Brilliant musician, and has a slight American accent these days so I'm guessing he's based there. Easily the best Whitesnake guitarist though Bernie is great too.

Supernatural 9R It's not thag Vai was "not good enough"... He just didn't fit the band's style, Him and Adrian Vandenberg were the most AWFUL choice for this band

@Dafyd Maddz The Greatest thing about The Doug Aldrich/Reb Beach Duo is their Obvious Contrast. Doug is definitely AWESOME to rips those Sykes Agressive and Staccato licks with his les paul, while on the other side of the ring you have Reb and his liquid fluid lines of tapping. This duo was the best Live Line up the band ever had

My friend's band was rehearsing at S.I.R studios in Hollywood. We were sitting outside of the practice rooms. John came walking in the front door . He had a studded guitar strap slung over his shoulder. We told him we really like his work. He said thanks and walked into a practice room. While the door was open we saw two Marshall half stacks and Carmine Appice. Really cool. We could here them rehearsing what would be the debut Blue Murder album.

So sad.....I saw Thin Lizzy in 1983 at Masten's party venue Kristianopel Sweden. It was the tour Thunder & Lightning. John Sykes joined and played with Phil Lynott, Brian Downey, Darren Wharton. A very good gig with Sykes on guitar. Melodic and seductive feeling on his black Les Paul.
I had the privilege of talking to them after the gig. Sympathetic lovely group with a slightly drunk Lynott who still found the right tunes in his significant way! A memory for life! Superb! RIP John Sykes

with the band? I dont believe so. The way I understand it is DC had some kind of meltdown and started firing the band including Sykes. Before Sykes was cut he was able to finish his guitar solos on the album, then that was it. Pretty sad. Theres a vid of him performing Bad Boys himself which is killer btw.

If John is reading this, Phil, Gary are gone, they can't play anymore, these are dark times, we, your fans, need you you gave us more than music, great memories, hopes, inspiration, the sound on a record of a lifestyle better ours when we were first listening, all those years ago. #LetItRip

I'm 58; saw so many concerts in my life; one day I saw John Sykes, some years after Phil Lynott died, playing Lizzy songs and also doing the vocals in Germany; I thought: how could that work, first. I had the chance standing just a few meters away from him. It was the greatest musical experience I had of all my life ever and I was sceptical in the begining if he could shoulder guitar play plus Lynotts vocals . Thank you so much John Sykes for these beautiful experience .

Not to forget that the Whitesnake 87 album owes its entire guitar playing/tone, as well as co-songwriting credits for almost all songs to this guy. Sykes put Whitesnake on the map, not Coverdale. Without threat guitar tone the album would have been another Saint & Sinners or Slide It In, not the huge hit it became.

It was Metallica, RATT, Warrant, and they all sounded way different than Whitesnake did. Sykes’ co-writing made 87’ a legendary album that people hear all the time on the radio. Sykesy is legendary from Tygers Of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Blue Murder to his solo work, an instantly recognisable tone & style that is nothing short of inspirational, plus he's an underrated singer too & a great songwriter, here's hoping the 'Sy-Ops' album sees the light of day!
PS - Jason McNamara I remember you working at the old Para Music store when I was a young upstart kid, great to see a local lad come good! Welll done & keep up the good work mate 👍 Kudos

Thank you Paul. However I was from down South and never worked at Para Music. However I did work at Regent Music, Harrison's Music and Allans all in the city and also Derringers for a stint. Hope you get a chance to check out some more of my videos including Alex Lifeson, Eddie Van Halen & Steve Vai among others. I've just been lucky to have some great experiences.

I have to agree. At the end of 2019 Tony and I connected and we’ve since met up at NAMM 2020, he played on a Queen cover of We Are The Champions that’s also on my channel AND he also did an episode of my show LIVE Streams with Famous Friends called Bass Monsters that had Tony, Stu Hamm, James LoMenzo & Rudy Sarzo all together for their first time. You can find that on here as well.
But yes, I wholeheartedly agree. Tony is a wonderful and massively talented person.

@@JasonMcNamara you’re a lucky man!! Good story! I met him at a bass clinic in NJ. 15 years ago maybe? I have a bootleg video tape with very rare Blue Murder appearances on it. He didn’t have it so he gave me his personal info so I could make a copy and send it to him! Seriously, who else would do that?
