Thanks Wess! I liked the white also. I would love to do all white top cabinets, then choose a color and do this process with the white glaze to the bottom cabinets and island..
@@WoodworkingWithWes Wes, I tried to ask you before and I didn’t get a reply. I know you’re busy and I’m sorry to bother you.. Argh, now to do my own with white or dark glaze. 😩 They both look great! I’ve painted the walls lighter, going to put in lighter flooring so I could get away with the dark glaze. But I’m kinda loving the white glaze from your samples.
I've been watching these videos, trying to figure this process out. You had mentioned that sealant was key. I have been trying to figure out when the sealant should be applied. I think this video answered that question. Sealant before glaze. I like the black one better.
Nice! I like the black and the white. You will be glad to know I’ve been cerusing like crazy since watching and learning from you. 😃 I’ve been building Christmas presents since I have so many to do. I’ve been using stain and dyes, I can see I need to get and try the glaze. Thank you Wes!
@@Julie-ik1pp Just like other finishes, but the colors are what I love about them. They come in powdered, or liquid form. Mix the colors you want, and wipe, or brush on prepped wood like you would any other finish. The colors look amazing just on all pine , even 2x4 , 2x6’s and so on. With every coat the colors get deeper, and dry fast.

Thank you Wes for taking the time to show us something new and exciting, I really love the blue with the white glaze, would you recommend it for a kitchen though? I want to freshen up my whole kitchen, but as yet I am undecided on a practical color. I am scared to go too dark as the kitchen does not get enough natural light, also hesitant to go too bold like the blue, for fear of being bound by the color too much. I'd love to get your input on this. Thanks again for your wonderful content, I really appreciate it keep safe from Mitzi in South Africa
I love navy blue kitchens! In fact, I lost my navy blue kitchen cabinets to a lightning fire and flood that happened in March. I’m replacing with dark gray because I’m going back to how the house was when it was built in 1950. I would love this finish! It’s beautiful!
Hi Mitzi...of course, color choice is yours. I would check home decor sites for ideas and trends and use that as your guide. Most of my clients are still doing white with bold colored accent cabinets. Good luck and thanks for watching. Wes
Beautiful. Wondering it is possible to wire brush my wood cabinet, not use a color base coat but rather just add color glaze to existing cabinet color to highlight grain.
Hi Glenda...some things to consider if you do that: ~would it ruin the existing finish? ~what would you do for top coat over your glaze? The only thing I could suggest is to try a test sample. Good luck, let me know how it goes. Wes
I really want to do this blue and grey to my bottom set and a white and gray to the top set for my new house on the lake. The entire house is trimmed out in golden oak cabinets, baseboards and even headers in the living room and I think this would be a magical difference. Originally my wife wanted to have glen guard or similar come in snd just dark all the stain to a more modern color stain and I really want some color instead. This seems like a good compromise of keeping the wood grain and adding some flair
I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay, our docks and piers were not the color of raw wood. I like the silvery gray on the docks, on a paler blue with this method should be really nice.
I think you had all that blue residue when wiping off the white glaze because you didn't wipe down the panel after you did that quick sand. So it left the blue dust behind.
hi nice and amazing work i try with paint sample the problem i have wrong type of paint like kils can i tell what paint i can use because i looking for premium wall & wood primer i don't found it out off stuck thank you
Wes, Love all your videos, makes me think I can do it too! i want to update my golden oak cabinets in my kitchen. but cerusing them may be overwhelming to the senses. So, I was wondering if you ever did a combination of perhaps cerus frames and filled interior or visa versa and your thoughts on how that might look for say, all the uppers.
I'm totally jumping into the world of cerusing because of your videos! Thanks for making it seem doable 💜 *Have you or anyone following done a white base with a colored glaze, like blue chip?* I want more white with a little color accent. Will probably need to experiment but I don't wanna spend money on another glaze.
Wes, I've enjoyed you ceruse videos but I don't use the paints that you use. Is there away to ceruse just using latex or oil paints that I can get from Home Depot or Lowes? If so how would I do it or have you already done a video on it?
Wes, I don't have a paint shop or a good sprayer to paint the doors. Would I be able to paint with a good brush or roller and get the finish I need to have and then put the glaze on and get a good finish.
Probably too late to ask and this might be a dumb question: Does the wire brush use on the grain ruin the wood? Or can they be repainted later with one color or taken down to the bare wood and restained after this process?
Thanks for another wonderful video. Could you show how to make over dark cherry cabinet? Or keep the cabinet color but make it look good. What would you do?
Question: Does cerusing peel and chip off (after a while), like a regular paint job? How about “glazing” only? Note: I have golden oak cabinets (in excellent shape), and my husband doesn’t want them messed with…
Tell your husband he is welcome to step out of the 80’s anytime now. And hey if you mess it up there is no end to golden oak crap everywhere in damn near every house it’s is horrible. So tell your husband to stretch his creativity and grow a little.
The last thing on earth anybody wants is cabinets that look like a weekend warrior slapped some paint over them. I (and most) people want it to look as if it came from the factory that way and these don't, they are BETTER. Cerusing looks 100x better than just painting a solid color, 17:30... So even if you wanted a strong medium hue it isn't all in your face as a solid color would be, and looks so much more expensive. Just be sure the final clear coating is durable enough to stand up to grease removing cleaners which will no doubt need to be used time to time.
Great video and very inspiring. Is there a way to get these great results without an air compressor and sprayer? Can the primer and sealer be applied with a brush or applicator? Also, how would you recommend finishing the back side of the cabinet door - I don't imagine The whole process is necessary for the back?
Ugg, I wish I had seen this years ago before I polyurethaned my cabinets, I think it would be too hard to get down to grain now. I think I would try a tone on tone antique white.
Love your channel. Do I need a certain stiffness or type of wire brush to do this and do you know if there’s possibly a tool or attachment that could be used to get the same result? Old joints lol

