As we can see it’s easy to fake who you are; all you have to do is put up some pictures and talk sweet. That being said, she was a sweet girl and she gave this person the benefit of the doubt. Im sorry but her mom allowing a 15 year old to leave the house alone at 10 p.m. to meet a strange man then falling alseep is utterly insane to me. Even if it would have been who it was supposed to be, letting your daughter walk out late at night to meet up with a 19 year old because he "had something to give her" just baffles me. Sad case on all fronts, but I feel that this one could have been prevented.
I agree, there's no way my daughter would be going out to meet a much older boy at 10pm, it's ludicrous and my mami stayed awake till I got home no matter what age I was if out partying for example, she "couldn't sleep till she knew I was safe" - quote Nor sure about the lip piercing, either
I agree. Not to mention he was a complete stranger to the mom. I would be like "No"! He can come back in the morning and introduce himself properly and drop whatever he needs to drop off at the door. Beyond all that, my kids are not allowed social media, much less talk to and give their address to someone I don't know. A lot of these case could be prevented if the parents did the bare minimum.
It’s easy to judge someone’s parenting when they lose a child like this. Not that I agree with her being allowed to go out or what not, but I’m absolutely certain her poor mother thinks about that every damn day. Doubt that woman needs anyone judging her, she has lost a child. Furthermore, lip piercing? Really? Knocking on a murdered 15yo’s facial piercing…? Confused why anyone feels comfortable enough to even type that, then post it. Whew.
As for being her cousin, and being to young to remember what happened at the time, I'm glad I got to watch this video to actually understand what happened. Thinking about this monster has made me sick to my stomach, I hope he never gets out of prison and lives every second of his miserable life regretting what he did, and never has a moment where he's at peace. It's genuinely terrifying to think what she had gone through. RIP Nichole, may she rest in peace forever.
Police: "the first 24 hours are the most important in solving crimes" Also Police: "we're going to wait at least 24 hours before even starting to investigate missing persons"
I think about and talk about it with my family everyday. My son is 22 with his own family, but I still make sure they do not trust everyone fully. 😢 Some of these stories make me sad and others infuriate me. Be careful out there!! 🙏
This right here. Like Oh My God... you as the parent are letting your child go met up with a boy who DROVE there who you have NEVER met? And not at least make sure she made it back into the house? I really want to believe there is some wholesome reasoning behind this like the mom is handicapped or mentally disabled in some way. Okay so you have THAT much trust in your daughter... but also don't think about her safety? Seems more likely they didn't care...
When I was a teenager, my family lived in a very rural part of Idaho. My parents were very trusting, and would’ve had no problem at all doing exactly what this woman did. It’s different when you live in a very rural, normally very safe part of the world. You look at the world in a totally different way. You’re way more trusting, to the point of what looks like naïveté and stupidity to people who live in a larger city. 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for telling this story. I am from Maine and remember this case. So sad RIP Nichole. Hard to believe it has been 10 years since this happened.
Dear young people.. I understand firsthand how exciting it can be to encounter handsome strangers online. The key is maintain your dignity on the first real life meet. It can be rewarding so long as you take responsibility for your own safety. Please do not ever give your address or arrange to hang out privately. Meet them at a busy market/mall, no later than sunset for a casual stroll, you don’t need a ride to or from. Allow them to pass or fail a public litmus test, keep your home separate & safe :}
I wish an adult had said all that to me years ago. Whenever an adult speaks reasonably kids listen and it would have saved me from some awful stuff. A lot of parents think if they make something sound as dangerous or horrible as possible that it's better. But literally nothing could be less helpful. Kids aren't stupid and they know when they are being misled so what happens is they just don't trust anything the parent says after that.
my older sister used to get mad that when she went on dates I would ALWAYS come out meet dude and take pics of licsence plates, but oh well may have saved her life and we dont know. every dude who would get mad I did that always turned out to be a looser too
If my child was meeting someone they met online. I would not let them go on their own. You can’t trust anyone even strangers you meet on the internet. Be mindful about who you met, in person or on internet. Just be careful and don’t ever meet someone you don’t know by yourself.
She shouldn’t have been doing that at 15 anyway. The internet was fairly new when I was that age and my mom would never allow me to meet anyone in person. I now understand why she was so concerned about us being on the internet.
When we were still raising our girls, there was not a single minute from birth to college when we didn’t know where they were and who they were with. We also monitored all of their online activity. We weren’t overbearing, rather just responsible parents because of these stories. They’re also both absolutely beautiful, so that was my extra headache!
Mom stop letting your 15,16 just turned 17 yr old daughter date a Adult male especially with a child. Unless your child is about to be 18 they have no business with a boyfriend any to be legal to buy n contribute alcohol into your childs life
So his brother n Guy girlfriend knew but said nothing as this dude offers to babysit this young ladies sister? They need to be charged. It was his girlfriend that I'm sure pushed his loyalty to her that he went to prove it
We have a long drive in a rural area. I would never have gone to bed if my daughter was going to the end of the driveway to meet someone she’d never met in person. Sorry, not trying to be mean, but I would have walked at least halfway and waited or most likely taken her to the end of the driveway and met the person as well. RIP Nichole.
WAIT WHAT... her daughter went to meet a guy in the driveway at like 8pm, and her mom didnt check to see when she came back? didnt notice her missing till the AM.. stellar mom
Well she could've started by not letting her daughter go out to meet some boy that late at night, or at the very least made sure she came back in BEFORE SHE WENT TO BED!!!! All she had to do was make that boy come up to the house to drop off whatever he needed to drop off and this whole thing would've been prevented.
How is it that someone who has a history with crime, and lead police with a high speed chase with a motorcycle and hit a police officer be free to be sentenced later (at the time) to murder someone in cold blood? This all could've been averted.
not saying its any less bad but the real brian butterfield was 19 and the one behind the screen was 20, still horrible and disgusting but i can understand somewhat why the mom would be okay with it, she had probably done it many times before and listened like her mom said.. i feel so bad for her and her family. also poor real brian, i would change my name if i was him like damn bro seemed kind. which is why the mom was probably okay with it (the 20yr old had a whole record of crimes so im sure thats why he had to hide behind his friends name)
So the mother claims to be this protective mother, but she lets her 15yo daughter go to the end of the road after 9pm, when it's dark, to see some boy she's never met, and she just goes to bed before she returns? That just doesn't seem right. I would've had that boy come up to the house.
I'm sorry, but who lets their 15 year old child date a 20 year old guy with a kid, then lets them meet up with a stranger at night and goes to bed and doesn't at least wait up to make sure they come back home. Some very bad choices, RIP Nichole.
Her mother told her don’t go anywhere with anyone and instead of watching her or wait for her, she goes to sleep like a moron what kind of mother is that?
@@michelerenem shit up clown and listen to your mother and your mother should of drive her home or have her spend the night the mother let her go in the streets at night and then to sleep like a moron
I dont know why it is this 24 rule to try to find anyone missing in the US? In my country the police can search right away something they usualy do as long as people dont call about they're partner breaking up with them again or are just waisted.
This case being close to me makes me wanna see one of these channels pick up the case that just finished here in Washington County Maine. Native reservation, 3-4 miles from my town, a female was stabbed nearly 500 times. Arrested a male and female, end of the trial, female was found guilty, male it was a hung jury.
I am also in ME. Recently moved from MA to the southern border of ME and have not heard of that case. That sounds horrific! ❤ RIP to those taken by these evil creeps!!
I am a lifelong resident of Maine. This was a truly heartbreaking case. People think Maine is great and all but there have been numerous gory deaths that have hit the news in recent years. Hoping your channel will look into several other murders and/or disappearances that have stumped even the experts.
@@phoebebennett3024 - Absolutely. No one even got up during the night to pee and thought to check to see if she made it back safely? Teens with that much freedom unfortunately make prime candidates for evil people.
i was raised strict as ever and i still found ways to be sneaky and do the same things she did.. 30 now and i wish i would’ve been smarter about things..but nothing to do with parenting.
The mother didn't want to be too intrusive in her daughter's affairs by letting her meet the boy by herself in the dark. Big mistake. These young girls are precocious and should definitely not be left to deal with life on their own. It wasn't even the guy she thought she was on the phone with. You have to be kidding me. That's how ignorant these girls are. Mothers carry your daughters until they are settled in with a good guy. Use your experience to watch over them. Take nothing for granted.
I agree, she should of told her not to meet the guy in the dark and could see him in the day. And don’t go to bed and let your kid worry if it’s a stranger outside or someone else who pulled up.
This has weird old timey nice guy feels. She wasn't just a young girl, she was a kid who didn't understand the danger. Do I blame the mom? Yeah a bit. I blame the dad too, where was he? I blame the parents of the murderer, an obviously troubled dude with a history. Daughters don't need a 'good guy' to take care of them, they need the knowledge to take care of themselves. Daughter or son, gender doesn't really even matter. Teach your kid the dangers of the world but don't suffocate them. Teach your kids to be decent human beings.
How many young people have lost their lives due to the inaction of the police because of the teenage runaway stereotype? Like who cares if most teens turn up before long, why take the chance? That's insane to me.
It's not a stereotype. 99.999% of the time, the kid has either run away or they've snuck over to a friend's house. Police need reason to believe there's foul play.
His Lawyer is the perfect reason why I hate Defence Lawyers. Everybody deserves a defence i know that, But the Lawyer trying to get those note kicked out is disgusting. At that moment he knew very well that his man was guilty yet still tried pulling dirty tricks, And eventually putting other females at risk of loosing their lives. 🤮
When guilt is clear, all they should be doing is making sure their client gets a fair trial. All the dirty tricks they play are not what the justice system is about. So many of them lack any ethics or decency.
They say Moms never recover from this type of loss. They take their broken hearts w them to the grave once their body finally stops working and let's them die. The agony they endure thru the rest of their life, is much more than most of us ever know. Look into her eyes...she's broken smfh He should serve 2 life sentences. He's Killed two females

