- I'm no coffee nerd. I just enjoy a great cup of coffee without having to turn it into a full blown science experiment.
Simple steps to making great pour-over coffee:
1. Boil water in long spout kettle
2. Grind beans to number of cups desired
3. Pre-soak filter and dump out water
4. Pour in coffee grounds
5. Pour in hot water - bloom phase
6. Continue brewing until coffee reaches bottom of wood collar

I love that you turn down the music volume while you're talking so we can hear you... but, I like the tunes when no talk. You rock!
Thank you for showing people that good pour over coffee can be make without "an Engineering degree". I've been making pour over coffee for decades (since back in the 80s), long before it became trendy. I had a Melitta portable coffee dripper that I used for both home and camping. I also had a Melitta manual coffee maker that had a large cone dripper and a glass coffee pot. The coffee was always good using this method and you could make in anywhere that you could boil water, even out in the middle of nowhere. Like you said, there's no need for it to be a science experiment!
that's awesome! I still love a great pour over - the non-scientific way!
Thank you for emphasizing support for our locals. This is so important to keep our community functioning! Appreciate your video as I am still perfecting my pour-over coffee brewing methods!
HAPPY TO HEAR THAT! Gotta always support our local peeps!
OMG can we talk about this quality and editing!! I thought you were Peter Mckennon
TheBritFix ahhhhh thank you so much 🙏🏼 you’re the best!!!
Yes. Totally agree.
No man buns, thank you for saying that!! 😁😁
Really enjoyed this tutorial, the simplicity, and filming style. Keep it up!!
Really appreciate that!! Love your guys’ channel too!
This is an awesome video. Super simple to follow. I now have my own pour over style coffee setup and I love it. Just had my first go at it about 15 minutes ago. It actually turned out great! Thanks!
Best Dear 💗❤🎉
Loved how simple this video was
So glad I could help!
I liked it when the bottom of the filter got submerged by coffee... yum!
don't knock it till you try it
Wow! Such a well made video! 👍
Finally. Someone that knows how to overhead film as well as explain for some of us clueless guys that need to know Exactly what we are seeing. I’m fed up of people demonstrating and taking the time to put on UA-cam. Yet do a poor job. Well done Mr. thank you.
❤
Great video! Really simple but still explained all the important stuff. Also real good editing!
Hey thanks a bunch! Glad you enjoyed :)
hell yeah I'm digging this channel lol This is the way things should be explained.. straight to the point.
Beauty video, totally thought you were a huge UA-camr! Keep up the killer videos :)
Really appreciate that Nicki!! I'm trying to be a huge UA-camr! - just gotta keep making content!
Thank you for this great tutorial... pour over coffee for dummies! I love it!
You are so welcome!
Thank you so much for this. I have the same thing you have in this video and I didn't know how to use is. This will be good for my iced coffees!.
Glad it was helpful! Amazing for iced coffee!
Do those fancy filters matter at all? All i have are regular mr coffee drip filters
I always liked my mom's method of saving the discarded water from soaking the paper filter. She lets the water cool off and then waters a plant with it.
What’s the beat at the beginning called? Great vid by the way
Nicely done!
Thanks!
I wanted to get into coffee as a new hobby, after an amazing cup at a restaurant. I was starting to feel the learning curve was way too steep, and I have little time as a student/working part time… but this came along! I made my first cup today and it was pretty rad- so thank you!!
Don't be intimidated by all of the people out there who make it sound like you need an engineering degree to make good coffee. It's really not rocket science. As you discovered, you can make yourself a really good cup of coffee this way by just using a little, old-fashioned common sense! Make changes that YOU like. All of those videos that tell you how much coffee to use, what grind to use, etc. and that you HAVE to follow their recipe are just looking for followers and reviews. What makes a good cup of coffee is adjusted to YOUR taste. YOU be the judge. You're the one drinking it.
ok this is what I have been doing at home and my coffee is amazing! I watch other videos and people get too extra with everything! Just wanted to make sure I am doing it right I mean I must be because my coffee is delicious! Btw great video and nice hands! I prefer to drink my coffee out of glass compared to mugs. I swear it tastes better out of glass!
Too extra for you maybe. Lots of people enjoy getting the details right with coffee. Coffee is a pretty complex drink
DUDE!! Thank you for this video. I got tired of hipsters explaining the hario and assuming that we have scales and fancy grinders (although you even have a fancier grinder than me too). Great video overall.
ha! thank you, glad you enjoyed! gotta keep things simple
The best video, i hate the taste of the mashines and expensive ones are good but expensive.
Confused barista screaming
I want Mine already ground :)
Beautiful video 😊😊❤
Thank you! Cheers!
THANK YOU! every video is either a 30 minute video explaining what not to do or not using a whole meth set
haha, agreed. glad it helped you!
Great video! I’m Japanese so I support Hario and use V60. But I do use Chemex filters when I want a clean cup. I call my Hario filter cups ‘dirty’ coffee! I love it!
whatever floats your boat missy
You really shouldn't be filling that 3-cup Chemex up past the bottom of the filter.
Yup
Hey, do I go to your house and tell you how to make your damn coffee? Its all about what you like! Its so funny to me how if your off on your bloom time or pour it somehow makes a subpar cup of Joe. I understand you get off flavors if temp is off but there are so many ways to pour over that timing and your god damn swirl pattern aren't gonna make a damn difference. So just enjoy the coffee, the video and relax because the only thing about coffee you should be critical about is the beans and method you like!
