I got my Swordmaster Trophy on Crushing Mode, it was Difficult but got through it, Sometimes you gotta look at Rafe especially when he does that 360 move trying to Trick you
Here was my strategy to do this on crushing: alternate pressing circle and triangle very fast with one thumb only. You have to find the right speed because too slow or too fast won't work. Then just mash square when Rafe is vulnerable and start alternating when he starts attacking again.
This boss fight was a direct upgrade of talbot's pathetic fight, the music also makes it 10 times better and even tho it can be challenging and for some infuriating it was a damn good boss fight for me ...still doesn't beat lazaravic tho
You have no idea how helpful I found this guide! :) Will come back to it when I need to get that swordsman trophy (although I won't be trying it on crushing, no way. Haha. One run through was bad enough :P)
here is my strategy for this boss use slow motion with hud on and this fight can be far less painful but i just finished this boss without hud by accident with many tries
I just wanna say, thank you so much. I did not expect this fight to be THIS hard on Crushing and it took me a few days of coming back and just trying every tactic. But thanks to you I managed to narrow down a few of the combos, so much so that it's now etched into my brain. If I ever go back to AC: Black Flag, my brain is gonna immediately say "CIRCLE CIRCLE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE TRIANGLE CIRCLE!!!!!!!" Even if I did end up just doing a tactic from someone else in the comments of just mashing Circle and Triangle, I have terrible hand-eye-coordination I'm diagnosed with Dyspraxia for a reason, so I just wanted this to be over ASAP. But when I got past the "Come on, Legend" phase... ohh that was the most satisfied I've been with a game. Regardless, thank you so much, you're an absolute star
I got it on my first day trying on crushing. Although I had to retry the final phase about 20 times. Thankfully there are checkpoints within the fight. Thanks for the video
if anyone still cares, go in accessibility and enable the option to hold down buttons for quicktimes, not tap, it means you have more leeway to not press a button to soon or too late, for the sam sword part specifically it helps a lot there
For those who need it: When Sam slides you the sword, triangle, circle, and triangle repeatedly until prompted to hold it down. Then it's triangle, circle, triangle
OMG, this is a brilliant idea! Thank you for the awesome guide. I finally reached the ship on crushing difficulty, and my anxiety is reaching the roof faster than Nate on a zipline 🥲. I guess it’s just a matter of time to get used to Rafe’s sword fight. 😭😭😭
Thank you so much for your awesome video. Took me 2 days with uncountable deaths because I failed to recognize Rafe's moves. But finally got it. Thank you, Thank You, Thank You.
Very informative and helpful video Lucy. Rafe was a bitch on crushing for me when I beat him a few months back. It was the speed of his animations that was the stumbling block for me but once I learned his animations, I could no damage his ass no problem.
i dont see why so many people hated the rafe fight, i really liked the change from a bullet sponge or a fist fight boss fight like the last games had, i mean yeah it was just quick time events but at least it looked badass unlike the other bosses in the games before and it was a fitting end to rafe (who is my favorite uncharted villain)
I totally agree. QTEs get a lot of hate these days but I don't think they are necessarily evil unless you use them in a lazy way. I think ND was quite creative with this boss fight.
4yrs old but I'm just now playing the game and honestly it's because the ridiculousness of it I can't tell the difference in the "left attack or right attack" he'll do what looks like the same exact motion back to back and I'll press the same button and block once then get hit the next. Like is it another directional attack or not because it's looking the same.
I think it's because it's such a departure from what you've been doing the whole game. A lot of games are guilty of this. At least in Uncharted 3, the final boss fight against Talbot really isn't that different from the melee sections that you've done all game. There aren't a bunch of sword fighting sequences along the way in Uncharted 4 to teach you the mechanics of how to fight that way.
Nate: “You want the treasure, Rafe?” Press the Triangle button. Nate: “It’s all yours.” cuts down a rope beside him. And Rafe gets crushed by a large cupboard.
There is one more move he does during his 2-3rd stage (I can’t remember which one it was) where he just fakes it to go left but goes right instead and kills you one hit, its kinda rare to get that attack he does
Thanks again for the video! I want to complete the game on Crushing but I died a few times in the end boss fight and that was just on Moderate. So I'll do my studying on your tips!
I literally love all of your videos :) You've helped me so much. I actually just started this channel for Uncharted Multiplayer! Hope i'm as successful as you.
4:45 minutes on this damn fight on crushing every time the button combo's was the same for the most part but for me I had to hit the button's completely different than what you shown but still this helped with most combo's I wrote them down and studied them I swear the AI adapts to your aggression and the way you play making it really difficult to balance the challenge lol
It was going well undamaged til phase 4... then I got lazy and searched up the combos, and look what pops up!! 😂 Excellent explanation, Swordmaster unlocked 🤘
This is my favourite final boss in videogame history PERIOD. It was badass and I replayed this boss so much in crushing that I can beat it in my first try now(with no cheats)
I’ve fought rafe so many times in a crushing to the point where i tried to fight him without looking at my screen, it took like 2 hours to know what button to press
Great video as always xLudix!! What boss battle would you say is your favorite in Uncharted? For me it's Rafe, Lazarevic, Talbot, and Navarro in that order.
I’m not sure how I feel about this fight. I’ve only played this game on crushing (as well as all of the other uncharted games) and with level 18 being a complete nightmare I didn’t think I could be surprised by anything else the game would throw at me. Wrong! I’m sitting here dumbfounded and at the same time impressed. On the one hand, I’m like, I didn’t know a guy with a sword could attack that many different ways (died about 43 times before finally being able to see and block all of the attacks). On the other hand, i’m like, where the f#*k did this come from? I finally get good enough to consistently pull off Headshots (aim assist = 0 because even on 10 it’s useless), then the Devs decide to go this route. Swords? Really?!?
Wow you are an eagle eyed viewer, I hadn't even noticed that myself!! Its because I beat the fight using encounter select to allow me to replay it over and over quickly but needed to use pre-recorded footage to add the ending cutscene =)
The most annoying part is... Rafe kills you in 1 hit.
Yeah that does suck but at least they give you checkpoints so you don't have to do the whole thing flawlessly on Crushing =O
Sometimes he kills u in 2 hits. Or sometimes he kills you in 3 hits. That was even worse than Brutal difficulty in the last 3 Uncharted Games.
@@Koganai96 alrightttttt lets not go thatttt far lol
To be fair. If you got slashed by a sharp sword wearing nothing but normal clothes, you would probably die in one hit as well.
@@handson920 Doesn't apply to him tho

