Coming from a mini SE, I love it. I got it to take videos of my kids or use it as a "scout" to find schools of fish in creeks instead of me going in to each individual creek (wasting time) when fishing in my kayak. Im not out here doing professional videos. So for what I need/use it for...its perfect
Why wouldn't you be? Flip is for people that dont have a drone and dont want to spend more money, you would be stupid if you bought a flip if you already have a m4p
I bought my mini 4 pro a year ago- my first ever drone. I was so scared to fly it at first but now that I’m a year in, I’m amazed at all the places I’ve flown in and how that small little drone has performed! I’ve flown it in pretty high winds here in bermuda and got the most stable smooth footage of some beaches. I’ve flown in the Philippines, Bali, and San Francisco and that small little drone has punched far above its weight class.
@@aaronmedeiros9088 how would you get a quick shot like rocket or circle of yourself without holding the remote using the M4P. With the flip you can easily get a shot like that. Just asking cause Ive watched like a hundred videos and trying to decide between m4p and the flip.
I contacted DJI about getting the Flip as a "Drone only" package considering I already have the RC2 for my Air 3. Their reply was at this point there was no plan to sell the Flip as a Drone only, or "Drone only with extra batteries package". With that said, looks like at least for me, I'll be holding off out of hopes that changes at some point in the future.
I have sold my Neo and bought the Flip. Did a few testflights using the RC2 screen controller. Awesome experience. I also have the Mini 4 Pro and Air 3, the last one for flying in stronger winds and more professional work. The Mini 4 Pro for cinematic video's in general as my to go drone and the Flip for indoor flying, tracking and backup for the Mini 4 Pro. Also just for fun flying. The camera of the Flip is much better compared to the Neo and on par with the Mini 4 Pro, also in low light. Tomorrow I will post my first cinematic Flip video on my YT channel. The Flip performed so much better than expected! So stay tuned😀Just my personal opinion. Greetings from 🇳🇱
Yup, Flip is an upgrade from the Neo and more versatile than the Mini 4 Pro. Firmware updates will just make it even better too. I also plan to use the Flip handheld like a Pocket camera for unique angles and tight spaces shots. My style is run and gun, and I go on solo hikes and I do bike around. So the Flip suit my needs while getting excellent picture quality. I like the size of the Neo but I don’t like the short battery life, flyaways and bad image quality. And I don’t want to spend too much money for a Mini 4 Pro, limited to being stuck using a bulky controller, and even if it had more sensors it doesn’t mean it’s crash proof. The Flip has the same camera of the Mini 4 Pro and Autonomous features of the Neo. It’s just right for me. Thanks for the vid.
I got it and I love it. it is perfect for a vloger content creator on the go. the other day got it with on my daily run. I could pull it and track me without my watch telling me I need to speed up.
It’s the same camera and sensor. Flip just doesn’t do vertical shooting natively. But vertical footage doesn’t need to be 4K since it’s for social media.
i love my flip...i can carry it freely along side my dslr and a couple of lens, without being bulky and heavy...its def like marmite...love it or hate it...great video as usual
I send it back after testing. I was thinking selling my hoverair pro max for the flip because of the longer battery life and better camera. But after testing i found my hoverair was better in most things. Much better tracking, no issue when there is fog, larger field of view, the beacon,… I really hoped that dji had made the perfect drone for my runs, but i had more issues what so ever then with my hoverair. The only thing i liked more was that with the controller i could leave my air 3s at home for making arial shots when i was at a location and the better dynamic range and longer battery life. Maybe it will improve or we see an updated version someday
For the money, I'd buy the DJI Mini 4k in a heartbeat over the Flip. You can get much farther than Wi-Fi range, can get those feather touches that are usually needed for cinematic shots, and don't have to worry about the slightest breath of wind knocking it out of the sky.
