It is. I think I’ll use this one to learn a bit more German (the service manual is all in German). For some reason a song comes to mind ...”I get by with a little help from my friends” Get it? 😃 😃
If you would be so kind to do a demonstration video at some point on how you go about cleaning the tuning condenser I would appreciate it so much. Your videos have been amazing and a great learning experience for me. Once I take a couple soldering and circuit board classes I'm going to try and restore my Satellit 2100 as well as my 2000.
Super cool. Randomly got one thats from my boss. He would have dumped it at the disposal center. Nearly 50 years old. Thought it's surely broke somewhere, but turned it on and its working great. Can't find any defect. These days they built stuff to last. Unbelievable nowadays...
This brings back memories. Those flat top plastic electrolytics are shocking so well done getting shot of those. The different waveforms on the scope was very interesting. I don’t normally bother with that but may do in the future as it’s good to see the effect of the tone controls.
I am pleased to see that the majority of the outside case and push buttons come off separately for cleaning. Looks like this may be a walk in the park. Ready to see the next step. Thanks J K
Grundig really knew how to design a good radio back then. But the pricetag probably reflected that. It's great to see how it cleans up and returns back to it's former glory. The form factor of a portable radio is tempting when you're used to work on the big heavy radios or other units. I just finished working on 2 old reel-to-reel players, and they are not lightweight or service friendly, that's for sure.
I fully understand. I did a couple of those so far, and they are definitely not easy to handle, especially as you can seriously damage them if they get a knock or two.
It looks much better naked so to speak. I have been told a hairdryer is what is needed on stuck Grundig dial components to warm the old grease. After that it just needs washing out and replacing. I have a few of the smaller units to play with... not enough time in the day! Great video Manuel. Looking forward to part 3
This neglected little radio is really beginning to shine already. The insides are so clean compared to outside. That was quite a surprise. I was very surprised that the battery contacts were not badly corroded from leaking batteries. Maybe this set never had a battery in it. I've noticed a lot of channels get majority of views from people who don't subscribe and don't click like buttons.
Thank you so much for guiding how to remove chassis from the enclosure. I looked at many videos but none goes to this route how to undo in order to work on this radio.
Looks as clean inside as it was dirty on the outside. You're lucky the former owner didn't use batteries or the inside would look like the outside. I have a Sony multi-band boombox that is about the same vintage. It also has a car adapter jack and runs off 9 volts, but the ground is positive. Some British and Japanese cars, as well as boats and most trucks, had positive grounds back then. Don't know if Grundig did the same.
I've got a 2000 to repair somebody else has been in. HF if not working despite replacing all the 4n7 decoupling caps and the if transistors. Inputting a signal generator it's so quiet. Have checked virtually every component on a component tester. It's a very difficult one. Any ideas anybody
Manuel - Have you ever had problems getting the band selector knob to come off? I have one now and after loosening the lock screw so that the collet is able to spin freely, no matter how I try to pry the knob off, it will not budge. I've even put some penetrating oil on, no-go. Any advise?
hi,i enjoyed these videos on this radio...i bought one recently it ran for a few mins then sound died...can you please give me a list of the caps you replaced on the amp board... kind regards william.
Dear sir, I had one SAT 2100 from elder brother. Now I took it out and cleaned externally. When I put on the power the radio is sounding some times low and some times loud. I am not a electronics engineer. I would like to get changed all the capacitors. Can you provide the capacitors specs.
Minha morada é: Marina Shopping Loja 230 Av. Arriaga, 75 9004-533 Funchal Madeira, Portugal Manuel Caldeira

Any chance you can add Bluetooth to this one, think it had a DIN? I have a Grundig Concert Boy of similar construction and would love to add the functionality.
Eu estava à procura do mod.
That little interconnect for the speaker/audio dummy load is great. I may have to copy that in some form.
👍 go for it. Here’s the video: ua-cam.com/video/1WzAR91QqF4/v-deo.html
As others have said, nice easy access. What a nice radio!
It is. I think I’ll use this one to learn a bit more German (the service manual is all in German). For some reason a song comes to mind ...”I get by with a little help from my friends”
Get it? 😃 😃
Always glad to help.

Great radio … a great boss 😊

Yes, I sort of went to town on this one as I just wanted to enjoy the hobby.
Electronics Old and New by M Caldeira well worth it as they are lovely radios

many thanks i have one of these and have not been brave enough to take it apart i have no reception from the turret tunening section .
Have a look at the second video. It’s easier than you think 😊
Thank you so much
Your video is so timely. I inherited a sat 2000 from my dad who passed away last week and keen to overhaul it.
You should. It's a great radio. And my condolences.
Great video . 👍 Thank you 🎵
pleasure
my 2100 coming today FM band ok just cleaning the contakts for the KG section thx for video ON3MK
my pleasure
Better you then me! Looks like something I would not tackle...but I know you'll pull this off!!
I love challenges.

I thought of the hairdryer or hot air gun, but I was worried about all the plastic parts around the area.

I don’t think the owner of this one used batteries at all. Thank
fully 😃
@@electronicsoldandnew I hope this continues to bring good surprises. It will be a great little radio.
Thank you so much for guiding how to remove chassis from the enclosure. I looked at many videos but none goes to this route how to undo in order to work on this radio.
👍
yes, those old FRAKO caps usually ALWAYS need replacing!
I agree.
Thanks very good wark mane
great to watch. It's tempting to look at ebay but I think I have enough radios already.
One can never have enough radios 😃
Service friendly radio.
👍
Yeah, the screws are all in a good condition...... :-)
👍

I’m glad this one doesn’t have a positive ground. I really don’t like working in those systems.
Did you measure (and possibly adjust) the quiescent current of the output stage?
Not yet. Coming next.
Hello, I have no audio at all on mine. Only light comes on. Any suggestion(s) where to start? Thank you!
Those orange and violet electrolytic capacitors (I think made in Portugal) may be better to exchange them.
uppss I didn't see the whole video, sorry
No problem

Take the screw off completely. Sometimes that’s the problem.
@@electronicsoldandnew Thanks, I'll give it a go. Cheers.

All electrolytics.

O custo do envio seria exorbitante
A friend of mine has the 2000. How were the old capacitors?
They were sort of OK, but all on the high side.
