@Dafyd Maddz The Greatest thing about The Doug Aldrich/Reb Beach Duo is their Obvious Contrast. Doug is definitely AWESOME to rips those Sykes Agressive and Staccato licks with his les paul, while on the other side of the ring you have Reb and his liquid fluid lines of tapping. This duo was the best Live Line up the band ever had
My friend's band was rehearsing at S.I.R studios in Hollywood. We were sitting outside of the practice rooms. John came walking in the front door . He had a studded guitar strap slung over his shoulder. We told him we really like his work. He said thanks and walked into a practice room. While the door was open we saw two Marshall half stacks and Carmine Appice. Really cool. We could here them rehearsing what would be the debut Blue Murder album.

So sad.....I saw Thin Lizzy in 1983 at Masten's party venue Kristianopel Sweden. It was the tour Thunder & Lightning. John Sykes joined and played with Phil Lynott, Brian Downey, Darren Wharton. A very good gig with Sykes on guitar. Melodic and seductive feeling on his black Les Paul. I had the privilege of talking to them after the gig. Sympathetic lovely group with a slightly drunk Lynott who still found the right tunes in his significant way! A memory for life! Superb! RIP John Sykes
Followed John Sykes since his days with the Tygers of Pan Tang.What an amazing guitar player and song writer.I can’t believe he’s gone.Saw him with Blue Murder and Thin Lizzy live which were amazing shows.Definitely one of the top guitarist of the 80’s and 90’s but you never hear him mentioned.RIP you will be missed!

with the band? I dont believe so. The way I understand it is DC had some kind of meltdown and started firing the band including Sykes. Before Sykes was cut he was able to finish his guitar solos on the album, then that was it. Pretty sad. Theres a vid of him performing Bad Boys himself which is killer btw.

I liked Thunder and Lightning, it was new direction for Think Lizzy, but I have to say its not my favourite Lizzy Album, that honour goes to Black Rose.
I watched you in Austin Texas with Blue Murder and John you blew us away!!!!!! Great memory. My band did a cover of "Billy" and we had so much fun with that song. We miss you and look forward to your tours.
I'm 58; saw so many concerts in my life; one day I saw John Sykes, some years after Phil Lynott died, playing Lizzy songs and also doing the vocals in Germany; I thought: how could that work, first. I had the chance standing just a few meters away from him. It was the greatest musical experience I had of all my life ever and I was sceptical in the begining if he could shoulder guitar play plus Lynotts vocals . Thank you so much John Sykes for these beautiful experience .

John Sykes is the greatest lead guitar playing / lead singer of all time. He is the supreme master of tone and vibrato. The original Blue Murder lineup of Sykes, Franklin and Appice is arguably the greatest 3 piece band ever.
everyone forgets Nick Green.... the keyboard player.... he was essential to the blue murder album. without the keys it would sound like something is missing.

Not to forget that the Whitesnake 87 album owes its entire guitar playing/tone, as well as co-songwriting credits for almost all songs to this guy. Sykes put Whitesnake on the map, not Coverdale. Without threat guitar tone the album would have been another Saint & Sinners or Slide It In, not the huge hit it became.

It was Metallica, RATT, Warrant, and they all sounded way different than Whitesnake did. Sykes’ co-writing made 87’ a legendary album that people hear all the time on the radio. Here I go again, they play the 87 version more than the original. Because it’s so much better.
After I listened to Still Of The Night isoleted guitar track very closely it was crazy how many details in the riffs this guy did there and obviously in the whole album . It's a shame John Sykes is kind of underrated guitar player .
Me too, I know his cousin as I'm from John's home town Reading in England, famous for many things including the Reading Festival, Kate Middleton, Kate Winslet, Ricky Gervais who I was actually at school with but unfortunately never met John Sykes and he's heavily influenced my playing, although I did meet Gary Moore in Reading town centre a couple of weeks after Phil Lynott died.

Along with Deep Purple, John Sykes is the second name that has the most credit for David Coverdale having such a great career.. His name is mentioned in most of the songs on the album Whitesnake beside his guitar solos which was released in 1987.. This album made David Coverdale and Whitesnake a worldwide known band! (Tawny Kitaen was the 3rd name thanks for the videos!?)

I have to agree. At the end of 2019 Tony and I connected and we’ve since met up at NAMM 2020, he played on a Queen cover of We Are The Champions that’s also on my channel AND he also did an episode of my show LIVE Streams with Famous Friends called Bass Monsters that had Tony, Stu Hamm, James LoMenzo & Rudy Sarzo all together for their first time. You can find that on here as well. But yes, I wholeheartedly agree. Tony is a wonderful and massively talented person.

He didn’t have it so he gave me his personal info so I could make a copy and send it to him! Seriously, who else would do that?
I'm excited that John Sykes will be back on the road along with a new album. I hope he comes to Australia to play live. Such a massive influence for me as a youngster learning guitar. Really excited.

Really liked him in Thin Lizzy, they got so damn heavy when he joined. Thunder & Lightning(1983) was straight up Heavy Metal

I'm at the opposite end if the spectrum. I hated him in Lizzy. Lizzy weren't a metal band. It was like decorating a cake with concrete.

I first saw John with the Tygers Of Pan Tang at Hammersmith Odeon in 1981, then with Lizzy on the farewell tour in '84 - great player!
What a great guitarist, I just wish he had made more albums like the Blue Murder debut.

Sykesy is legendary from Tygers Of Pan Tang, Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Blue Murder to his solo work, an instantly recognisable tone & style that is nothing short of inspirational, plus he's an underrated singer too & a great songwriter, here's hoping the 'Sy-Ops' album sees the light of day!

Thank you Paul. However I was from down South and never worked at Para Music. However I did work at Regent Music, Harrison's Music and Allans all in the city and also Derringers for a stint. Hope you get a chance to check out some more of my videos including Alex Lifeson, Eddie Van Halen & Steve Vai among others. I've just been lucky to have some great experiences.

Tony Franklin is a great guy. I met him and talked for a long time.
I have to agree. At the end of 2019 Tony and I connected and we’ve since met up at NAMM 2020, he played on a Queen cover of We Are The Champions that’s also on my channel AND he also did an episode of my show LIVE Streams with Famous Friends called Bass Monsters that had Tony, Stu Hamm, James LoMenzo & Rudy Sarzo all together for their first time. You can find that on here as well.
But yes, I wholeheartedly agree. Tony is a wonderful and massively talented person.
@@JasonMcNamara you’re a lucky man!! Good story! I met him at a bass clinic in NJ. 15 years ago maybe? I have a bootleg video tape with very rare Blue Murder appearances on it. He didn’t have it so he gave me his personal info so I could make a copy and send it to him! Seriously, who else would do that?