We’d, I am attempting to do this on my kitchen cabinets but not having great results. Can’t get ML Campbell products anywhere around here. What is the best type of primer. Can I use a “paint/primer” in one? Is it a regular flat type finish? Flat seems to absorb the glaze too much and I tried an eggshell finish paint over primer abc that seals the wood grain and just makes a regular antique finish, which I don’t want. I’m going on 3rd try and am running out of time to get this right!!
Dee Dee...unfortunately we have found that to be the case in some areas. Some of our followers have had success in getting ML Campbell. We are now in the process of experimenting with Home Depot paint products to see if we can get the same effect. Thank you for visiting. Wes
I can not find the ML Campbell glaze products anywhere in my area or online to buy. Can you suggest another brand that works the same and will give the same effects for cerusing as ML Campbell. One of your videos you mentioned that you use to use Benjamin Moore Glaze. Thank you and can’t wait to try this on my cabinets!

What ML Campbell product did you use for the blue? I have Ben using EU style waterborne PU but I don't like the finished mill thickness. Before I was using AcromaPro Matador but it's a PIA to use.
I painted my oak bathroom cabinets with white paint several years ago. Am I able to just wire brush them and then glaze with the black or do I need to remove the white paint. I can't remember what kind of paint I used, does this matter? (all I know is that it was a water based paint 2 coats)I am hoping I can just brush them and glaze, or do I have to remove the existing paint?I appreciate your time
I am not sure that just wire brushing will accomplish what you want to do. However, try a test on the backside of the drawer or door face and see what you think. If it doesn't work you may have to start over. Watch for an upcoming video where we will show paint options to help with that issue. Thanks Wes
Hi Lisa and Wes. I’m wondering this same thing. Did you have success? Wes, you mentioned you may have a video on cerusing over pre painted cabinets. Have you done this? Thanks so much.
Hi Keith...we have shown many videos detailing the cerusing process. In most of them, I use ML Campbell tinted primer sealer and ML Campbell furniture glaze because they are my favorite. However, some of our videos show alternative products for the same process. Hope this helps...check them out. Thanks for watching, Wes
Wes - your videos are amazing - thank you! I have a question - my golden oak kitchen cabinets were painted about 15 years ago. Can I still ceruse them? If so will I need to remove all of the paint and get down to the wood finish?
Can you do this with oak chairs? I'm guessing you can, but.... is their an easier way than wire-brushing all those dowels and round edges to still make the grain stand up and have the texture? I don't know, maybe it isn't as hard as I'm imagining and nothing ventured nothing gained! lol Thanks!
@@WoodworkingWithWes yeah... that's what i thought, darn it! lol! i will try and find a brush with a curve, i guess, or just work my way around the skinny dowels. We would love to see you do a chair sometime.... thanks!
Hi Wes! Question, how do I know how deep I should wire brush? Meaning, can you wire brush too deep? I have done this but I feel like there are a lot of wire grooves that appear is the soft area of the wood now. Did I brush too deep? Thank you so much in advance - I truly enjoy your tutorials. :)
Tracy...I really don't think you can wire brush too much. I have scrubbed very hard on some of my doors and still came out with a great look. But consistency is more important than how deep the wire brushing goes. Thanks for watching. Wes
I love you Videos man! Subscribed right away! I have a problem though, I’m trying to replicate my clients floor color on his stairs, but no meter what i do its not the same, its wire brush finish with ash like color with yellowish tone, i wish i could show you pictures, or email them to you, I’m trying to ask everyone i can, I’m desperate at this point…
@@WoodworkingWithWes Yea i know man, if i can make at least something similar, thank you very much for your reply, I’m gonna send pictures to your email shortly! 🤝
Hi Jenny...the heavy gain of oak is very hard to completely eliminate. I suggest using a product we have found to be an excellent cover for painting over pre-finished cabinets. Check out our video on Beyond Paint...this is a great product. Just follow the manufactures suggested process for the best results. Thank you for watching. Wes ua-cam.com/video/qkcuOknMxqQ/v-deo.html
@@WoodworkingWithWes OK, take 2. Does it matter what wood is underneath and what finish is on them now? If I start acquiring similar cabinets (door fronts) will I be able to get them to match? I was going to send you a pic, but UA-cam doesn't have that option. I could send by email if provided

