This $30 Controller is A Hidden Gem - FlyDigi Direwolf

- Another story with cheap controller, but this time is on the better side. FlyDigi Direwolf is the second iteration of their newer generation of FlyDigi controller after FlyDigi Apex 3 which is their first one. It looks exactly like Xbox Series controller from the outside to their latest feature of Hall sensing trigger. Under the hood, there is more to it. At 30 bucks, something must be compromise. Can a budget controller satisfy wide variety of gaming community members? or it just another pile in the trash?

great review! everything is well detailed. thank you for the review, keep it going!
Great review ! I like how you focused a lot on the shape and were very precise with your comparisons with the Xbox controller. I think this is important as a lot of people like me are used to the Xbox controller and would like to see how they compare.
keep these reviews coming man, they are really good, well explained and structured
Thanks! 🤗
Nice review! Only one question, do you know how to turn off the controller while connected in wireless mode?
Isn’t it pressing the home button? Tho, it’s also can become pairing button when press too long. Confusing. You can switch it off by using the mode switch at behind.
Personally, i just left it because it turn off by itself without me realizing.
I just ordered this controller because it was the cheapest I could find. The Dpad on my BigBig Won Rainbow Lite broke in less than 4 months and it's impossible to find a replacement conductive rubber to use. Great video and a huge shout out to that double sided tape. I'm ripping it off after I unbox it.🤣
what controller would you recommend for Apex
Good review my friend. I only see people praising this controller. U are the first who actually did an unbiased analysis. I have a GameSir T4 wired for 2+years now and had no issue with it but the stick wear. I may end up getting another T4 Wireless this time after seeing this. The only issue to me is that this Flydigi is handsome.
hey so I just bought this for rocket league because I’ve been buying the power a controllers with the 2 back buttons and I never liked how they felt but I needed those back buttons for my powerslide and airoll in rocket league. I’ve always loved how my series controller feels but it doesn’t have any back buttons so I bought this because it looks like the series controller and it also has the back buttons! My only concern is the right bumper. I use right bumper for my boost so I’m always holding it. All my power a controllers have broken because of this but my series controller never breaks but I can’t use it since it doesn’t have the back buttons. How long will the bumpers last on this? Should I be worried
I don’t know how long it will last but the switch used is an average switch. But, it is replaceable since the switch type is the same as xbox controller. If it break, pls consider send it out for repair. It a lot easier to repair than any other controller.
great video, so much information. I like the review +1 subscribed
UA-camr I have a question I hope you answer!!
I looked through your gamepad latency benchmark videos and excel files and did you measure latency based on overclocking all the game pads?
and
If I overclocked the gamepad on my PC, does it apply to overclocked polling rate and latency if I connect the gamepad to my Nintendo switch and use it?
Yes, I measured latency in overclock and without overclock. On some controllers, I put in default setting result because it does make a different, but most of the time it just redundant data in my opinion.
Nope. Switch and most console will downclock controller to save battery. Also, to have a fair game environment.
Dualsense actually has longer battery life on console than on PC. I forgot the source, but there was time when Microsoft acknowledge player can have unfair advantage when using Xbox dongle. So, this is actually a known issue.
Hope that helps.
@@kaiserdostuff wow thx sir
may I ask your opinion, I'm still confused between flydigi direwolf, 8bitdo ultimate, and gulikitt kingkong 2 pro to just play genshin on ios. can you give me some recommendations on the pros and cons? Thank You.
Single player RPG like genshin, I think you want to consider durability and comfort. One of the features that I can't get away with in genshin is pressing the stick to select the menu which I just remap it to back button. That remove KingKong the Gorilla from the competition. At this point any 3rd party controller without extra button totally missed the mark when Direwolf is so cheap for its feature.
8BitDo in ios detected as switch pro, while direwolf and KingKong as xbox controller. Last time I tried genshin in ipad, the game support xbox and playstation but not switch pro. I don't know if they supported switch now.
Another advantage with controllers is UI in genshin is much cleaner and smaller too than touch mode.
A very detailed review, thanks! Too bad I'm not a fan of the bumper button short click as well
good review, here in Brazil there are only sponsored reviews I almost bought this one instead of a ps4 one thanks
Thanks for the review , tell me which sticks can be installed here to replace .I tried to overclock the polling frequency , nothing has changed (( maybe I 'm doing something wrong ?
Ermm, do you mean the joystick? Or the joystick cap? I changed my right to 60 degree type from same brand, increase a 3% of raw input. It’s a PS4 type joystick. For cap, you can go for xbox cap.
You can check my latest video about polling rate and created database file for all controller. A bit long video..
@@kaiserdostuff I meant 3d stick mechanism.I will definitely take a look )
@@useless8835 you can check my other video about joystick modding, i use this controller as one of the example.
What type of analog stick cover can I use? Can the ds4 cover fit?
Can
Have the fate collab one instead bc the normal one is out of stock, loving it, now it just need hall sticks and it will be perfect
Congratulations on the video. Too bad I only found the video after I bought it. I hope it lasts longer than 1 year or I just need to change the battery. After all, here in Brazil, 30$ is a lot of money. Gained 1 subscriber.
Thank you for the encouragement! 🤗
E ai mano, durou? comprei o meu tem pouco tempo e tambem vi o video depois de comprar, só que como se passaram 8 meses talvez alguma coisa tenha mudado, até porque comprei com garantia de 1 ano na Octoshop
Firme e forte, utilizando quase todo dia.@@iJobez
@@iJobez e ae mano, o que achou dele?

