- How to Replace an Idle Air Control Valve.
Here is a super easy fix! I tackle fixing my idle air control valve to see if this solves any of my idling issues. I have had really weak idling and sometimes a nonexistent idle so lets see if this helps at all. I have been working on improving my 1993 Dodge van since I bought it 3 years ago.

Thank you so much for watching my videos! I enjoy making them and hope to show my view of my life in an interesting and curious way :) Please feel free to contact me online if you have any questions or comments.
#vanlife Is new to this generation; a counter-culture whose mission is based around the idea of living more outdoors, being eco-friendly, and often times affortable. There are different off shots of this culture that are known as Escapees, Escapers, RubberTrampers, Digital Nomads, Snow birds, Rainbow kids, dirt bags, etc. People live in anything that moves, SUVs, cars, trucks, campers, trailers, bikes, tents, Class A's, school buses, step vans, Subaru's, and more. Some of us ask if others are "full-timers" or "part timers" This just means if you have a sticks and bricks(house) home base or if you have sold everything and are always on the road. I have been full time in my van for 2 1/2 years camping, boondocking, stealth camping, driveway surfing, parking lot hopping along the way. Every place is new and different and I have friends in many states now. The day to day life is interesting and filled with unknowns. I do get frustrated at it sometimes but I find that even after a few months of staying still I need to pick up and keep going. Seasonal and temporary jobs keep me going but also your support of my channel. I don't know if I would be still on the road in this capacity if it wasn't for your support and encouragement. I feel honored to have so many people rooting for me to keep at it! Through trials and tribulations, sunrises and sunsets this lifestyle change has been a growing experience.
Stay Curious!

Thanks for posting, this is exactly what I needed for my '94 B250
Great choice in vehicles
Thank you so much I own a Dodge Ram 1500 van and have been looking on tutorials on this
I have a Ram ‘94 B350 I’ve been wondering how to remove that darn cover it’s just like mine. I have to try and get it off tomorrow because that air filter NEEDS replaced pretty bad. Thanks for sending, you got yourself a new sub! ❤️👏🏽
I have a 1994 Dodge Ram Van B-350 5.9L V-8. Good job. I’ll check out your other videos.
Those are called Torx head screws. They're supposed to be easier to tighten than Phillips head screws. Good luck with your van Karli.
Sala_13 thank you!
glad it seemed to start for you. Hope it takes care of your problem
You can unscrew the other sensors off of the throttle body. Take off the throttle cable. Unbolt the throttle body from the engine (plenum). Then throw it in a dishpan with dawn soap. Let it soak it hot water. Clean the carbon dirt off completely. While you have the throttle body off, drop a little magnet down one of the holes onto the plenum pan tied to a string. If the magnet sticks - it's the original steel plenum pan at t hff e bottom of the inside of the big silver vacuume cleaner like plenum intake the throttle body is mounted on. If it doesn't stick, it's been replaced with the proper Mopar aluminum plenum pan. Gaskets on the original steel ones fail and leak oil onto the pan because the plenum is aluminum and expands less than aluminum, breaking the gasket seal. They also collect pan oil from a broken PC Valve - like mine was. There's a Mopar aluminum plenum kit for Dodge B250's. About $150. Mine's still a steel pan, but luckily isn't leaking yet. But I'm ready when it happens. A lot of UA-cam videos on it.
Oh crap!! They're stars.....lefty Lucy!!! ....and the cheeky cherub laugh....you have a way of making my day better and making me smile , oh mallard's indeed, they're curious Lil bugger's...😊 Keep smiling and laughing xxx
Your dad would be so proud that you're learning at such a quick raid about Sherry!
One question but it has to do with the new battery... Why didn't you change out the battery cables you got the same time your new battery? Your battery terminals are pitted and may cause problems down the line. I'm just wondering. You did a great job on changing out this part
Thanks for your video.Hoping it helps mine
In a few weeks I’ll be uploading a video detailing how to rebuild these throttle bodies.
You did a great job!!
Cheers AdventureVanMan for introducing me to this channel! Time to binge :)
She can edit she can travel she can build she can work on cars. Amazing woman
Mike Brooks yes she is
great job. had same issue. replaced IC valve, throttle position sensor, MAP sensor, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap & anchor but eventually it was the EGR valve.
Excellent job of r&r and your channel is excellent as well, I subscribed! Plus, your name rocks!
