Want to learn how to keep your very own African Cichlids? It's not as hard as you think, let me teach you 😊
👉 kavemanaquatics.com/keeping-african-cichlids/
Heya I hope you don't mind me asking but I'm about to get my first set up and would really like to keep cichlids, you seem to know what you're talking about, there is a company selling 10 mawalis for 95 , I'm assuming if they shouldn't really go together then they shouldn't really be a bundle , but here are the fish.... Red peacock
Blue dolphin
Marble peacock x 2
Strawberry peacock
Redfin
Yellow peacock
Nyereri
Firefish
Electric blue
Do you think they will be OK? And thank you 😊
@@christinebrookes4586 sounds like a great group. If you’re just getting into African cichlids there’s a lot to learn. Start out by watching my free webinar training 😊 You can find it here kavemanaquatics.com/African-cichlids-course
@@KaveManAquatics thank you so much! I've only ever had a tiny 57l tank with wee tropicals like guppies etc, but just brought a 400l , my mom had cichlids when I was a wee un and they're beautiful so I'd love to get them all set up, I'll definitely watch the videos they'll probably do wonders for me , thanks again 😊
Sorry do you mind me asking one thing, I've brought crushed coral filter media to sort the pH levels , will that me enough or should I get a specific substrate too
Are these your fish? They're so beautiful. How do you keep your tank and water so clean? -Sophia
I’ve been a fish keeper most of my life. I just got into cichlids. I have a 75 gallon hap and peacock tank. I’ve learned so much from your videos new and old. Thanks for the information! You rock!
Thank you! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
This is the best African Cichlid instructional video I have viewed on UA-cam. Thank you!
Thanks bro, I appreciate that! Glad you found it helpful 😊
I've kept Malawi Cichlids for many decades and what I've just watched was one of the most beneficial and informative videos to date. Thank you.
Wow, Love to hear positive feedback from the veterans of the hobby!! Thank you! 😊
Well here I am...Went from a 10 Gallon tank with guppies. Watched 2 of your videos...Now I have two 55gs and 75g. My Cichlids are doing great! The beginning was stressful because my fish had parasites. I noticed bloat and string poop, immediately treated them with metroplex and the garlic guard stuff you recommended in the last video I watched. My fish are doing AMAZING! THANK YOU!!!! I'm using one of my 55's as a quarantine tank currently. Forever Subscribed. Thanks Kev
Thats an awesome transition! So glad I could help get you into African Cichlids!! 😊💪
Great tips. Long time fish keeper, but I just started with African Cichlids 6-8 months ago. So challenging but also so rewarding. I'm still working on getting my water parameters right. This video is full of fantastic info. Thanks KaveMan!
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁
By far the best video we have seen since starting. This journey !
Thank you! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
This is the most informative video I watched today . Thank you.
Glad it was helpful! 😊