@@christopherjuarez7039 You're wrong on a lot of what you said. Hone your palate and learn to make better coffee.

@@bluemystic7501 Studies disagree with you. Law of diminishing returns. Study after study have shown that these micro-details people obsess on are undetectable. It is purely placebo.
Great angles, great flow, great science, Well done.
It is National Coffee Day EVERYDAY! Well for me it is.
heard that!
Nicely done. Cheers~
Thank you! Cheers!
❤
This video is fantastic! I dont have the chemex but I do have a glass that's basically the same shape and size. I also dont have a scale lol
But I've tried it a few times and it was good but I want to get better at it (i guess I was making it too weak before)
Music?
10/10.
YO THANKS TROY!
This may be a stupid question, but do you need to use coffee beans and grind them up? or can you just use pre ground coffee you'd use in a standard coffee machine?
You can certainly use pre-ground coffee! I've done it before. Grinding the whole beans fresh and a little more coarse than pre-ground leads to a fresher more flavorful cup! Enjoy :)
@@NickAndersonCreative Hmmm...
Is Pre-Ground Pour Over still better than Dripper Style ?
Agreed.... Simple and easiest way.... No need for fancy schmancy hardware..... Just make it and enjoy the coffee it while its hot....
Nothing wrong with fancy equipment though
❤
I don't have anything around my wrists. Will this method still work for me?
idkkkkk give it a try.
Finally a review for normal people. Who the f has time for weighting coffee in the morning. Just give me coffee. Thank you sir, you legend.
dm m really appreciate that man! Shouldn’t be that difficult!!
Use a nespresso 😂
@@NickAndersonCreative
So what is the water to coffee ratio per cup? I ordered an Agogo 10 cup pour over from Amazon. And I need to make SIX (6 oz) cups at a time. Everyone in the fam wants a cup. I am switching from French Press to Pour over.☺️
You really can make better coffee with a scale though and it’s not that hard. I use a scale every morning and it’s not hard. I enjoy the process.
@@BriarRoseAExactly, you need a scale
Since when was there a whole community that was centered around making coffee. I had no idea there was so many different ways to make coffee and so much that goes into it
It’s been like that for a while. A lot of people just don’t realise how complex coffee is.
Good morning sir and welcome to the community 😂
@@mohammedalharthi9978 Yeah its too late for me i already bought a french press and hand carved a scoop for my coffee
this is great! Also, does anyone else freak out when there's no bubbles at the blooming stage or is it just me? lol
Hi angiemon. If there's no bubble it tells you one thing and one thing only: there's not much CO2 left in the ground at the end of your blooming. So maybe you're brewing with very light roast and there's not much CO2 to begin with, or your beans have been sitting there for awhile and it has degassed naturally, or you've done a fantastic job during the bloom and completely wetted all the beans within the first pour. It could be because of one of the three reasons above.
"no scale required" as you use an automatic grinder that measures it for you lol. good video tho
you’re gonna blow up one day, i’m calling it
Michael Schneider I appreciate that man!! I hope so!
No man-buns! LOL
“No man bun required” LMAO
What's the measurements? Thank you
Apparently you don’t need measurements
Nice 🎉
Great BigBrother.... Nice Video... And useful too... Brother u make great video .. Some days before I was dissatisfied as my channel did not get more subscribes but after watching your video I get confidents .. You are way way way way more better than me and some of the you tubers who make rubbish videos and gets Lakhs of subscribers ....
I just subscribe to your channel.. Please make more video on Indoor video ideas if possible......
Finally!, a brew without a bun! LOL!
You make me want to cut off my man bun… jk never had one. Side note, Dark Matter Coffee is also a superb Coffee that is out of Chicago. Highly suggest A Love Supreme from their line of coffees.
I've had Dark Matter before! We used to live pretty close to them. So good
Guys measuring out your coffee and water isn't hard - be brave.
Didn’t realize you can fill up all the way to the wooden thing, over the filter
You’re technically not supposed to but I guess I did it anyways!
Technically your kettle is not boiling
❤
I used my blender 😭
I would say that 99% of coffee grinders with "cup settings" are not right to use for a Chemex.
A "typical" coffee measure is for a 6 oz cup. But for a Chemex carafe its a 5 oz cup. Unless you have played around with that grinder to find the proper setting for whatever size Chemex carafe being used, its wrong.
I personally weight both the beans (40 g) and water (740 g)for a 5 cup Chemex Carafe.
Thanks for all the info, definitely confused me a little bit. I just want good coffee without having to weigh everything out and I think I can get pretty close!
Another confused barista absolutely terrified by this tutorial
Josh Carroll where did I get it wrong?
❤
Why would it require a man bun
Cause it’s not French press.
@@waluigihentailover6926 why would someone use a French press have a man bun
@@TexasNationalist1836 I don’t know either. I guess it’s the stereotype.
Seeing people use scales, stop watches, and mathematical charts to brew a cup of coffee is so pretentious. Lol, sure, you can brew a slightly better cup of coffee that way. You can also use basics to brew an okay cup of coffee that's fine without scales and charts, lol. (Unless you completely botch the pour and grind ratio), it will be good enough for me ☕️
couldn't agree more!
A set of digital scales only costs like £10 and will make your brews much more consistent. And I’ve hardly met any coffee people who have man buns
Few want to bother with scales if you can make a decent coffee without them and the man-buns vary by country and region 👍
i'll never understand the urge to talk and create content about a topic you obviously have no clue of :D
Best Dear ❤
Can't stand the music. Bye.
Later gator!
