    Going back and watching some of Kirby's earlier content is a mind blowing experience. Presentation is so much more polished now as the channel has grown.

    Beautiful umbrellas, no doubt but why not a video about the British Fox umbrellas? They are great too!

      I have one that is very old, probably from the early 1900s. It has a silk canopy, but it's tattered, and I don't know anywhere (in North America) that can make a replacement (I would get polyester instead of the silk.) It has a beautiful carved handle, a lorikeet.

      Entry-level handmade Italian umbrella. Clearly in the same league as what one is sold outside of the subway station.

      @@metza4261 Some people don't understand that buying mass produced shit that you have to throw away in a few years is part of the problem with our world. When you buy something, buy something that is handmade with quality that might even outlast yourself. When I hear entry level umbrella, even if it sounds corny, I hear something that you might have to replace, but not the same crap that will not even last one hard wind.

      @@metza4261 the problem with your statement is that you jump to the conclusion that these are won't break. You only get a life time if you are extremely careful. I have my great grandfather's umbrella, probably 50 years old and it is just a normal $30-40 umbrella. But guess what I'm extremely careful.

    Is there a 'good'/acceptable way to bring a dripping wet MF umbrella into an establishment? Burberry provides a plastic sheath to clients as they come in, which is perfect; LV doesn't; and Hermes SAs (nicely) direct wet umbrellas to a designated, common-area location by the door. Is there a way to say/indicate, with finesse, that I don't want to leave my EUR250 umbrella by the door? How do you handle such a situation? Thanks.

    Just a question: on 2:23 you have named the wood of handle “broom wood”. And on 6:15 you are taking the same umbrella and calling the type of wood “Congo wood”. So what type of wood this umbrella’s handle really has? Because by the type of handle’s conection to the umbrella and by the shape of the handle it looks more like “Broom wood”, or more precisely - “Gorse wood”.

    • @varun009
      @varun009 2 роки тому +1

      It's definitely gorse, think he didn't do enough research. For anyone who doesn't know, "Congo" isn't a wood from the Congo but instead a method of pruning where one "pinches" (cuts a vertical slit, or excises some amount in the same direction) a sapling about a year prior to harvest for chestnut and it varies for other species. Acacia robusta can take 6 months whereas acacia nilotica can take 2 years to heal from these pinches.

    • @fit4xlife
      @fit4xlife 2 роки тому

      @@varun009 Francesco Maglia wrote to me that a long time ago they really did get a woods from the Congo for their umbrellas. But currently they only get chestnuts processed as you wrote above.

      @@fit4xlife it's all the same to me. I make my own umbrella handles from local Indian woods. I like fancying up some mid range umbrellas and giving them as gifts, but my brother is quite contemptuous of Indian made things even though he knows it can take 2 years to make 1.

    Damn. That was a lot of bad luck in just one video.? What does Rolls Royce use in their cars? Secindly, have you ever heard of impingo wood. I believe that is how it is pronounced? It is a dark coloured wood from Africa. I believed used in making Claronets? I saw that wood in a show as a kid twenty yesrs ago. And have always remembered it.

    Some points:
    1. Never open an umbrella indoors. It's bad luck.
    2. That Italian guy never saw the most revolutionary idea in umbrellas: Automatic self opening umbrellas. Push a button, Umbrella opens up!
    3. Thanks for not using the word "parasol". That is too high falutin.
