It's more of a military sabre style, rapier would involve more thrust work than cutting, but I think Makashi form grabs a lot of our own historical sources for the development of the form in it's early days. I think it was also a form designed around the character and with sir Christopher Lee's own experience in mind, a more refined conservative approach for duelling, so maybe if anything even more duelling sabre! Thanks for the comment though, I'm glad I managed to give that impression as it was indeed my goal! - Rui - the sith guy ;)
@@EspadaNegra Very cool. Thanks for the info. I'm fascinated by martial arts as a whole. Anakin uses some kind of German Longsword style from real life.
If compared to historical sources that could be a good comparison, many flourishes thrown in to the mix as well, but considering he often also switches from a double handed grip into a single handed grip it's always a broad comparison. Overall each form has it's own quirks but in light of historical swordsmanship there's plenty to say and I could talk for hours on end on the matter.
@@EspadaNegrapersonally! I loved the presentation of the form, the swift flourishes of the blade allowed for misdirection, before leading into a strike from a different direction entirely. I could definitely see a Sith Lord of the former Empire fighting in such a manner. Definitely one that sat upon the Dark Council
when the sun blades stick really hard the combat becomes probably so much weirder like a dance. I wonder if it''s like the movies.... in 25000 years it may seem like "HEMA" or distant blades sticking out in positions "ON GUUURD" (Guy sticks out blade in position, Jedi Master swats other lightsaber like fly, and slices hema guys head off predicting his next mirror move)
That's definitely something we can relate to. Best advice is to learn it yourself, try to explore as much as you can and learn from as many sources as you can and start it yourself :)
@@EspadaNegra Are there any primary sources you would recommend to get started? I have a filipino martial arts background, so I'm familiar with footwork and angles etc. Would really like some good material that explains the concepts etc. Thank you :)
I'll not claim to have a vast knowledge on lightsaber fencing, so consider these just my two cents and take it with a pinch of salt. Having background in any martial arts won't hurt, if anything it's a plus that you already have that knowledge and a lot of the single stick actions can apply here. Be mindful that basically this is fantasy and most of it is entirely made up so any sources will never be "true", most forms borrow a lot of movements from fencing systems but they're all choreographed in the end. That being said, my recommendation would be to just go through a few UA-cam videos (there's plenty of channels out there mentioning all forms) and what you can do is try to analyse each, go through the motions of each and try to build the vocabulary from there. What I did in this video to try and replicate some resemblance of makashi would be not only the posture but a bit of mix of duelling and military sabre and apply the principles of shorter and more efficient movement that is on the description of the form itself. Hope this helps :)
When you mod a saber you're bound to make a few mistakes. Nah I'm kidding, I think it's mostly down to the glove interfering with the button to turn it on and off. The way I modded it forces me to grip it closer to the emitter where the button is located. - Rui
Sith guy fights like Count Dooku. A rapier duelist style.

Very great duel! XD waiting for my turn
Turn up then we'll duel ahahah xD
This one was fun but duel of fates was missing xD
We’re saving that one for a future occasion ;)
Wish I could find some saber training like this some place around where I live :(

Por tradição tinha de ser feito.