Cross my fingers, toes & eyes that this was the fix, how'd it start and idle when warm/hot? Great video Karli. 😁
You're becoming a wiz at Auto repair.
PVC Valve, $3.99 on passenger side, middle of valve cover.plastic flex tubing on wire harness you fixed, protects against heat.
2nd the Motion on the battery cables. ALL IN FAVOR SAY AYE !!
Thanks
I hope that fixed the problem, Karli. Whoever filmed you did a good job. 🙂
Chief Engineer Karli is working on the machine! Oh, yeah. Very Cool. Go Karli, go Sherry! See you, Vic. :-)
P.s.: Miss the last video, Karli? Is it broken? LoL ;-)
Hi Karli just found your channel while watching the Static campervan l for got his name but you did a great video with him he is a real nice guy . love your videos l cant wait to get on the road to see new places more nature, just been working lots just lately so lm on a campsite. by the way you have a great attitude & outlook on things plus your real sweet too :-) steve UK
So to anyone watching this. I have a 1996 B2500 Dodge Conversion Van. It was dying out sometimes, then it started dying all the time when it was warmed up. Pulled this part off and it was stuck in position, quick replacement, $30. Started Van and runs like a new van. Good luck out there.
Good luck with that coolant temperature sensor it's no picnic especially the one that's in the other side of the thermostat housing neck the one toward the passenger wheel fairly easy
Nicely done! 👍😁
Great job girl! I learned something! Thank you!
this is great you go girl!
You go Karli !
So did it work? You should do a quick add on in comments or something. I have the same issue and your video came up. Thanks

Very good job did not know you were such a good mechanic LOL😋😎
Woman fixing machines 😍
So proud!
Good Luck...!
Great job. You are awesome!
I truly enjoy watching you with tools fixing things .. It's a beautiful site as always seeing you .. Hoping this fixes your idle issue .. When it's hot does it still idle ok ?
Check the idle it’s to low put scan on it see rpm on the throttle body idle screw wears bringing the idle down. Just turn it up just a tweak I think it is ok 👍🇨🇦🇨🇦🛠🛠
BADGE EVERY ONE NEEDS ONE: u need to use ,,, and ... in order for a sentence to make sense.😂
PEOPLE, PLEASE PUNCTUATE !!! 😭😭😭
Fixing a IAC on the van hopefully that fixes the issues you been having looks like you went to O'Reilly's or somewhere that carries standard parts
Awesome girl ..... Big thumb up up ! Thanks for sharing 😘👍👍👍
There it goes
Excellent. New subscriber.
Karli da mechanic !!
Saludos desde mexico df
Good job ;-)
Hooray!!!
Awesome🌵😊✌👍
Hey girl you might check your vacuum lines at the age your van the rubber lines get brittle .Get a big roll on line and replace them all ,first the one from the carb to the dist. Get a vacuum gauge and check .
Might get dad to help you
Like your video and you are too cool
Just found your channel lets camp together always like to meet other young travelers:)
Always makes engine run smoother if you spray carburetor/throttle body cleaner into carburetor and blow out all the carbon. Look into it if you are interested, to verify method and precautions. Engine will sputter and thick black smoke comes out of tailpipe as it blows carbon out.
You working out? Looking good!
👍.
Chrysler's are cold natured and I learned is a 318 which is what you have has hydraulic lifters and if just one lifter goes bad that's it you got to replace a while yuck sorry didn't know you could turn a wrench so good you can do a little of everything
I have a question. I have a 94 same van. It likes to stall a lot at like every red light or fight when I park. Do you think replacing this part will help
Would this affect my idle when making sharp turns, I’ve been stalling only when I make tight 3 point turns and my steering wheel is fully cranked
how has your idle been since replacing this? great video, thanks!
I repaired many sensors and things on this van that didn't fix the over all problem so it is hard to say.
😎👍👍
Replace your coolant temp sensor. If it's throwing a code start there.
Got my fingers crossed that this fixes your issue!
Hey Karli, if you can re-edit your last video, you should upload it again. It will give you more views and feedback on your mechanical problems.
How do you know if you need a new one of these?
You wouldn't unless you bench tested the device and it didn't meet specification (high electric motor current draw or sticking on rotation).
Old Dodge vans die because of the stupid emissions parts they force us to use. And you can't find aftermarket parts for those emission parts.
This is not good news.
Marriage material😂👍
I hope that works for you
If your dad pushed it in then the computer has lost track of the position and is trying to make up for the extra air by cutting back on fuel
Am I losing it or did one of your videos disappear? Anyway, this one was cool too and it had ducks.