It's the same as with Neo - people complaining... You're right. For this price, even with RC-N3, you get same flight time and camera quality for half the price of Mini 4 Pro, the absolute best so far in this category. That's amazing! It's the best beginner all-in-one package so far, of course with a lot of compromises but with the right priority (camera). If they sell it as drone only, I'd for sure get it. Maybe some companies will offer stealthier props to make it less noisy. My main complain is, that the button only modes are that limited. Why no second button or double tab to cycle through ranges and heights? Why 10m limit? Why in fact the same old (boring) Quickshots modes we know for years? I mean this is only software. Hardware is capable of so much more. Where is your creativity DJI? Any video using the same type of shots again and again will look kind of boring, at least could've looked better with more options
The flip is simply unique in that you can fly it without that damn controller and that it allows to film you from the front and record what you say. No other drone I'm aware of can do that. This is huge.
I thought it was a great bit of kit, especially if used for what it is intended - vlogging and solo content creation. The increased price over the Neo is justified with the camera upgrade (I found NEO quite annoying), but the wind resistance IS terrible - I took it out a few times in very light wind and it couldn't cope, maybe mine was dodgy? For me personally though it didn't "fit". Those looking for a proper sub 250g drone should definitely go M4P - I don't understand these videos hating on the FLIP. The two drones aren't meant to be comparisons. Plus I liked the design. However I did send mine back - I am predominantly a drone photographer and it just wasn't something I would reach for over the mini. A great bit of kit nonetheless.
4:42 I see that you had a "Gimbal Motor Overloaded" error. I had the same with my flip. We're you able to fix that? Is this a normal thing for drones? I'm a 1st time drone flyer and the flip is my 1st drone.
I have bought the Flip as an upgrade from a Hover X1 which I used for bushwalking (and which broke). I think it represents far better value than the HoverX1 Pro; much more versitile, and offers me the chance to fully fly a drone rather than just rely on quick shots. Having said that, the Flip's ability to do quick shots is still really important to me. So far, my only gripe is the closeness of the drone during Follow mode. I've tried voice control to increase the distance ("Farther") but can't see that the verbal instruction actually makes any difference. I hope they fix that. I agree with you that being able to alter camera exposure settings on the phone would be a great improvement. BTW, Got your LUTs too - they look good!
I've bought neo and i hear you with how neo picture quality is not great.. it is still much faster to start and less probably to damage gimbal. Know the limitations and all will be usable. I would not give flip to a kid to learn flying. Neo. No problem
I think the biggest missed opportunity with the flip (at least here in the US) is the lack of remote ID. With remote ID it would be an excellent category 1 drone.
This fact based review again is much appreciated! There is really no good choice for customers since new drones from DJI are always a commercial decision to make $$$. For DJI drones, people might have to skip to v2 (Avata, Air or even v3/4 mini) at least to be happy. It is a matter of how deep your pocket is besides the urgency, if you already have any drone(s) then you may wait for Flip V2, or Neo V2 for lower budget. The Flip V1 is definitely crippled on purpose, DJI might have just developed V2 but released V1 for What$oEver reasons. Stay tuned.
I took my flip out for the first time today - 20 degrees F and 20-25 mph winds - not so great... the end result was a jittery video and I had to put it. into sport mode to get it back before the battery ran out, My Mini 4 Pro was much better - I wish I still had it, but it is in the hands of the Paris police!!
As a photographer I like to fly discreetly without attracting attention. The main thing which I dislike about the Flip is the noise it produces making it very conspicuous and annoying to the general public. I am more than happy with my Mini 4Pro despite the cost and the requirement for a controller as it suits my needs. Just depends what purpose the drone is being bought for I suppose but I don't think that the Flip or Neo are going to go down well with the drone haters. I just like to fly unnoticed!
