Doubtless we are all probably attracted to the hobby because of our affection/fascination for trains, locos, track etc. But in my opinion, what sets your railroad apart from your peers is the seamless way in which you blend in a very natural countryside that lends your layout such an immeasurable charm. I can’t for the like of me decide whether it’s your scenics or your trains which are the star of the show but what I do know is both are very inspiration.
Thanks very much Tom, that’s very kind of you to say so. Its been quite hard to resist putting more and more track down, but I think keeping things simple has helped to create that blend between the railway and the countryside. Thanks again 😀
This video shows that model railways don't have to be sprawling boards of track and scenery to be great! I love the simple yet effective layout of this piece, and the sound really pulls it all together. Great work!!
What I really enjoy about your videos is not just the beautifully done scenery, but it SOUNDS real! I've watched layout videos that you could hear a pin drop when the trains run.
what really sets this model off is the sound effects on it, it's like your really there in the dales, watching a real live railway. Execelent modelling, one of the best i have seen on you tube. Well done.... Dave
What a great video of a fabulous layout. The soundtrack really sets it off well. And the camera angles, standing on the bridge, looking up the lane, etc, are great.
Hello again Lewis, I have just watched this video a second time and I'm amazed at the amount of detail your have incorporated in your layout and the great thing is it looks so natural. Cheers Greg
Hi Lewis! Watching your trains run by in your video today put me in mind of a WWII movie THE TRAIN with Burt Lancaster, when the Nazis were stealing a shipmment of paintings out of Paris before they retreated from the occupation!😃
Superb as usual. That was a good length of a run too. I have been binge-watching my full set of “Railway Roundabout” DVDs the last couple of days and I have developed a liking for the tank engines. I like your 50507 tank engine loco. I watched the video again with the colour to zero on my tv and my favourite part is at 5:50 looking down from the bridge. It looks like one of those old black and white British films 😁👍.
Thanks mate. There a few clips like that on UA-cam that I watch every now and then, very useful for referencing! I’ve been meaning to do a video in black and white actually in the style of those DVDs.
Hi Lewis. Superb as always. This brings back lots of memories from when I was young in the 1960s. It's really nice watching your video's as your layout blends everything together to look so lifelike and realistic. Those locomotives look fantastic with the superb weathering. As always another enjoyable video. Chris.
Your layout is awesome, love the chug-chug-chug of the steam engines. The details and effort you put into the layout are evident. Keep up the great work. Thanks for sharing. Ken
Lovely video. Made my tea break! I don't know where you are located but if you get the chance, visit Pendon. You'll find that your modelling is definitely on par.
Great video! I do like a bit of LMS. Sound quality seemed good too, nice close up shots of the coaches and their superb weathering too. Gotta love the 4f - that shot of it blasting up the hill with the freight and the nice little whistle as it went past was wonderful! I'm off to my local model rail show next weekend, hoping to get a Lima diesel, as is tradition for me every time I go there! I'm thinking of a 37, maybe a more modern livery. I'll make it look faded, and then it can be a retired mainline one, that my heritage railway saved from being scrapped.
Thanks matey. Great idea, that will look the part. Looking forward to seeing it. Do you have plans to go to any of the autumn galas over the next few weeks?
@@MouldyRaspberry not sure about any autumn galas - too late for the SVR, maybe mid hants but they don't seem to have any visiting locos?! I was looking at the GCR autumn gala with the T9 and something else. What about you?
Wonderful as per usual. Every time one of your passenger trains pulls into a station I am expecting passengers to get off it. Would love to see this in black and white.
Hello, such a pleasure to watch your videos. I wonder, as you were planning and eventually building this beautiful layout, was there an intent to make it such a delight for train watchers? And to be so photogenic? See ya next time..
Thanks Norman. At first I had no intention to post videos, as i’d already made quite a start before I filmed the first one. But I guess later on when doing the extensions I did have that in mind! Thanks matey.
Your layout looks so good! Have you thought about getting some self-adhesive LED strip lighting to put above it and give off more light for your videos? :D
Thank you. That’s a good idea, I have been meaning to add a few more bulbs. I do like the shadowy effect not having too much light gives though , almost like an early morning or evening look. Perhaps that doesn’t translate to the video as well! Thanks again mate
Thanks Martin. Mostly I ask other people if I can record the sounds from their UA-cam videos of galas etc, or just use my own recordings from video I’ve taken at heritage lines.
If you are able to get to one of the preserved lines to record steam. I use a microspeak which is sold by talking productions. It records mp3 files you can download to a PC.
A very nice looking layout, love what you have captured, and the yard details are very smart. nice work! I'm just starting out into the world of a layout, how are you finding the Kadee, couplings? Trying to workout what will be best, as I will be doing a lot of shunting on mine. I hate the look of NEM couplings, but wondering are best to have as little hands on the layout as possible.
Hi Kirk. Thanks very much! I’m very impressed with them - they offer great reliable close coupling. I’ve been cutting the magnetic pins off however, as I like the hands on approach, using a little tool to uncouple manually. You can fit magnets between the rails and have automatic uncoupling if that’s your thing.
@@MouldyRaspberry Not a problem, it oozes with atmosphere! Ah ok I see, I'm yet to explore all these options so not sure what I will settle for yet. The joys of just starting out!
Brilliant. What kit do you use to film and lighting? Had trouble with depth of field when shooting a mates O gauge layout sold most of my pro video kit. Looks as though you have some strong lighting which is good.
Thanks! I just use my iPhone 7 to film, and the lighting is B&Q energy saver bulbs spaced out around the layout. I’ve been meaning to get a few more actually as there are till a few darker spots.
Go for it! Well a good bit of advice is to make sure to do your research and use all the knowledge there is out there on UA-cam/magazines/forums. Also I would say don’t overthink things, just build what you enjoy and have fun with it!
*WOW!* First of all, how is it "new" places keep on appearing in your layout every time I watch a video! 😂 Is your loft actually located inside the TARDIS? Second, if this is the route your future videos are taking, then you'll not only have the best layout on YT but also the best running videos! Don't get me wrong, your videos were always the best, with the beautiful scenery and weathered models, plus the real sound; but now you add those cheeky new POVs and the continuity editing, and you've just got little train short-films! Bravo! 👏
Thank you! I guess I’m always just trying to find new places to wedge the camera! I do like editing the videos like this, showing each trains journey from a to b rather than random clips. Thanks again matey, appreciate it.
Thanks Nigel! It’s a hand operated signal, just one of the Hornby ones I had on my old layout that a transferred over. That’s actually the only operation signal on the layout, all the others are dummies.