@@farlz99 Thanks bro 😊

Great video! one of the best videos I've seen!! I kept cichlids years ago before I ever had access to something like UA-cam!! I wish I knew then what I know now... I left the hobby for about 15 years and have just come back to it. I love this incredible community and enjoying learning!! Right now I've been doing planted tanks but the next tank I do is going to be one like this!! Some of the most beautiful fish in the world!!
I've been wanting to get back into cichlids again so this really inspires me! Thanks for sharing Kev! I hope you're having a very blessed day! 🙏🌿🐟🌿💚
That's awesome, so glad I could inspire you to get back into cichlids! Welcome back to the hobby! We missed you! 😊
I started a Cichlid tank a few months ago. I've been stocking it slowly ever since, only adding about 3 at any one time. I think I have about 15 right now. I did have one death when I added 3 to a tank one time. I appreciate the tips given here. I am mixing all 3 types and they seem to be doing well together. I feed with 3 different types of food.
Glad its working out for you! Thanks for sharing 😊
Did you start with just three?
Kev, your " PRIMERS " are in a word " FANTASTIC!" Keep'em coming. 🙂
The best video about cichlids ever
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
I recently started investing in Cichlids/tanks/and everything that goes with it. Spent A Lot Of Money doing so! I found your channel VERY HELPFUL! Thank you! I subscribed! I will continue to follow!
Thank you bro! Glad you're finding the channel helpful! 😁💪
Very informative. Wish the people at my fish store knew 1/3 as much as you
lol Thanks bro, Glad it was helpful! 😊
Oh my gosh the last tip is legit what I'm going through rn ,I have an aggressive mbuna in the quarantine tank because he was attacking everyone and killed the other smaller mbuna In the bag I brought home with him, thanks so much kev you've been a real life saver for the past week for me,currently have 2 parrots 2mbuna and 3 peacocks and planning to introduce 1 more parrot and 2 more peacocks!
Thanks bro, Glad I could help! Be careful with those mbuna!
GREAT VIDEOS!. simple, well explained! TY again! Keep em coming!
Thanks, will do!
Thank you for making the vids that you make. You're the ONLY UA-camr I've seen. That doesn't fill their vids with fluff and bullshit. You're right to the point and I love that. Thanks again bro!
My pleasure Jason! I try to get you guys the info you need right away 😁 Glad you're enjoying the channel!
Man, you are giving me some serious new knowledge and I didn't get into the hobby yesterday!
🤣🤣 Glad I Can help! Beauty of this hobby is that we all keep learning everyday 😊
So I was asked to fish sit an African Cichlid for a week. I took the liberty of naming him Paco (lol). When my friends came back they realized I had grown attached and they gave him to me. I thought he was lonely and need friends... So I was given 3 more. Needless to say... Paco is a player and I now have 15 African Cichlids 🤦🏻♀️ and no idea what I’m doing. All in 2 months!! Your videos are helping so much. Thank you!!

Beautiful video thank you so much for the information! :)
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great content. What I loved the most was seeing the pink parrot swimming around with no care in the world amongst those aggressive fish.....and they all left him alone!!!
Thank you bro, Yes Gordo does his own thing, he's his own boss lol
Great video! Super informative. I'm getting back into the hobby after a 15 year hiatus and plan on sticking with all African Cichlids. I can see a lot has changed for the better. I've been watching as many of your video's as I can to get up to date with the times. One of the major questions i have is what filter to use? I saw one of your videos where you talk about cleaning and set up of the Fluval 407. I was debating between this and the Fluval FX4. Again, the tank size will be 75 gallons. Any thoughts as to which one would be more appropriate for Cichlids and this tank size? Thanks!
On my 75 I had an FX6 and a 407 running. This is because my tank was overstocked, by design. You may not overstock at first but you'll eventually see the benefits of doing so. natural progression for new African Cichlid owners. So I would definitely at least start with an FX6 so you dont waste money on a smaller filter you'll need to upgrade very soon.
btw, I have an entire course on keeping African Cichlids, but I suggest you start with my Free Webinar training first - event.webinarjam.com/channel/KaveMan-Aquatics
@@KaveManAquatics Wow, thank you! I'm glad I asked.
@@KaveManAquatics is the tank in this video 75 Gallons?? I have a 65 Gallon and am trying to gauge how many to put in. I notice you said you had 30 that would give me a real accurate impression of how many to put in my tank.
Fired Up Video!!! Good tips, so far been good. Bought 12 Mbuna at PetsMart Black Friday Sale, Of course quarantined. Re setup my 55 gallon with 19 comet goldfish to establish the bio filter and nitrogen cycle, now their out in the aquaponics system. Hoping, starting off my Mbuna together at young ages, lessen the aggression. Thanks for this video, adding to favs
Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Hey my friend nice tank you have great to see you thanks for sharing love you God bless you stay safe stay happy and stay blessed nice