Great review- i like that you gave a fair and balanced review with the pros and cons listed, and didn’t let your personal preferences affect the review as many have done. It really looks like a great drone, and is quite unique, but it’s just not for everybody. While it’s not for me, i actually like that dji is making these different drones that appeal to a wider niche market. I’m going to invest in the avata 2 as I’ve never tried fpv before and i still love my mini 4 pro. However I’m eager to see the rumored mini 5 pro maybe late this year and hope for some focus tracking upgrades and more.😎
Mini 4 Pro definitely seems like the better choice but I really hope the Mini 5 Pro has iterates and improves on quick shots/controllerless options for solo shooters. I would love the best of both worlds
I’m new to drones and am waiting for my Flip to arrive. I wanted a good camera as well as some prop protection given I am new. So, despite all the typical negative UA-cam videos, it really does feel like the right drone for me. That being said, some of the things that DJI could update via firmware, do they have a history of actually doing that? Really like your channel, thanks for videos!
Shame you can't just buy the flip and maybe a battery pack on its own. How many controllers do I need? If I go through the bins on the shelf here in my study, I will lose count.
Sorry wrote this before you'd finished. I do think that it follows you a lot better than the mini 3 or 4 Pro. It is almost as if you have a cameraman with a gimble. Looks so smooth.
Mate you the best THANK GOD an HONEST review and I cant wait to get mine in a couple of days I am a beginner I am sure I would love everything about it haha. I live in Tenerife so we have the best weather in the world and place to live .perfect drone weather haha
I enjoy the Neo, it does what I need, it needed slightly better video capability and the obstacle avoidance. In short what I want is the mini pro 4 that has autonomous flying so I do not need a controller
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Again a great video. When thinking about a drone-only option, I'm struggling to find a reason for the Flip when already owning a Mini 4. Here, in my opinion, the Neo as a drone-only option does make more sense...
Great content as always, I have the motion combo neo and rc2 flymore mini 4 pro so I have no need for the flip. However I do enjoy watching your video breakdowns on the new models and such as they come out :D
They missed many things!! 1. It should have been a bit smaller! 2. The tracking - especially in direction track can’t by far not compete with the HoverAir X1 Pro Series 3. They forgot to release a beacon! 4. They forgot to sell the drone without a remote!
I was initially intrigued with the flip when rumors first came out. I think they really missed out with it not having remote ID. Would be awesome to have a category 1 drone for flights over people. I also wish that it's camera would rotate like the mini 3 & 4. Because of those two missing features, I will not be getting it. I'll just stick with my ol' reliable Mini 3 Pro.
Would like to buy the DJI flip with batteries and charger. I have the Neo with the RCN 3, batteries and charger. Do not see the point in buying another controller. Would like to use the Neo with the phone, then the flip for scenic images. Seems I might end up going for The Mini 3 with New controller and battery set as it works out cheaper. It will see me then with a spare controller! Great presentation thank you.
Why not make a Neo Mk11 slightly larger, using the camera from the Flip, more powerful props and battery and if possible folding like the HoverAirX1 Price it below the Flip and it will fly off the shelves.
I don't have any drones, so that's why I am interested. But the speed and not being able to track vehicles (even static ones) makes me wait for other products. Or a firmware update, if it ever happens.
Yep. I got a Flip cuz my M4P got stuck in customs and DJI eventually refunded my order. The Flip is kinda fun but is artificially crippled. It’s begging for a bunch of firmware updates. Otherwise I’ll be bored with it in a month.
I definitely would have bought it if i could buy it on its own or a combo with the batteries and charger, but i dont need any more controllers. Thanks for sharing my friend 😁 👌 👍 🇬🇧
I hate the design, but I think they really wanted the prop guards on there for autonomous flight. I own a Neo, a mini 3 pro, and an Avata 2 with the manual controller. I really wanted a quieter Neo with a better camera, and I would totally buy the Flip IF IT WORKED WITH THE GOGGLES. No FPV means I'm not interested.
bought flip, pity I couldnt get it without controller and a pity it dosent work with neo fpv. hopefully dji will upgrade the software to make it work with fpv and to make other changes you mentioned. Will keep Neo and mini3 and 4 each has its place.