this controller is great if you play casually... competitive wise well is hard. I migth try the flydigi apex 3 if it has gyro on it for shooters of course but this one I don't know does it work?
This gyro is the same as apex 3.
@@kaiserdostuff oh the better but I guess the battery doesen't endure like say 3 days without charging right as far as I know the direwolf only last 20 hours.
@@rokchuntheholy6937 in my testing it just go 8 to 10 hours. Battery endurance tightly relate to polling rate.
@@kaiserdostufffor a guy who play 3hours per day it endure for 3 days
THX for your Video :)
Hello bro, what cap can I buy to protect my controller's joystick from tearing apart? Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
ControlFreak for DualSense is the best, but any silicone cap will do the job.
@@kaiserdostuff I have Direwolf
@@GabbyF it'll fit better with cap for DualSense.
Mine lights green light instead of white or blue. The trigger and stick is not working.
Any idea?
You might be on Android/Bluetooth mode.
@@kaiserdostuff nope, i was definitely on wireless mode. I also tried wired mode. No input at all from sticks and both triggers.
Frustrating af
@@user-gu1od2oy7b perhaps it was about dinput and XInput mode?
Wait, so if the controller wingle, it is normal?! I bought an Vader 3 Pro, at first it was not wingle at all. But after 2-3 days playing, it started to wingle all direction :v
The truth is it's normal because it exists almost in every joystick but just like drift, wiggle also something you don't want if you play at a very small or zero dead zone.
I think I'm probably the only select few people who are being picky about stuff like this.
Plus, once you realize it's there, you hate it.
incredible...amazing details...greatings from brazil
Glad you like it!
what's the highest input lag you had while using it with bluethoot ?
17 to 18ms at less 1% occurrence. B4 I update the firmware, it has more than 20ms.
Can we switch profile using any button on the controller? I cant find the way
You need to set up the profile in the software first. Then, press select + A,B,X or Y...
@@kaiserdostuff THX!!!
its been almost three months of using this controller and the delay on bluetooth connectivity is super annoying i can't play properly at all with it, i have no idea how to fix this and if theres no fw update that won't fix this issue i might as well buy a used ps4 controller
I don't think they will issue any fw update anymore. Increase latency after the update was such a bad move. OG controller from Sony still the fastest for budget range.
which one would you recommend, this controller or 8bitdo ultimate?
Ultimate lol .. if you can afford it. One $30 one $70.
The flydigi Vader 3 is coming out the trailer makes it look like the true ultimate controller 🤔
@@joshuwottdelta most likely more expensive than 8Bitdo Ultimate. I just wait they refresh apex, i just can't with vader layout.
Great! You do great reviews!
no drift issue on this one?
Between xbox series controller RM184 vs Flydigi Direwolf RM100, which one more worth it?
On PC? I go with Direwolf. The difference is on polling rate which i can’t tell a diff. But if you really want polling rate and willing to go 1st party, dualsense or ds4 is a better choice for PC.
@@kaiserdostuff I will mostly use on PC and Android through bluetooth. I much prefer xinput for compatibility. How's the bluetooth connectivity? is it stable?
@@malvin98 very stable. But I suggest don't upgrade the firmware. It reduce the polling rate which helps with battery life, but it's not a big issue tbh.
what is the polling rate on this controller and would you recommend it for fps games?
The polling rate got worse after fw update and no further update came. It’s decent for fps, but hardcore player will feel it.
I talk about polling rate on recent video, so do check that out.
@@kaiserdostuff is there any way to improve it somehow? the game i specifically use this for needs precise aiming
@@vacb nope, unless dev roll out update to fix those issue. Which they can but they don’t care especially on budget lineup. I don’t remember this controller performance on wired, but you have more options when you focus on wired. The best wireless right now is Xiaomi but it’s not a very good controller in the current market. FlyDigi vader or machenike G5 will come soon, but those above 50 bucks.
@@kaiserdostuffbtw is the 2.4 ghz dongle not compatible for android?
@@vacb never tested, but i presume no.
