- Mountain running in Ireland, this time up Croagh Patrick (The Reek) on The Wild Atlantic Way, west of Ireland in County Mayo near the town of Westport.
Over 25,000 people climb Croagh Patrick, on Reek Sunday, the last Sunday in July in honour of Saint Patrick who is said to have spent 40 days fasting on the mountain in 441 AD.

That was amazing. I’ve been at the foot of this mountain but never walked up it - don’t think my knees would let me. Awesome seeing the church at the top. To think that some people walk up that mountain barefoot.

Was up there or half way up a few years ago and some headbanger ran up past us. He ran back down again and then, I couldn't believe it, ran past us again before we reached the top! Think he was the T-1000. Anyway, stunning views of clew bay up there. But treacherous walking never mind the running business. Keep er lit!

Before second breakfast that is 😂 Lots of more serious hikers and walkers here use poles, I've got a pair myself. But definitely not as high a proportion as you would see elsewhere. Although that's very much seen as a tourist mountain, with most people I saw climbing were just in ordinary sneakers. I don't use poles very often as I like to have my hands free for cameras.

Was the middle of summer but I started out at 6am. Was loads of people when I was coming back down and carpark packed later in the day

On this occasion, nothing, wore the headphones around my neck the entire time and totally forgot about them. Listen to a very eclectic mix, everything from SynthWave to Heavy Metal.
Climbed this in my 20s with 20kg kit up and down in 1 hour 40 minutes

I'm originally from the area but live overseas now. I thought Slemish "mountain" could be a good one for one of your challenges (particularly liked the Lurig/crisp challenge).👍😂

Haha yeah I did have a kind of challenge in mind for Slemish. A few years ago I was fit enough to be able to get to the top from the car park in under 10mins. Thought “climbing a mountain in 10mins” might make a good video title. But I can’t do it currently 😂

i didn't see you doing much running.
In mountain running the ascents are often a mix of running and fast hiking. If terrain is loose underfoot I also tend to slow down if I’m talking to camera. Snapped 2 ligaments in the past, trying to vlog on run at same time

There goes my last excuse not to hike...you're asthmatic? i'm still on a Symbicort diet and the occasional puff when the weather goes wonky. Oh well, time to get back to a thrice weekly run schedule...
I have mild exercise induced asthma, you'd be surprised how many people have it. I hadn't realised for years, only got diagnosed two years ago. Mine is always worse on mountain runs. Get back to that training! 😁
