As someone who also restores vintage gear, it is an HONOR to work on something like this. Very, very rare!!! Most stuff I get is pretty clapped out and of course I will be asked to perform a miracle, but the one in a million piece, I'll gladly go way beyond to make it absolutely PERFECT! What a treat!!
What a privilege for us to see this. It’s like when you going around an ancient ruined castle or similar and part of one wishes it could be rebuilt exactly how it would have been. This radio is like this.
Encore MERCI, Merci, merci . Cordialement
Wow! People often overuse (abuse!) the word 'mint' but this one deserves it!!! Thanks for this great video and also your (two) superb series on the 2100.
That radio belongs in a museum! Really rare to come across something in such mint condition. Wow!!! I've bought a Satellit 2000 a few months ago, but it's at the other end of the spectrum 😊
Amazing you can still get a huge amount of SW broadcast stations over by Europe and Asia! In the states we don't get much beyond time stations and amateur radio. We might get a couple religious shortwave broadcasters in the eastern US but I live in Utah, nothing makes it here. Over in the Europe seems like people get SW with just groundwave propagation, like MW!! They don't even need atmospheric skip, since everything is so close together there. And the sheer number of broadcasters is astonishing. It sounded like he was tuning through the MW band rather than SW!! Amazing! We get static here, if one happens to enjoy static.
Yes, if you listen to short wave over here, you wonder what people are talking about when they say that the stations are dying out. As you say, we are in close proximity to a lot of the Asian countries that do reach their emigrant populations using shortwave.
That thing is beautiful !! I wish they still made lusty things like that, there's so little beautifully designed devices anymore.. I have a theory about why that thing survived like it did and my theory goes as follows,,, that FM switch broke when it was new and it never got repaired,, it got returned and/or just sat undisturbed somewhere for decades,,, that's my theory..
Thank you very much for this video. I still have a Grundig C6000 which I inherited from my father. He told me once that back in the 70s in the radio shop he had to choose between the C6000 and a Satellit 2000 (2100?). He chose the C6000 because it had a very desirable feature which was the cassette recorder. With hindsight, I think he regretted it a little and would have preferred the Satellit instead. Thanks again for your very nice video, I was thinking about what it would have been like if Rudi had bought the Satellit :-) .
Manuell, your BFO may not be an original SSB kit, but you can use it on most AM shortwave receivers not to mention having generated an informative video.
Here’s the link to the first video in the series: Is this the Ugly Duckling? Grundig Satellit 2100 restoration part 1. ua-cam.com/video/4eCZVxa2GhI/v-deo.html
Why didn't they use a MC1496 in the SSB Adapter as a MC1496 demodulates SSB but would need a few extra components i.e the oscillator connection to certain pins on the chip.
Such a shame that the Grundig brand doesn’t exist anymore, nor does Philips (except for their medical branch), Nordmende, Saba, Loewe, and more jewels to the crown of the German electronical industry. Btw the dial cord of my Satellite 2001 is stuck, you don’t happen to know a colleague in Belgium who can repair it?
It is difficult. However, sometimes people break these apart and sell the parts off piecemeal. That’s about the only way to get these components if you really need them.
Senhor Manoel bom dia !!
Sounds like you got R2D2 on the 20 meter band 😊 I found my damned shorted cap. Well hidden insiste the FM section right after the B+ resistor. Thats what was smoking that resistor. I need to replaced it now and check if works or smokes some more.

I have the same experience. There is a challenge to bringing back to life something that’s completely knackered, but this one was pure joy to work on.
Amazing condition. I had to pay a fortune for my SSB unit on eBay, but it does work well and like you I made my own before finding one.
Yes, those units are really expensive. They sometimes cost more than the entire radio.
I have a 2100 in VG condition but nothing like this. I use mine all the time so I really appreciate what you have here.
👍

I agree. It was quite an experience.