I wonder if she lied about how old he was. If I saw a guy when I was in my teens, I just said I was seeing a female friend. Kids are honest these days, but I still wouldn't allow my teen to date until 17 or 18, that being said, they could just lie to me like I used to. And I did often meet friends from online in the late 90s. Ohhh the naivety.
The company is shut down for illegal practices they would take just about anyone. The owner of said company was sued for firing someone without reasoning a year or two after this
That 24hour rule is outdated. It was put in place during the time of no cell phones, when people didn't have a mode of communication on their person at all times. 24hours was enough time given for your missing loved one to get incontact.
If you loved your daughter that much, you would’ve never let her meet anyone in the driveway without watching her or going to bed without making sure she was in the house safely plain and simple🤷🏾♂️
I recommend yall covering the Breana Rouhselang case. Happened in mishawaka indiana a few years ago. Very sad story about a pregnant girl getting dumped in a dumpster behind a restaurant
C I was just about to say they needed to get rid of the 24hrs crap. The most crucial information, evidence etc is within the first 24-48 hrs of a missing persons cases. It's best to interview family members, friends, witnesses & suspect then. So many cases have gone cold cause sum law enforcement agencies make people wait to report it. It's 2024 back n the day law's need to b updated ASAP smh 🤦🏽♀️
All you perfect, self-righteous moms in these comments…smh. Nichole didn’t go out to meet “some guy” or a “stranger” at the end of her own driveway. Nichole wouldn’t have even left her own property, had it been legit. It was supposed to be a friend of hers. Her mom went over the rules with her and trusted her daughter. It is not the moms fault nor Nichole’s fault that an evil, predator faked the identity of one of her friends and took advantage. Stop victim blaming and put the blame on the right person.
I'm shocked 2:49 as a mother..I kind of blame the mum who should have at least waited until she came back or heard of a call..she said she's just picking something..at 9 pm!
So Mom let her date an adult with a criminal record to boot, are you kidding me.Where the hell is the sense in these parents heads. The problem today is we don't have parents we have friends that act part time like parents.
If that were the case, the narration would have stated "he babysat" or "he even babysat"; what was stated was "he offered to babysit", which more than likely means that he wasn't taken up on his offer... thank God! Can you imagine?!?
How did nobody not know she was missing until the following morning? If my kid goes out im not sleeping until my kid is back in the house unless they have planned to stay overnight elsewhere.
what a scummy thing to do... not only did he take the life of an innocent girl, her last moments were full of butyral, hurt, heartache and fear. then on top of that, someone else who had NOTHING to do with anything, is going to feel some kind of guilt or worse because she was catfished using that person's name and will be forever associated with this case :( so fkn sad i hate people this is absolutely disgusting