wowow super nice tanks of cichlids :D "D
Thank you!! 😊
excellent video !!! Excellent narration !! excellent to the point and crisp explanation !! full of information which makes sense !!! Thanks Kaveman !!! Actually I am having little trouble - I am already having fishes( 1pc- Severum- 5.5", 1pc OB - 3", 2 pcs - Firemouth(Pair) - 3.2" , 1 pc - Electric Blue Hap - 3" , 1pc - Red Shoulder - 2.8", 1 pc - Yellow Lab - 1.5" , 1 pc - Venustus - 3" ,1pc - Albino rainbow shark - 3" total 10/11 fishes already there in the 54 gallon /3.5'x1.5'x1.5' long tank )............................. NOW on 22- Jan-2022 added lot other fishes which I was very much interested to keep ( 1pc - Dragon Blood - 6" , 1 pc - Taiwan Reef 5", 1 pc - Sulphur Head 5", 1pc - Blue Dolphin 5" , 2 pcs - female Blue Dolphin 4.5", 1pc - Lwanda - 4" , 1 pc - Red Cap Itungi - 3" , 1 pc - Sunshine Benga - 4" , 1 pc - Ruby Red , 1 pc - German Red , 2 pcs - Polar parrot(pair) 3.5" ) ................... now total i have 22 fishes in my tank ... yes I know it is over stocked almost 50% more than the tank capacity ..... but I did it deliberately to mitigate the aggression ................. now the after that the observation is the Severum which used to be the tank boss ... was super aggressive and chased almost all the fishes specially the DRAGONBLOOD !!! .. and i can see the Dragon blood is almost hiding in the scape / cave all the time now ... the Severum is also chasing 4 other fishes along with Dragn blood, e.g. Sunshine , ruby red , german red , pollar parrots !!! now after 4 days I can see the chasing has reduced drastically by the Severum and as I can see the only target of Severum is DRAGONBLOOD ....... so my questin is is it stabilizing ? is it normal phenomenon? is it stabilizing gradually ? question to Kaveman & all other experts ... Thanks a lot in advance from India !
You have a very strange mix of fish that are not usually kept together. I am surprised you dont have more problems. Aggression will always be in your tank because of the species mix. You have fish that require different diets too. Severums are usually very calm fish so it sounds strange that hes the bully in your tank. Good luck with your tank bud. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful!
Where do you get your fake rock decorations?
Very concise & informative video on African cichlids..over stocking your tank so that the “fish can’t keep track of who they don’t like”..lol

Hey, awesome video man, keep up the great work !
Thanks bro! 😊
Honestly your tank and your detail to info is the reason why I want a african cichlid tank
That’s awesome! Glad I could inspire 😊
Don't be afraid to get rid of certain ones if you make a stocking mistake. Took me a while to learn that one. When I first started I had a Jaguar that got big and would kill any new fish I added. If it fit in his mouth, it was gone. Then once I ended up with a breeding pair of convicts... Came in one day and there was a black cloud of convict babies, and the 2 had every fish in the tank pushed to the other end lol About 80 in a 200 gal... Convicts ain't no joke when they breed lol I really miss all my tanks. I had about 10 tanks at one time not including breeding tanks. When I figured out how to strip the females and make my own egg bubblers, I had probably 20 grow out tanks too. One of these days I'll get back into it.
We'll be here ready for you to rejoin us! Thanks for the tips!

I always took the aggressive fish out… rearranging on tank.. and put him back in the next day and never had problems.. I also kept females and males together.. I had a beautiful rock scape so when they had babies.. and yes they had MANY babies.. the little ones could hide…also never had problems with aggression.. it was a pretty big tank also.. 120 gallon.. but you have some amazing fish.. my son who is 14 and has autism loves fish so we are talking about getting another tank and starting..

Very informative. I have a 250G Mbuna (all male) tank with reef tank set up with overflow and massive sump with UV, GFO, carbon, ATS, and two large bio towers. I also run Reef lighting over it (Kessil A360Xs) to bring out fish color and shimmer in tank. I run them in a narrow illumination period to restrict algae. My stocking is very heavy, probably 100 Mbunas.
That sounds like an awesome setup! 💪💪

I have two dwarf (birth defect) chichlids in a 1.5 gal. They’re bestfriends and follow eachother like shadows. 0 aggression, 0 territorial behavior. They even snuggle up under a moss ball together. They always rush to greet me at the front of the tank too, I absolutely adore them!!! 🤩 (their names are pickle and carrot, they’re dark green / turquoise and orange, hehe!)
That's awesome, love their names too! 😊
Good vid. I want a cichlid tank like that. Humbly, I hope this helps if no one commented....* "Fish" is only plural when all the fish u refer to are the same. Use "fishes" for referring to a group that contains multiple types of fish.
