Cheap performance mods crf250l

  • This works for 2017-2020 crf250l. I may have been too excited when making this and it will not make your 250 into a 450, but it will give your 250 more bite. This will give roughly 4hp or 5hp according to dynos with full systems and the difference is quite noticeable. Really is incredible for the price $250 vs $700+

    These new settings were based on numbers found from forum sites posted by user Minkyhead. He had taken his bike to get a dyno run and this is what the tech decided were best for the bike. I have been running these for over a month, my gas mileage has improved and i haven't noticed a loss or increase in power. I put the snorkel back in my bike as many people as well as dyno tuners made it clear it does nothing to help performance.

    I just installed the spark arrestor and EJK this evening, based mostly on this video. I like that I can put the old spark arrestor back in for hunting season. Your updated EJK numbers work perfect. Great info thanks!

    The YSS rear shock and Race tech Front fork upgrade adding a spring and heavier fork oil is a must! Transforms the bike. Super comfortable absorbs the bumps and keeps you in control. Thanks for your tips on the video!

    Being a used KLR owner, I appreciate a performance and aesthetics review from someone who considers a $25 investment "expensive." Seriously... watching the other channels folks are blowing thousands on upgrades like the rest of us are made of money. I'm looking hard at a lighter, fuel injected bike, for the TAT. The CRF250Ls, the WR250R, even the KTM 690 Enduro would be lighter than my 2008 KLR. Subscribed. I'm interested in the rest of your TAT build-out.

    • @BlakeCKelly
      @BlakeCKelly  4 роки тому

      The reason I love the hondas is because how cheap they are and what little it takes to increase performance. A wr250 is double the price with a small upgrade. If you're coming from a klr though, you will be much happier with the 690. I have an xr650 as well and they are worlds apart. The nicest thing about the xr is its ability to cruise all day on freeways for a trip back.

      @@BlakeCKelly I'm curious, if you have an XR650L, and you are a bit use to 450R power, why not just use the XR650 for your street/TAT needs?
      I ask, because I am thinking through the same dilemma. I have an older CR250 (2-stroke), which is way beyond my skills...the thing rips. I'm 6'1" and 250 lbs without gear and the thing will pull power wheelies in 3rd. But I want something in addition to this bike that is street legal, that can also do offroad. I might do some smaller, 2-3 day "TAT style" trips. So given all this, I am torn between getting the CRF250L or the XR650L.

    • @BlakeCKelly

      @@waltermitty7452 Now this is a very difficult question. The xr and crf are very different bikes with seperate price tag. The reason I went with the crf us because it is almost $2000 less and has quite a bit of updated parts. The power is about 24hp in the crf vs about 40hp in the xr. The crf is quite a bit lighter and easier to pick up after spills. The main reason I am going with the crf250l for the TAT is because someone else will be joining me and possibly riding the xr. I like the crf over the xr for its lightness, gas mileage, and capabilities. It is just as capable offroad as the xr, has the power to do anything, but in the road the xr is better. For you, if you plan on doing a lot of freeway riding to get to the trails then maybe the xr would be the better choice. If you are not doing a lot of freeway then I say there isn't much better than the crf. The price is cheap, power is plenty yet nowhere near your cr250, the fuel injection is awesome, and the updated tachometer and speedometer is nice. This may be a whole video in itself but I hope I helped in some way.

    • @waltermitty7452
      @waltermitty7452 4 роки тому

      @@BlakeCKelly Thanks for the reply. I'm really torn. As you know, the specs on the bikes are a lot closer then many might think.
      CRF vs XR
      Weight: 322 lbs vs 346 lbs
      HP: 24 vs 35
      Suspension Travel: 9.8" and 9.4" vs 11.6" and 11"
      Ground Clearance: 10" vs 13"
      Seat Height: 34.4" vs 37"
      Wheels: 21/18 vs 21/18
      MSRP: $5,199 vs $6,999
      It's hard to buy a new bike that is air cooled, and has a carburetor. But at the same time I'm worried that the CRF might feel under powered given my size. It's a tough one.

    • @BlakeCKelly
      @BlakeCKelly  4 роки тому

      @@waltermitty7452 the main difference in the two bikes that I noticed is the weight and torque difference. The feel in power is pretty huge so I wouldn't really say they're that close. I have had many people tell me they would rather have the 250l over the 650. I'm 5' 11" and the 250 is a good height, my dad is 5' 10" and the 650 is too tall in fact we put a lowering kit on it. I would say the biggest thing to help you would be to find a dealership and ride them both. Personally I prefer the 250l for both off and on road, but the 650l has the capability of long freeway hauls.

    About the Sprockets: I just installed 13/47 on my bike, and you can hear the bike is screaming over 60mph. Sure it gave increased acceleration, but now i think, 13/42 is the perfect ratio IF you ride it on the road also. Because on 13/42s, the engine runs much smoother at 60mph(96kmh) and above. Ride safe o/

    For me personally, now that I have a 13 tooth front and some killer tires, I like the stealth mode quiet exhaust. Hell the transmission is louder than my exhaust 😂. I can understand why people want to mod for performance. Stock is fine with me. I think I’d put my money towards suspension just because I’m a little bit husky. 😂 this this is a ton of fun. I’d like to drive one of these with a street moto setup. Like speed speed with pure street tires.

I'm southern WV so there is a lot of up hill roads lol. 80% of my rides are off road. I think I'll start with your performance mods. $260 won't break the bank. Thanks for the video. The spring is not heavy enough and twice when I have dropped my bike, the phone has come out of the mount. I just purchased the rubber pieces that you usually see with the x mounts to try and compensate for the heavier phone.

      k&n not good for dusty conditions. UNI two layer foam (available online from Australia-reasonably priced) equally unrestrictive plus good in the dirt. Easing intake and exhaust restrictions without adjusting mixture (EJK) mitigates potential performance boost and could damage or shorten the life of the engine due to induced mixture leanness.

    Hi, I do not think just removing the air itnake restrictor does any positive job. Tube shape of restrictor has the purpose to accelerate and direct the air flow. I think the only effect is the sound but for power it would be better to use similar restrictor with bigger diameter. Nevertheless I think any change in performace (increasing or decreasing) is hard to measure on this kind of "powerful" bike.

      @@shafshah201 honestly I've never had ABS on a motorcycle before so I wouldn't know. I will say that I've never really needed it but I've been riding for a very long time. For me it is not a necessary thing, but the 250l has a switch so you can turn it off for offroad riding which is pretty neat. I guess it is more of a nice-to-have rather than a necessity

    • @BlakeCKelly
      @BlakeCKelly  4 роки тому +3

      Very good question. My reasoning behind the 250l is that it is a cheap reliable road bike amd something I can use offroad if I want. The 250l is not built to be thrashed offroad like our 450r's. I wanted it mainly as a road bike and small adventure bike while my 450r is my offroad bike. The 450l is very good offroad, only okay on road, not quite as capable as the R but good enough for me. The L was too expensive and the maintenance intervals were too high for me to justify.

    Great video. I have a 2017 CRF250 Rally and so far had left it stock. Was considering some performance enhancements but didn't want to stray too far from stock, and was also worried about losing some top speed. I'm not a small guy (6'4", 220 lbs) and stock I can get the bike up to around 60 mph. I don't plan on doing too much if any highway with the bike but would like to keep that as an option and had read that some of the performance enhancements came at the cost of some top speed reduction. Your modifications are less extreme I think (I think the main top speed loss is when you start tinkering with the sprokets, but I may be wrong). Can you comment on if/how your top speed was affected by the modifications you documented in this video? Thanks.
