I just transitioned my 2 year old to a toddler bed as well. Here's some tips that I have found to work. Carry her to bed and lay her down. Make her super comfortable with her covers (she's like me... The more comfortable the bed linens are, the more she wants to stay in bed.) Read her a short bedtime story in a hushed tone. At the end of the book say "the end" and tell her goodnight with a kiss to the forehead. At this point she always turns over on her side and snuggles up with her stuffed animal. We've been doing this for about 3 weeks now and she sleeps perfectly. I have also found that if Rylee doesn't take a nap during the day she wakes up in the middle of the night. But if I can get her to take a short nap in the car that day she does great that night. Plus waiting to put her to bed when she's really tired helps too. Every kid is different of course but just remember you got through it with Presley and you'll get through it with Ford too. Good luck!
We didn't have any trouble...for the first couple weeks. Then we started having trouble with her staying in bed. I first watched this video during the weeks with no trouble, and thought " well, this is going great for us!". Then we started the problems and all i could think about was re-watching this video. This was so helpful! It gave me tons of tips and tricks!
I don't know what the "right" advice is, but we just waited it out! I just made sure he consistently was put down in his bed for naps and nighttime, and one night he started sleeping through the night without any issues! Good luck!
My baby is five and STILL finds her way into bed with me most nights. I don't even notice until I wake up. When I ask her why she says "you birthed me to cuddle you, it's my job."
Old babysitting trick for timeouts: color coded door hang. Hang a door hanger on your door or his door (like a do not disturb sign) but using colors so little one's can understand. One sides red, one side is green. Green means okay to be awake, and red means go back to bed. It might take some time but it will at least help knowing when to be awake and when to go to sleep.
Ford is so ridiculously adorable, oh my goodness. My son did the same thing. I went from crib, to toddler bed, and now a regular twin bed because he continued to keep trying to climb the sides of the toddler bed and that was just too dangerous. He doesn't try any risky moves in a twin and he's not even three yet!
+WhatsUpMoms My daughter did the same thing. So I also had to switch from toddler to twin and it was working for a while except now she thinks its okay to stay up until 11 at night. Going through it right now. lol
+WhatsUpMoms so does my 2 year old sister she sleeps in a cot it's a bunk bed with a cot on the bottom and my older sister on the top bed and my 2 year old sister Amy always climbs out of it so we put a gate in the door ❤️ u
Hi Elle,I'm kinda late when I'm writing this and I know you probably don't have this problem with Ford anymore but, if you have the same trouble with Tess and her coming out of her room at night and you are not comfortable with locking the door, you can get these latch things; they are basically sticks with hooks on the end that you screw to their bedroom door and they come with a very small square of plastic with a ridge in it that you screw to the top of the door frame so if Tess tries to open the door, it will open a crack so she can see into the hallway but it won't open completely; keeping her in her room but letting light in. My Mum's friend tried it with her daughter when she was young and it helped tremendously. It also stops little people getting into rooms they shouldn't be in. Love your channel and all of its ideas!
Try putting a child proof door nob cover on his side of the door. That way when he gets up in the night he can't get out and will go back to bed. Also it is a lot safer then a lock!
+Kassi Nelson That seems like a good idea, but it only worked for our toddler for a few weeks. While he still at 3 1/2 can't open the door with that on, it only took him a little while to figure out how to remove the whole device from the knob.
+Kay L. That is sort of a silly question. I would think they would be smart enough to go get their kids like every other responsible parent. My daughter sleeps with her door closed and I usually close my door. Grabbing my kids would be the first thing I would do.
He is so cute. Just hold the little guy in your arms until he falls asleep. The days will pass so quickly. Screw the Joneses, don't try to keep up with anyone (social media or materialistic), slow down and embrace each day as a blessing. You know this.... :)
I'm a little late but the first time: they come out say it's time for bed [insert kids name] walk theme to there bed Second time: say its time for bed and walk them to there bed Third time: say nothing and put them in there bed it worked on the kids that i would babysit at bedtime
Ford is precious! My little one is 5, and he wakes up almost every morning and gets in the bed with us. Sometimes it is 4 or 5 a.m., but sometimes it's even earlier. I actually don't mind, though because he turns over and goes right back to sleep. It gives me time to snuggle with him, and I don't see him as much since he is in school all day now. However, to each their own. Every parent has to do what is right for him or her. Good luck, Elle! Love your videos! 😀
+Christina Smith That's how my son is. He wakes up once a few hours before he's ready for the day and comes in and cuddles with me. I'm fine with it. But he sleeps 8-9 hours in his bed first. I love the snuggles in the morning.
my little brother is all ready 5 and a half and he wakes up early in the morning to play on the Xbox or use the iPad with the volume super high which wakes everyone up!
+Chandler Redmond that's an extremely rare case. Most of the world cosleeps with babies and toddlers and have no issues. It's healthy for mom and child.
My brother started crawling out of not the crib, but the playpen. He crawled out of the playpen and into a chair. Then to the rug. And he did that all the times. He was 1 years old when he started and he finally ended when he was in pre-k, 3-4 years old. Man!!!! He was big trouble!!!
An elephant stepped off my back when you said he cried for 30min. I felt like a horrible mom the other night while attempting to sleep train my son. He cried for about 15min then I gave up and put him in my bed. Thank you for your transparency.
When I was younger I got out of my “big kid bed” al the time so my mom put a lock on the door and not even 15 minutes late I went to my parent's bedroom lock in hand and said here mommy.
When you said "Im considering getting a lock on the door, but im a really heavy sleeper..." my heart skipped a beat, because if there was an actual emergency like a fire, he hurt himself badly (like blood, not just a bump) or vomit, you wouldn't be awake for that, to help. That honestly scared me so badly. I dont have kids (im *11*) but i NEVER want to loose a child, or think im ignoring them. Love ya and your familys, WhatsUpMoms!
I just love Elle's kids soo muchhh they are just the cutest thing ever now they all are grown up that's why I'm here watching their childhood videos because they make my day!
I gave my kids a grow clock... It has a picture on it when it is day it is a sun and when they go to bed you press a button and the picture turns into a moon... It REALLY helped
Do not lock his door--my parents did that to me & I remember having a panic/hysterical fit. Use a good baby gate on the outside of his door. You could maybe make his bedtime a little latter so he doesn't wake up so early. Turning clocks back an hour has something to do with his waking up so early.
You do you, girl!! You're doing great as it is and it's such a treat to hear what's working and what's not. We were spoiled and Bradli just "got it," but I'm convinced it's because she likes to sleep and not because of anything we actually did. I hope you're able to catch a few winks when you're able. Being tired is no fun at all!!
This.is.PERFECTION! Can't tell you how many videos and articles I have read feeling like I didn't find the answer or information I was seeking. I love how you explained everything and your experience and those little things that most people skim over( locking the door then the sleepy regression) we sleep trained our son and now we have another on the way in a few months so it's time to get him in that big boy bed. I know us being in the room/ keeping the door unlocked won't work bc we didn't do that when sleep training so I'm Glad to hear your experience worked!
My sister transferred to her new bed at the age of 2.what my mom did is that she told her that when she woke up she would give her a reward,it only worked for 2 weeks 😒.so she told her that if she doesn’t get the hang of the new bed.she won’t be able to get a big kid bed like me