I miss it too, Karli! :(
The idle air control valve wont keep it from starting. Also, it typically will fail in the open position making it fast idle, not stalling. Hopefully that cures the problem.
I would be highly suspect of the ignition system for hot stalling issues, ie. Distributor pick up sensor, ignition coil, crankshaft position sensor. Also, check fuel pressure when hot.. I can hear you have a sticky lifter. Buy a bottle of "lifter free" and add to your oil.
Definitely check the crankshaft position sensor. Causes stalling. Rough idle and poor acceleration. Easy to access cheap to replace. Wouldn't hurt to swap the ignition ignition coil seeing as it's only a few bucks and this engine only has one if I'm not mistaken.
3:10 I don't understand the need for that special torx screw unless it is for slowing down thieves from stealing the IAC, otherwise it's just annoying that they can't use a standard philips screw ( or standard torx ).
It’s a a T25 screw
They work better than philips and that was the tamper proof so not everyone could take them out. You might have a problem in your vapor recovery system letting vapor in at the wrong time (charcoal canister)
The duck with the green head is a mallard{boy-duck} and the other less colourful duck is a drake{girl-duck} they are a couple, you can watch the Mallard/boy to watch out for the other duck. 1993 was the year the major auto manufacturers started putting all sorts of Emissions equipment onto these USA vehicles. Also starting to use Computers etc. The older vehicles before 1993 come with much less Electrical components making them much much easier to work on and buy parts for. It's these earlier years of 1993 to 2000 when you should avoid buying an older vehicle as the manufacturers did Not have the process perfected making these years 1993-2000 vehicles suspect to various electrical failures with all sorts of electrical problems. Either buy before 1993 or after the year 2000. Do your research just dont buy a vehicle out of emotional Want or Impulse. Be practical and again do your research by searching through the web to find the most common faults of each specific vehicle. remember no Automobile ever made is Perfect. They are the culmination of making the Least Possible Product for the Most Highest Profits. They/We could make a car that never wore out for a very small price but that is not how our system we live under works. We live under a system where we get the crappiest thing they can make at crazy exorbitant prices to keep us coming back to buy more and more and more and more. Eventually our system will collapse as it can not generate unlimited unsustainable growth year after year decade after decade. Buts thats another story....lol...
hope that repairs helps solve some of the problems and if nothing else your a wiz at dog house removal, now were the ducks just visiting or do they hang out there all the time, remember don't feed them bread not good for them, I came across this family of ducks media.fotki.com/2v2J4ZTDmxJLZ9S.jpg
At 2:00 you put a note that it didn't want to start after pumping the gas. With fuel injection you are NOT supposed to touch the gas when starting. Older carbureted engines need you to pump the gas to set the choke and squirt some fuel into the intake through the accelerator pump when cold. Your computer, if pressing the throttle when starting, thinks you are trying to clear a flooded engine and is therefore not giving the engine any fuel.
Also, wrap the wires you crimped with some electrical tape to keep them from flopping around. Crimp connectors don't handle vibration well.
I think What she meant was after she pumped (filled)up her gas tank as opposed to pumping the pedal and Yes that's great advice to put electrical tape on those terminals . Hopefully it'll start well now before she ends up having to replace the starter! Lol
@@dbrown6936 If you watch the video of her trying to start the van after having the battery replaced, she clearly pumps the throttle before attempting to start it.
Fuel injected engines can be a bear to diagnose if you don't have experience with them. Add in things like leaking vacuum hoses from age and diagnosis is rarely quick. I was a fleet mechanic for a company that had loads of those Dodge vans. Were she not on the opposite side of the country I'd donate some time to help her out. Heck, up until last month I had a spare low mileage engine from my last Grand Cherokee that would drop right into Sherry.
@@jamesgill5511 yes sir i did the times where she pumps the pedal and it drove me crazy! Hahaha. Yup we would all love to help her but just to far away. Will be watching from the sidelines, have a good day.
Good job Chica !! Honestly seeing women take care of their homes engines seems "less" intimidating for me... well sorta, kinda… :/ Thanx
That Canadian Chick i got you young lady:)
Gee, thanx 💜 But your so far away from me, lol !!!
Air inlet temperature sensor , if the engine is not running well once cold. It is placed on the right side of the front part of the manifold bridge. Kisses Uwe
stop putting thoses screws above that open carb. your making me nervous.