Here is why it only fly for around 20meters height if you have no remote.. The Optical Flow only works on 20m height, if GPS Lock it will use the GPS around 5 meters altitude. If no remote the GPS is not working so it really rely only on Optical Sensor to lock on its position, if the drone reach that limit it will stop there or worst it will fly away. On distance your phone's wifi will be the issue on what limit of distance before disconnected on other phone it can reach 100meters. If no Phone then the distance is just set close like also 10 meters because it only sees you clearly on close range, if the drone goes too far it will have a chance of unfollow you because you become small on its image to identify and track you that is why when you're speeding up on a bike it will loose track of you and DJI is smart enough not to set the drone too far when stand alone no remote or smartphones.
I was wavering but I think I will get one to replace the mini 3. I also have an Air 2. The pros of using a drone straight out of the pocket with just an iPhone is too appealing to me. If I want to do a more complex shot then I can do that with the controller. The image quality will be similar too. The price of a mini 4 Pro at 2.5x the price is just too much of a stretch.
Honestly, I'd sell the Air 2 and use that and the flip money to get the mini 4 pro. It's easily better than both of them, just can't fly it with a phone only.
@DMProductions Camera quality is really impressive, overall I'd stay it's sort of a Jack of all trades, you can do most of what you would wanna do with a non fpv drone (for now) but it isn't the best at anything. I still think the flip has it's place in the dji's drone lineup
DJI appears to imply this is designed as a person's "first drone" with all these automatic follow me features. That's terrible in my mind. Would you give a 16 year old a new car with self drive capabilities and say 'it's ok, you don't need to learn to drive, it drives itself!"? Perhaps it's just me but, I feel better LEARNING TO FLY and understanding the drone vs "don't worry about it.. no need here!" yes, it has a controller but, it's just marketed/designed with less user interaction in mind
Really good review, detailed and answered all my questions, thank you, was thinking about this for a child and they would be disappointed with current configuration, have the mini3 pro, which kids are use to.
I think it's getting extremely unfair criticism. Instead of comparing it with the flagship mini dji drone, it's fairer to compare it to its market competitors, which it blows out the water in most ways.
great drone for showing where u are , not for follow mode . after 1 week and more than 2 hours of fly time , no regrets at all( noise lvl probably , ok ) but for 450 bucks I mean... what can you ask for
so lets say it like this the core drone is 320 euro vs 610 euro (flip vs mini 4) so its only 2x the price. people expecting the same on all levels given its 1/2 the price is silly.
Of course, we like the camera because it is the same as the Mavic Mini 4 Pro. However, the prop guards are NOT required. They could be delivered as a removable safety item. That is the only issue I have when price is considered. The extra sensors cost money and I could care less about collision sensors. I have NEVER crashed a drone into anything more than a bush and that is after flying for over 10 years. Overall, I do not fault the drone because of the price. I mentally reconciled this drone by treating it as a Mini 4k with Ocusync 4 capabilities. Nice. Prop guards...UGLY! That is it.
The Mini 3 is basically a Mini 4 though, that's the problem. There aren't really physical differences that aren't as drastic as the m3p to m3. Only added a pair of sensors as far as what you could get away with taking out of it. And the mini 4k was just released as the lesser of the non pro mini drones to replace the mini, mini 2 + SE
@CobaltOntarioadventures and that's my point. Give the mini 4 the OS avoidance sensors. That alone would be a buy. I liked my mini 3 but had a freak crash and I refuse to buy another with less obstacle avoidance. My air 2 had better OS avoidance.

Maybe a mini 4 with the front sensor the flip uses would be a good non pro version. Then you could get the faster following through trees. My only complaint with the Mini 4 pro is it is VERY cautious on trails etc and the Neo keeps up better, somehow lol (it also crashes a lot)
10mph on tracking ?? Just watch an awesome video where the mtber got up to 26mph and the flip was following him fine , that’s down hill on proper single track not some open fire road 😉👍
My 2 cents... neo is just better for hands-free. Risk is lower because of the value. Flip is too big. its real competition is the HoverAir, and it doesn't match it. Lastly, the camera is way too exposed for a pocket drone.