Pleasure 👍
Tienes mi like bien ganado
Gracias 🙏
Good things come to those who deserve them! This radio through time found its right caretaker! 🎉
😊 thank you

My pleasure
I'm glad I found your channel. Always very entertaining and informative....
Glad to have you on the channel. Enjoy it.
I thought my 1400 SL Pro was in good conditon when I got and classed it as excellent, but this..... I am jealous. This is perfection.
I agree, radios like this are one in 1 million

I've bought a Satellit 2000 a few months ago, but it's at the other end of the spectrum 😊
I understand. The first one I did was terrible 😊
Wanna buy a 2000 got one here £30
@shackwishprice6924: I have one, but somebody else here may be interested.
What a beauty! ☝
👍
Cool! Bought and re-sold one of those in the early 90's. at the flea market. Great radio!
It really is.

congrats on this beautifull radio
Thanks 😊
Wouldn't mind having that jewel....
Same here 😊
Wow ! What a privilage to work on such a beautiful radio !
Cheers Manuel
Absolutely! Really enjoyed it.
That is absolutely stunning. I'm well jealous!
😊

I can understand the attraction of the cassette deck back then. Who could have guessed that it would become extinct? 😊
What a beautiful radio!
👍
Amazing
Thanks 😊
Excellent work! A museum quality set, and I'd be terrified to work on it!
I was a little intimidated, but the excitement of working on this radios quickly overcame the fear.

I do use it on other radios, which is indeed an advantage. I was actually quite surprised at how well it worked
Greetings from Cape Town. What a nice radio.
Dankie. 😊
Gorgeous radio - I think I'll have to go and have a lie down for a bit.
😊
I Really like 👍 these more sophisticated radios 📻. I’m wondering 💭 if this does Shortwave, or if ya can DX with it. Your friend, Jeff.
Absolutely. The main feature of the radio is that it picks up the entire shortwave band very well.
Even the electrons inside are brand new 😃
And the protons too 😊
Thanks for that very informative. I just found one of these covered in dust so with Google search found your video. Not sure what to do with it now.
Check out the first series on the satellit on my channel. That one was also in terrible condition, and turned out very well.
@@electronicsoldandnew I was looking but didn't find it. What's the title? 🤔

The BFO that beats it... you had me really cackling there. :-)
Sometimes double meanings come out of my mouth with no thought at all 😊
Just in case anyone might be restoring/cleaning one of these: don't use IPA when cleaning the tuning scales! I learned that the hard way :(
Nope. That’s a tough lesson to learn 😊
Every Grundig I had broke 😢
Why didn't they use a MC1496 in the SSB Adapter as a MC1496 demodulates SSB but would need a few extra components i.e the oscillator connection to certain pins on the chip.
Good old days...
😊
Thanks for this vedio.Did you feel the earthquake that struck Marrakesh, Morocco?
No, we didn’t feel anything on Madeira. They did feel it on mainland, Portugal, but very weak.
In mind condition i put on clove's when touching stuff.
Not a bad idea
My SW tuner seems to stop halfway as I move the dial. Something is blocking it....Dont' know what causes it..Bot FM and LW dial work fine...
You’ll have to open it up and look for something that may have fallen into the mechanism.
You need to be careful. Your wife hearing you having such raptures may think you are cheating on her🤣
Absolutely correct. She’s already jealous of some of my radios as it is.
Lol

I agree that these great brands are missed. Unfortunately I don’t know who could repair that cord for you in Belgium
The chance to find part such as volume control switch for these radio is next to remote!
Maybe RetroTechRestaurations (a UA-cam channel a bit like this)?
It is difficult. However, sometimes people break these apart and sell the parts off piecemeal. That’s about the only way to get these components if you really need them.
I am quite aware of the channel 😊 in fact, I’m a subscriber of his, and he is a subscriber of mine.

I got this radio last week im glad that the germany scientists made the best ever i was wondering if u can send me the schematic diagram
It’s available at nvhr.nl

You can have my mine 😢😢fix it 😅😅
Y b 400 😢
That’s why they went bankrupt 😂😂