Do u recommmend to anyone for upgrading the battery? I planned to go 750mah
I think you should upgrade once the battery degraded after 1 2 years of usage. But, the upgrade is quite easy to do. I think you should do it when the time come.
@@kaiserdostuff I think my direwolf battery draining so fast unlike my vader 2 that was my main gamepad.. can survive almost a week or maybe 2..
@@RazDanny-qk7vtyou can try 1000 mAh since the size probably the same, just thicker.
Do you think this or the 8bit do ultimate wireless ?
Ultimate
@@kaiserdostuff Thank you ! should I get the bluetooth or the wireless 2.4 version ? I want to play at switch and pc.
@@juanvicentini6246 bluetooth. Since it support both.
my friend tell me what is better this gamepad or xbox series
Function = direwolf, polling rate = xbox.
Does it work with xbox? and does it have hall effect sensor?
Manual says only android and windows, no hall sensor joystick yet for Xbox
@@kaiserdostuff Ok thanks
This is such a detailed video, thanks for the information bro
is the controller good for 2d fighting games and tekken?
Nope. I think for fighting game, fightpad is a better choice. I'm also a trash when playing tekken.
What control freaks works with this controller?
You mean the thumbstick extension? It should be dualsense size. Maybe slightly tight, but should fit dualsense.
@@kaiserdostuff ok thx
3:25 - 3:51 how to turn it off?
it's so annoying pls help. i just bought the controller and just now found out about it 😭
You need to use their app to turn off vibration.
@@kaiserdostuff oh, thanks for that too. but I was talking about how to turn off the dualsense thing
@@kaiserdostuff pls help bro. It's really annoying 😔
@@Alt3r_ at the time of this video, that dualsense thing only available in FlyDigi Apex 3
@@kaiserdostuff oh, okay
i hate the macro buttons... i never use them and always pressed them accidentally
Why I didnt meet you video firts before I buy, somehow I agree wit h you, whenever I ready with playing game, then the controller wont have battery. So I try to used it wired but fail, for me
Maybe you forgot to switch to wired/bluetooth mode? 2.4g is another mode.
@@kaiserdostuff yeah something I miss from the manual, now I managed to play using wired
Wow! What a review!!
To conserve joysticks would the use of grips help?
Yup. It has DS4 size.
Is this better than apex 2 & 3 ?
Apex 3 better at least on feature however i cannot comment on polling rate. Apex 2 can skip coz older style dpad.
Abang ada recommendation tak controller yang boleh tahan lama harga bawah rm150
8BitDo Pro 2 or this. Both equally good. Still has wear and tear on different issue tho. 8BitDo has conductive rubber wear and FlyDigi can lost tactile on micro switch. Both still use normal joystick too.
U can get 2nd hand ps4 controller too if you use PC or older xbox one s. Both has better latency.
@@kaiserdostuff thank you bro,i will support you from now on
Dia punya analog precise x mcm xbox punya? Utk main FIFA
Precise.. joystick yg sama dgn ps5.
8bitdo ultimate or flydigi direwolf?
Ultimate lol if you can afford double the price.
you really need try the thunderobot g70... is very good
G70 probably has better design choice than other Thunderobot controller but the cheapest I found is 80 bucks which put it side by side with Flydigi Apex 3 and xiaomi. They need to entice me with something more with that price.
@@kaiserdostuff the better thing in the tunderbolt is the options of turbo and the place of buttons of mapping .. and to play competitive is better... to casual play and experience of single player , apex 3 is best
@@darkavera i agree with that. Their button placement is better than apex.
Can we replace the thumbstick?

Both are fine. But I don't know the trigger type of gamesir.
@@kaiserdostuff Does direwolf triggers are good? I mean for racing games that u can control the throttle/pedal gas..
@@razmanrhoads2078 you can adjust sensitivity curve with direwolf. The trigger is similar to the Xbox trigger type.

How to play genshin with direwolf on android?
Genshin doesn't support controller on android. You need remapper to emulate touch screen.
So this is better than mechenike?
Which machenike? HG510 is a poorly build controller. Their latest G6 is much better.
mechanical micro switch have weakness on keep long pressing, heavy pressing and rapidly pressing. pretty much stupid thing they did to kill their own controller. unless they moved to use optical switch
There already a game controller with optical switch. You will feel the same things.