I agree, there's no way my daughter would be going out to meet a much older boy at 10pm, it's ludicrous and my mami stayed awake till I got home no matter what age I was if out partying for example, she "couldn't sleep till she knew I was safe" - quote
Nor sure about the lip piercing, either
@@colettegibson6516yesss I couldn’t stop thinking how nasty that piercing was
Horrid, I just can’t get over the ease with which young people kill for no reason and then have the audacity to plead not guilty! RIP sweet girl 🙏
So sad for the girl and family. Devastating. That POS showed no remorse either.
Why refer to a child as a “young woman”? It diminishes the severity of a horrific crime!
Well, 15 year olds do quinceañeras all the time, because they are considered young woman now.

Yeah.. why do I keep watching?
The parents let their daughter go outside to meet a guy and then never made sure she came back inside ?????
Exactly…there’s no way on earth I would go to bed whilst my daughter was out, at night.
Exactly! Poor parenting! I would have stood right there and watched. She was only FIFTEEN! She shouldn’t have been meeting boys anyway!
@@HavaWMInteresting when you consider meth use & child traffiking are a real issue in rural USA areas. Cornbread Mafia I think they call it.
Thank you for telling this story. I am from Maine and remember this case. So sad RIP Nichole. Hard to believe it has been 10 years since this happened.
Dear young people.. I understand firsthand how exciting it can be to encounter handsome strangers online. The key is maintain your dignity on the first real life meet. It can be rewarding so long as you take responsibility for your own safety. Please do not ever give your address or arrange to hang out privately. Meet them at a busy market/mall, no later than sunset for a casual stroll, you don’t need a ride to or from. Allow them to pass or fail a public litmus test, keep your home separate & safe :}

I wouldn't allow my children at all.

We have a long drive in a rural area. I would never have gone to bed if my daughter was going to the end of the driveway to meet someone she’d never met in person. Poor Momma... What can you say? Only worry and hurt... I'm so sorry she went through this. I can't even imagine...

So the mother claims to be this protective mother, but she lets her 15yo daughter go to the end of the road after 9pm, when it's dark, to see some boy she's never met, and she just goes to bed before she returns? That just doesn't seem right. I would've had that boy come up to the house.

That shouldn’t have been allowed. She was far too young to be meeting boys online.
I agree, she should of told her not to meet the guy in the dark and could see him in the day. And don’t go to bed and let your kid worry if it’s a stranger outside or someone else who pulled up.
I agree 💯 exactly my comment above too..
The mother failed her daughter in the worst way here.

Please leave the young ladies mother alone with this creep for a couple hours