He's super happy because this is just one more part of growing up, that and now he's like his big sister and not in a crib. :) it'll happen... eventually ;)

try rewards. give him a toy if he sleeps in his bed all night. it will form a habit where he knows he'll get a surprise if he sleeps in his big boy bed.
Lauren Blevins rewarding children in abundance isn't recommended as they may stop the desired action you prefer once the reward is discontinued. Use rewards with caution. There is also a book titled "Punished by rewards" that I encourage parents to read :)
When I was little I used to start coughing and my mom would bring me to the bathroom and sit on a chair with me in her arms. She would turn on the shower until I stoped coughing. And sometimes it would be at like 2:00am but she sill did it. #MomsAreAwsome.
What I do with my 2 and 3 year old is I promise to sleep on the floor next to them until they are asleep and then just leave quietly and they think your right next to them. It works most of the time but my husband comes home really late and wakes up the kids and the process starts again but my husband does this. But I will try to keep them up all day and not take a nap or sleep at all.
A grow clock is AMAZING! My brother (three) is always waking up at 5AM but now he is excited to go to bet to see the moon and he knows he is supposed to be sleeping until the sun comes up 💖

Lauren Blevins rewarding children in abundance isn't recommended as they may stop the desired action you prefer once the reward is discontinued. Use rewards with caution. There is also a book titled "Punished by rewards" that I encourage parents to read :)
Wow it's at the point where I have to actually drive my kids around town at 11 pm, until they fall asleep listening to frozen.
When I was little I used to start coughing and my mom would bring me to the bathroom and sit on a chair with me in her arms. She would turn on the shower until I stoped coughing. And sometimes it would be at like 2:00am but she sill did it. #MomsAreAwsome.
What a cutie pie;D!!

I don't want to start a fight but what are you going to do when your kids get older will you continue or just stop?
You can get clocks that show a moon from bedtime till morning then a sun from morning to bedtime. You might find that works.

Ford looks so happy at the end!
A grow clock is AMAZING! My brother (three) is always waking up at 5AM but now he is excited to go to bet to see the moon and he knows he is supposed to be sleeping until the sun comes up 💖