I bought the mini 4 pro for the tracking when it came out. Either mine is defective or the hype is overrated My mini 4 pro is great at getting lost It cant track a vehicle at any distance, in any condition
This drone would only make sense in the US if it had remote ID for the same price and weight. I would get it if it was classified as a Category 1 drone.
What do you think about the DJI FLIP? Get my DJI Cheat sheets and Video luts here - dmprovisuals.com
I have it and complete agree, I actually like it
I bought the Fly more combo with the RC 2 Controller. I am happy with it. Good for my bikepacking. But its my first DJI drone.
I am still waiting to hear back from you on my order for the pro 4
Speaking of luts…will your mini 3 pro luts work on my mini 3, cheers darren great vids!

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. Again a great video. When thinking about a drone-only option, I'm struggling to find a reason for the Flip when already owning a Mini 4. Here, in my opinion, the Neo as a drone-only option does make more sense...
The flip has its place but put prop guards on the M4P and you have a save drone too. Quick shots have minimal use.........for me.
Great content as always, I have the motion combo neo and rc2 flymore mini 4 pro so I have no need for the flip. However I do enjoy watching your video breakdowns on the new models and such as they come out :D
What is the difference between this and the DJI Open? Ive been seeing adds for the open a lot lately
Open?
They missed many things!!
1. It should have been a bit smaller!
2. The tracking - especially in direction track can’t by far not compete with the HoverAir X1 Pro Series
If you use the rc-n3 controller you can record audio the same as if you use the phone only. So you can describe what the drone is seeing
Nice video but I stayed on DJI Neo for now. Waiting for Neo 2? Keep it up Sir.
Good choice
Loved the intro haha
If the DJI Flip sells for "drone only" for ~$310, then I'll consider buying it as I already have the RC2.
The lodge looks so cool
Now you are correct i would probably buy the flip if they sold it as a drone only. I own the RC2, and the FPV controller with my NEO and goggles3
Top 10 at lat
St. Now let’s have a listen!
Where the flip is the Yankee hat
It does not make sense not to be able to use the FPV googles or hand controller……strange.
Good idea bad execution, sticking with Neo 😊
100% think this would be a better choice
I hate the design, but I think they really wanted the prop guards on there for autonomous flight. I own a Neo, a mini 3 pro, and an Avata 2 with the manual controller. I really wanted a quieter Neo with a better camera, and I would totally buy the Flip IF IT WORKED WITH THE GOGGLES. No FPV means I'm not interested.
You can always tell a drone review here in England, grey dull miserable weather nearly all the time
My only drone right now is the Air 3S, so this would be a viable option for a small follow-cam. But DJI needs to update the phone software for sure.
bought flip, pity I couldnt get it without controller and a pity it dosent work with neo fpv. hopefully dji will upgrade the software to make it work with fpv and to make other changes you mentioned. Will keep Neo and mini3 and 4 each has its place.
I wouldn’t waste my money on the Flip. Spend a bit more to get a full featured Mini 4 /5 Pro.
I will wait until they sell the drone only. Then it will be a good deal. And hopefully FPV will be added.
Good information.

Hope you enjoyed Forest of Dean. That’s where I intend using mine.
It wasn’t the Forest of Dean but would love to go there too!
Tracking speed is much higher then NEO 12 m/s (tracking status) it is 43 km/h no 10 miles per hour
At minimum DJI could have given a native 4k portrait like mini 3.3pro and 4pro. Cropped 2k doesn't look nice sometimes.