Ok I'll leave.

I got my Swordmaster Trophy on Crushing Mode, it was Difficult but got through it,

Just choose slow motion in game modifiers, It's a bit of a cheat but it works and the trophies still pop for some reason.
Thank you so much dude I actually beat him on slow motion on crushing
1000 IQ you saved me a headache
You can't use modifiers on a first playthrough on crushing
Thank you! I'd been fighting Rafe in crushing mode for a couple days and this didn't even cross my mind
Game modifiers where is that option I'll never able to pass these level without some guide my reflex is not that good
I've been replaying Chapter 20 on Crushing for fun, but this sword fight has me rage quitting.
A true Hardcore gamer might rage but he will never quit.

I was getting mad because it was destroying the pace
I was stuck on the last phase. You saved me, Lucy! 😀
Yay, I'm really glad to hear that =) Congrats for beating him!
xLudix I'll play Chapter 20 a hundred times in a row before I ever play this again 😵
"If you wanna live, don't get in my way."
Didn’t really rely on this to take down Rafe on crushing. Just relied on my instincts and kept trying.
Same took him down in 5 minutes.
This boss fight was a direct upgrade of talbot's pathetic fight, the music also makes it 10 times better and even tho it can be challenging and for some infuriating it was a damn good boss fight for me

Congrats!
I was having such a hard time on this final boss...on normal difficulty, I guess I suck at reading attacks even when I have time to counter them
Absolute same for me don't feel bad I ran through everything else pretty handily and then this troll of a fight kicked my ass forever.
if anyone still cares, go in accessibility and enable the option to hold down buttons for quicktimes, not tap, it means you have more leeway to not press a button to soon or too late, for the sam sword part specifically it helps a lot there

Hey, I'm playing Uncharted 4 again now. Thanks for this and your stealth vids!

Extremely fast button bashing circle and triangle also works.
Very informative and helpful video Lucy. Rafe was a bitch on crushing for me when I beat him a few months back. It was the speed of his animations that was the stumbling block for me but once I learned his animations, I could no damage his ass no problem.
Yeah I agree learning his moves helps you feel more in control of the fight rather than being taken by surprise every time. Thanks for the comment =)
Thank you so much for this, it was fun reading his movements, but I can only take so much. You helped a lot. Keep it up :)
i dont see why so many people hated the rafe fight, i really liked the change from a bullet sponge or a fist fight boss fight like the last games had, i mean yeah it was just quick time events but at least it looked badass unlike the other bosses in the games before and it was a fitting end to rafe (who is my favorite uncharted villain)

This fight is fine on normal diffuculty but the crushing required for the platinum trophy is just retarded.
I think it's because it's such a departure from what you've been doing the whole game. A lot of games are guilty of this. At least in Uncharted 3, the final boss fight against Talbot really isn't that different from the melee sections that you've done all game. Nate: “You want the treasure, Rafe?”
Press the Triangle button.
Nate: “It’s all yours.” cuts down a rope beside him.
And Rafe gets crushed by a large cupboard.
If you don't press anything he stabs you in the heart and that is the good ending. If you kill him that is the bad/alternate ending
I was able to get the Swordmaster trophy while playing on Crushing. I was surprised too cause I think he hit me at the very end. :)
Nice work!

If I remember correctly, I think you can just hit both buttons at the same and the game will register it.
I hope they add Brutal difficulty in the DLC for Uncharted 4.
I'm not sure if I can handle around round of Brutal, the pain is too much =O!!
I don’t think so in crushing rafe can already kill you in 1 or 2 slashes or stabs
Elias-Josue In brutal, he would probably just kill you just by staring

Actually you have to dodge his attacks in the opposite direction. Which means u have to dodge Rafe's POV attacks.
Thank you very much 🌹🎉

How can I sse which moves he do?

Rafe changes his attack pattern if he hits you and you have to react very quickly
With a Mel Gibson Lethal Weapon 2 ending
on easy you can press both triangle and circle at the same time and it will auto block any attack. i wish that would work on crushing lol
