WHITESNAKE VIDEOS - Coverband fired Sykes because he was stealing the spotlight from him. Whitesnake was a C-list band before Sykes joined. If not for his contributions to the 1987 album, no one would be talking about David these days, except as a footnote to Deep Purple.
If Phil hadn't passed and Sykes could have avoided the poison that was Coverdale maybe he'd have been more productive and happy with the music scene. As is a top 5 guitarist for me.
LITTERALLY the real life version of Nigel Tufnel. A much better guitarist of course, but how FUCKING amazing would it be to have a band ask you to join and you listen to and figure out the songs when you get around to it? He's THAT good.

Yes, you're right - Sykes was gone before Vandenberg was supposed to record the 'Slip....' album - but it's my opinion that Vai wouldn't record with Vandenberg 'cos he always records all guitars by himself. His style does not suit others recording with him. I also think Coverdale agreed to this and told Adrian he couldn't play on the album. It doesn't take THAT long for a broken arm to heal!
An interview I read years ago John Kolodner stated that Sykes and Ansly Dunbar were both fired after pressuring Coverdale to hire a replacement singer, while he was recovering from vocal surgery. Notice that the other guitarist in Thin Lizzy the majority of the time, Scott Gorham made everyone who played with him sound great. Props to Scott Gorham, one of my favorites.
I like John Sykes !. He's a great guitarist !
My one my fave NWOBHM albums was the Tygers of Pan Tang's Spellbound from about 1981 - I saw John with them at Hammersmith Odeon back in the day. Great player and talent. This is the first time I saw him interviewed...I hope he cringes too if he watches this!
He should have stuck with Tygers
“I love that album Burn what David played on...”. Brilliant.
I would like to hear new music from him : )
what a pleasant guy!!! I like John
What kind of a sweater is that with a plastic banana and strawberries??
🌟Great interview‼️❗️
😉Yet, how comes, John doesn‘ t speak Posh⁉️
💛He‘ s definitely ✨Rock ‘N‘ Royalty⚜️✨⚡️🌟
gum in his 40s ?..he was in his early 20s when this interview took place....
The boy is quality. I love Whitesnake and DC, but this interview is just so, to the point and honest...bet DC, kicked his fuckin balls after this...but good on the lad, speaks it how he sees it.
Not arrogant just stoned!
Actually Vai can sing, listen to All about Eve, it's a great song :)
"Hi, I'm John Sykes the coolest guy in the world"... now I understand why Coverdale fired him! :D
WHITESNAKE VIDEOS ...hahaha...made me laugh and undoubtedly true.
badmattam david's ego is way bigger than john's lmao
WHITESNAKE VIDEOS - Coverband fired Sykes because he was stealing the spotlight from him. Whitesnake was a C-list band before Sykes joined. If not for his contributions to the 1987 album, no one would be talking about David these days, except as a footnote to Deep Purple.
I'm a Sykes fan but listening to him in this clip made me think of Spinal Tap.
Love that album Burn what David did🤣🤣
What is John Sykes doing now?
Sat on his arse for 20 years.
He might get together with Thin Lizzy & Scott Gorham for tours & projects at times.
If Phil hadn't passed and Sykes could have avoided the poison that was Coverdale maybe he'd have been more productive and happy with the music scene. As is a top 5 guitarist for me.
Let’s be glad they met tho or we’d never have the phenomenal 1987 album
Super!!
I can now understand why Coverdale got rid
Indeed. Even pub band streetfighter sacked him.
LITTERALLY the real life version of Nigel Tufnel. A much better guitarist of course, but how FUCKING amazing would it be to have a band ask you to join and you listen to and figure out the songs when you get around to it? He's THAT good.
I bet that his amps go up to eleven 😂😂
yea, john was definitely out of it lol
No, he´s 8 in this vid. He joined Whitesnake in the 60´s.
He was a baby during rocking with Thin Lizzy.
An embryo with the Tygers, and just a twinkle in his daddies eye with Streetfighter.....
Get the impression he hates Coverdale.
These go to 11 !
It's a shame David Coverdale fired him !. He helped Whitesnake become international stars !
Yes he sure did
They already were actually)) us market needs great promotion, thats what they get with that lineup
@@cornucopia8591 He wrote a lot of the material on the 1987 album. And that's the one that really made it BIG in the US.
I've always wondered if Coverdale fired him because after John ,Coverdale wasn't the most handsome guy in the band. My opinion from a girl fan point of view.
@@andreawagner7352 That's just ridiculous. Guys don't think that way, that's a female thing.
Sorry mate. Yes, you're right, it isn't a whitesnake album, it's a steve vai album with coverdale on it. I would love to have heard what a second proper sykes/coverdale ablum would have sounded like. Guess the closest we've got is the first blue murder album - do you know it? It's great.
john sykes writes or cowrites songs i can remember..i dig vai, but i def preferred sykes in snake
.
Brilliant
.
He used to be in my friends Band years ago in Accrington Lancashire, Streetfighter. Then he went away to join Pantang. The rest is history!
I live me life day by day I generally don't worry about much. 🍊
I think he was a bit older than 19. He was born in 1959. I don't think this is 1977...
An interview I read years ago John Kolodner stated that Sykes and Ansly Dunbar were both fired after pressuring Coverdale to hire a replacement singer, while he was recovering from vocal surgery. (Just about anyone of us would have axed him if he tried to have us replaced in our own band) All that being said, He does play a hell of a guitar. I like Via too, but Sykes was better for WS. But don't discount Doug Aldrich. Dude kills.
Also better ànd loyal attitude, to me.
your right. sykes was kicked out after recording of 1987.. vandenburg came in and recorded a solo for here i go again. then vandenberg got injured so steve vai recorded all the gutiars for slip
sorry John is the best hands down just the best
WTF is he sitting across the studio being interviewed like he's in a remote location?