I really like mine
Tell me, what do you like best about it
@DMProductions Camera quality is really impressive, overall I'd stay it's sort of a Jack of all trades, you can do most of what you would wanna do with a non fpv drone (for now) but it isn't the best at anything. I still think the flip has it's place in the dji's drone lineup
PASS. Happy with my Mini 3 with RC controller and the Hover X-1. I'd buy the Neo but they can't get it to work with the RC controller.
DJI appears to imply this is designed as a person's "first drone" with all these automatic follow me features.
That's terrible in my mind. Would you give a 16 year old a new car with self drive capabilities and say 'it's ok, you don't need to learn to drive, it drives itself!"?
Perhaps it's just me but, I feel better LEARNING TO FLY and understanding the drone vs "don't worry about it.. no need here!"
yes, it has a controller but, it's just marketed/designed with less user interaction in mind
Really good review, detailed and answered all my questions, thank you, was thinking about this for a child and they would be disappointed with current configuration, have the mini3 pro, which kids are use to.
If you already have the mini 3 pro then yeah no point really
They stopped updating the Neo. This does not bode well for DJI’s new drones including the Flip.
I think it's getting extremely unfair criticism. Instead of comparing it with the flagship mini dji drone, it's fairer to compare it to its market competitors, which it blows out the water in most ways.
Do you know not have fpv mode ?? Is not possible with a 3 axes gimble..Neo has 2 axes Gimble😉 greetz from the Netherlands
12:30 100% id buy it drone only. That’s the only way I would
great drone for showing where u are , not for follow mode . after 1 week and more than 2 hours of fly time , no regrets at all( noise lvl probably , ok ) but for 450 bucks I mean... what can you ask for
Yeah, when the mini 4 pro is only 300$ more, it's a no brainer. I think the mini 4 pro, and the NEO are the best two drones to own.
Good combo for sure
so lets say it like this the core drone is 320 euro vs 610 euro (flip vs mini 4) so its only 2x the price. people expecting the same on all levels given its 1/2 the price is silly.
@@scb2scb2 id rather spend an additional 300 any day for the superior drone.
@ so you want to spend 2x the price for a better drone thats fine why else spend 2x the price thats how it works.
That is it.
We should've gotten an update to the non-pro mini

@kingsamvisuals except a mini 4 with sensors is a mini 4 pro lol
DJI is not gonna add any new feature to the Flip.
If any new will be in Flip pro next year
I hope not, I don’t think a ‘pro’ would buy this when the mini 4 pro exists. They just need to add some more features to this
Drone only I’d buy it, I’ll stick with my Neo till I get a discounted or refurbed Mini 4 Pro….
My mini 4 pro is awesome, next one I buy will be the mavic 3 or 4. No interest at all in the flip
They need to fix the issue with flying in light mist.
What happened?
@ any hint of mist triggers the obstacle sensor. Check out Ian in London he made a video on it.
Drone ONLY is exactly what I'm waiting for...
Hope it happens !
Lack of vehicle tracking is why I’m not buying this. Will have to save up a bit more for a Mini 4 Pro. Which I guess is exactly what DJI want.
I bought the mini 4 pro for the tracking when it came out.
Either mine is defective or the hype is overrated
My mini 4 pro is great at getting lost
It cant track a vehicle at any distance, in any condition
This drone would only make sense in the US if it had remote ID for the same price and weight. I would get it if it was classified as a Category 1 drone.
Another negative is no rear legs
Cons:
No RID (flying over people in the US)
No drone only, or drone only fly more kit
no fpv. they took the excitement and fun out of the drone. the cripple hammer strikes again.
Needs to be added for sure
I bought (and lost) a DJI Neo and it wasn't compatible on release with some of the gear that it's compatible with now. It might still come.
when it comes to small drones we're all waiting for the Mini 5 Pro, this is just a distraction..
If fisher price made drones this would be it
Seems to me that DJI rely on the likes of you to test their products!!
I don't like cuz it 2 big. I have neo, mini 4 pro, 3s. I'm spoiled by neo small size. I take and fly everywhere cuz people not scared
