A variation of the paper towel method if dealing with very small seeds like Gloxinia, is instead of spraying with water, spray with a weak hydroxide and pinch of sugar method. The hydroxide supplies extra oxygen and the sugar, a food source for small or older seeds.
Im late but when first potting monstera seeds, do we need a grow light right away or wait until they germinate and sprout? I hope I'm using the right terminology lol
Good question! Honestly the seeds don't need much light to actually germinate, but if you have a grow light, then definitely use it because it really helps get the sprouts going! 🌿
Hello with the germination domes when do you open the vent on the top? My monstera seeds has germinated and there are leaves growing. Should I open up vent or take the top off completely? Please help!
That's a WONDERFUL idea that we absolutely love! We try to make use of any additional moisture holding containers! Being able to recycle and reuse is the ultimate way of making your hobby a positive thing for the environment at the same time!
Do you have any advice on how long calathea seeds take to germinate? I planted some 30 days ago in a heated propagator and kept moist and nothing so far. But I can't seem to find anything online at all. All my others like monstera delicosa, polka dot, BOP, pothos all germinated within 2-12 days so I'm wondering if it's a fail or of just calathe seeds take much longer? I planted 15 seeds to give a high chance if at least some germinating. Temperatures been consistent and my propagator is in a north facing window so they never get direct light bit it's nice and bright all day. Their kept at a constant 74f tenprature and 98% humidity
So I can't really speak to this unfortunately, I haven't found any legitimate sources for Calathea seeds, the only batch I got was a scam from China and a lot of those scam seeds won't germinate(which is also why there isn't much information online about them) :/ But in the case that they are from a legitimate seller, they could just be more advanced- some seeds literally take 2+ months to germinate so it may just be a matter of time, it sounds like you have a good setup! The seeds that take longer will need checking in every week or so to make sure the soil is still moist, but otherwise it's basically a waiting game! Let me know how they do for you!!
The #1 rule to growing ANYTHING FROM SEED IS PATIENCE>>>>>>some seeds can take forever to germinate>>>yes batches are better as everything like friends>>>but i will say>>>>SEE THROUGH containers are key>>If i was you,>i would have used your soil container with the lid on it as my greenhouse>>>>
Got your seeds as a gift this holiday season and I am so excited to start this project!!

I use this with all tiny seeds like blueberry or honey berry or arbutus unedo
Very excited to see you've decided to start a YT channel, subbed!!! I bought some Monstera seeds from you, but I've started them yet. :)
Woohoo!! :) Just a heads up, Monstera seeds don't store well so the sooner you plant them, the better!
great vid, thanks for sharing
