of my life with some motocross thrown in there. I'm legit shopping for a used 250L to go play in the woods with. Of course it's no competition bike. Like, not even close.. its slow, terrible suspension, under powered, heavy and small. That being said, I've never had as much fun on any of my race bikes and trails bikes as I've had tearing it up on a little 250cc dual sport. They're so fun and inexpensive! I love the fact of tractoring along, taking in the views and finding new trails and features to practice on. It makes the best "scope a spot" bike I can think of. I'm terribly excited to get on one again.

I bought it brand new on my local Honda dealer and so far it has not given me any trouble. Other that the normal maintenance : oil change, tires change. chain still in good condition just tighten it like twice. Change the oil filter every oil change and have change the air filter once. It has 35000 km so far . But honestly this bike is amazingly done eventhoug it was not made in japan it follows all of their standards. I still own it and wont sell it. Keep it for ever haha.

i bought a 2015 2 weeks ago with 18000 kms , possibly the best horse in the stable , it s light, well build and alive. what i like about the bike is it makes me a better and happy rider , just enjoying the ride for the pleasure and fun of motorbike experience . i was a hooligan and piloting the roads, tracks. i traded all of that for a great transport to go from A to B , while riding to Z , just because it will go. Great bike , great possibility, don t forget to stop and take a pix cause it will take you to those places.
already 1200kms of, roads, dirt, sand, rocky hill and technical low speed roots, it did perform better than expected ,the bike has it s limitations, but i think that balance the whole package of this dual purpose machine. Nice one Honda , this bike fit perfectly in my lifestyle.

Hey great to see you back out on the little red piggy!!
I swapped my 2017 CRF250L a few weeks ago. I put 11K miles of off road miles on her so I do have a soft spot for the 250L and always will.
I swapped her for a 2003 RX250R, there are things I miss, like a battery, my heated grips in the sub zeros as I ride 90% of the time at night and fuel injection.
But the XR is 40kg odd lighter, if she stays reliable I will be very happy as the XR is a hoot to ride. Biggest worry is that parts are not easy to come by in the UK>
Stay safe and enjoy the summer yeah!!!

First of your vids I've seen, good stuff, I've got the 300 rally, not so many trails or good weather days in the UK so it made sense to get something with a bit of fairing, my suspension will be sorted as soon as it turns up. 80 odd MPG (uk Gal) Thought I would miss the power, I did for a little while, now I just take the roads less taken and I absolutely love the little honda. Keep the CRF videos coming, it's great to watch you flying about.

I believe the 650L is the "big red pig" 250L is probably the little red pig, I love mine, put 3000 miles on mine last summer, largely off-road, running B and A single track, trailered out to Wyoming, road all over the mid west, I've bike swapped with KTM and beta 250's and 300's and sure they are better dirt bikes, but I just can't see myself needing one, the 250l is so comfortable even in the whoops and stuff, and I've had no problem keeping up with the other bikes, mind you I've been on dirt bikes since I could walk, this is my 4th bike so I'm no rookie, the biggest thing is in wisconsin its just a lot easier to ride a dual sport with the way most of our riding areas are setup, we need to be plated to ride any four-wheeler or atv trails, and getting from single track to single track is 100000 times easier if you're plated... and for technical single track I haven't ridden any dual sport that I would rather ride than the 250l

I came across your video just after I sold my trusty 250L for a DRZ400. I hope I'll not going to regret it. I wanted more power. I was torn between the new CRF300L and the DRZ400... I chose the DRZ400 because the North American version of the CRF300L only got 27hp as opposed to 31hp in many other countries.

It's nice for you to keep something for the long haul, especially the 250L. This week, I'm rebuilding my CRF230M with a high compression piston and some other goodies to get more life out of the machine I had since 2014.
And after some serious consideration, I have decided to go out and spend my hard earned money on something else.
Never thought I would be in the market to buy a pair of Crocs to go riding in.

The weight difference between the 250l and 450l is about 30 pounds, I'm surprised you didn't feel that.
Also not a fan the crf250l is made in thailand as opposed to japan like the 450.
Are you going to get the crf300l? More power and less weight.
I'm waiting for yamaha to come out with something to replace the wr250r which is what I got.

You can get anywhere with 15hp and two wheels. Before I got a 250l I had and still have a Tao tbr7 dual sport. I’ve made more 150mile trips to my cabin for the weekend and then put 150miles of trail and forest road riding on and rode 150mi back home. People who brag about having 200hp on two wheels crack me up. I can’t get the full potential out of 20ish hp on a trail

I learned to wheelie on my 250l. It’s not hard, you just have to stay in the gas more after popping the clutch. You also might want to re-gear it though it will make it muuuuch easier. The bike in the video here is 13/42 and I run the same gearing