Hi Sr. after this job need it put on some seller coat, or may be some clear coart to protect it ? thanks
Yes, as I indicated in the video....I always use a final, clear coat to protect the colors. Thanks, Wes.
Watching from the UK. What precisely is the "Glaze paint" that you use?
Hi Keith...we have shown many videos detailing the cerusing process. In most of them, I use ML Campbell tinted primer sealer and ML Campbell furniture glaze because they are my favorite. However, some of our videos show alternative products for the same process. Hope this helps...check them out. Thanks for watching, Wes
Wes - your videos are amazing - thank you! I have a question - my golden oak kitchen cabinets were painted about 15 years ago. Can I still ceruse them? If so will I need to remove all of the paint and get down to the wood finish?
Same here, except polyurethane, I think this only works if you get down to grain texture.
Can you do this with oak chairs? I'm guessing you can, but.... is their an easier way than wire-brushing all those dowels and round edges to still make the grain stand up and have the texture? I don't know, maybe it isn't as hard as I'm imagining and nothing ventured nothing gained! lol Thanks!
Disassemble …
Finish….
Reassemble…👍
Hi Cindy....yes you will still have to wire brush to enhance the grain for the true cerusing effect. Good luck, thanks for watching. Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWes yeah... that's what i thought, darn it! lol! i will try and find a brush with a curve, i guess, or just work my way around the skinny dowels. We would love to see you do a chair sometime.... thanks!
@@cindyp2181 great suggestion...could be an upcoming video, who knows?
the white would look nice in a bath room w/ white fixtures
Yes it would...thanks for your comment. Wes
How long should a 2x4 screw be?
Wes
After lightly sanding the paint coat, I don't believe the panel dust was wiped. I'm sure it's the sanded dust that turned the glaze color
Actually, I blew the sanding dust off with an air nozzle and the glaze color is the same as what I applied. Thanks for watching, Wes
Why did you mix it with lacquer?
mix the black and white. Make gray. see what happens?
Can you paint color on with a brush
What do you spray on for top coat?
What color is that blue? I love it!
It is Sherwin William blue chip. Thanks for your visit. Wes
Buenas noches. Como puedo pedir es furneture glaze producto en mexico en español
Where can you buy the glaze? Is it found at local hardware store? Home depot? Lowes?
Yes...glaze products are available at most local paint suppliers.
Color matching is often very difficult, even for me. Send a picture to woodworkingwithwes@gmail.com and lets take a look. Thanks Wes
@@WoodworkingWithWes Yea i know man, if i can make at least something similar, thank you very much for your reply, I’m gonna send pictures to your email shortly! 🤝
Could you provide a list of materials that you use
You should have sanded the green one down. I think that would have e brought out the other colors
This gives me Bob Ross vibes
😀. haha...I have heard that before ! Thanks for watching. Wes
What if I don't like the grain in my honey oak custom cabinets? What process do I use? Ty
I feel the same way, I hate the grain on my oak cabinets. I wish he would respond to your question.
Wes

Can I use a wire brush attachment to a hand held orbital sander to cabinet boxes which cannot be taken down, like the doors??
Not an orbital sander as it would create round scratches. Unless you maybe held the orbital on edge?
Jobelle...the orbital motion would not create the proper cerusing finish. Thanks for watching. Wes
What about the glaze color. Are there other colors besides white and Black?
Yes...glaze can be any color. Thanks, Wes
Is there a way to add a grain to where there isn't one? I have some shaker style white cabinets
Hi David...unfortunately that probably would not work. Thanks, Wes
Does the paint you spray on first have to be lacquer?
Becky...the paint that I spray is not a lacquer but a primer sealer...then glaze and then clear top coat, usually lacquer. Thanks for watching Wes
Does this work well on walnut ? Thanks!
Check out our video on "Cerusing 11 Different Kinds of Wood." You will have an opportunity to see what the walnut would look like. Thanks, Wes
Can I ask what is the make\model of paint sprayer it is youre using?
Please watch our newest video on making a spray gun selection where we show what I use. I think you will find it helpful. Thanks for watching. Wes
How do you deal with the taped edges of the particle board cabinets? How do you get that to match?
I have found that the cerusing process on edge banding and veneer panels to be very unsatisfactory as the veneer is too thin. Thank you for watching. Wes
Maybe it could be replicated with a graining effect, using the graining tool that looks like a curved rubber stamp.
Can we use stain instead of glaze?
Stain instead of glaze has never worked well for me, but you are welcome to give it a try and see what you think. Thanks for watching. Wes
Can this be done on new doors? I'm making new doors on old boxes.
Yes it can be done very effectively. Please watch our video showing a new build with the cerusing process. Thanks, Wes
