  • Procedure for 94-97 and should be "similar" for 72-03 WITH AC. If Dodge would have allowed an additional ONE INCH of clearance, this would be a 30 min job to remove but instead you have to remove a slew of body panel bolts just to get the core support to flex enough to get the box out.
    NOTE: If you are only doing the heater core, you don't need to remove ALL the screws at the interior air intake (where your feet go), just pull the ones along the top of the intake. I pulled them all but the bottom screws only hold the bottom box on that holds the blower motor. I had a leaky heater core AND a broken air recirculate door as you will see in the video LOL

    My mechanic buddy and I are tackling this today. Thanks brother! It's 30 degrees out and unfortunately I need the heat.

    My heater core just went. Doing a bypass. On the SoCal coast so I don't need heat. Thanks for showing us how big a job this really is 😳. Now I know what the ducts look like under all of that. And where the coolant leaked.

    I appreciate your help
    I have the same van with the same problem.go figure .but she been so good to me over the years I don't mind putting more money into it. My AC radiator is leaking the one inside the box. And I will definitely take your advice and block that recirculation door off

    Man what a great video! Even though I have the real Dodge shop manual, this shows the rotten foam diverter door etc. My 2003 has the same issues with the heater core and door. thanks!

      Any fix for that?

      @@infernaldaedra Turns out my heater core wasnt leaking...it was non OEM. hose clamps I replaced with OEM. Best to leave that diverter door stuck closed. It works best on inside air and keeps the dust out of the ducts. A person would have to fabricate a new door and its not needed.

    do you have to let the freon out when removing the ac lines or recharge it afterwards?

      I'm rewatching the video. I have a bad habbit of skipping around. so, sorry if you explain it in the video and I didnt hear it. But just curious. I've got a 99 im wanting to do the exact same thing to. My problem is I dont have cold air in the front of the van. rear works fine. Im suspecting a dirty evaporator. Clearly Ive never mesed with an ac system on an automobile. Just recharged the freon a time or two, Just wanna know what Im getting into before I start removing ac lines. THANKS for any help you can give!

    • @2bitProjects
      @2bitProjects  Рік тому

      Yes you must evacuate to Freon first

    There shouldn't be any SAE fasteners on a 1997 van...everything was supposed to be converted to metric long before that for sale out of North America.
