Sir you don,t YAK on but you pass on knowledge which helps me understand , Remember knowledge is power as a school teacher of mine once said , Thanks for the videos you are one hell of an Electronic Engineer , Take care no one has a life to spare
Thankyou very much for your very good tutorials on this radios. I have two of them. One in very good working condition and another recently bought very cheap as a non-working radio. This video and the others helped me very much in locating a shorted filter capacitor (C656) on the powerboard on this radio. This makes it inoperable on both AC and DC. With the help of your videos I think it also should be up and running soon. I also have "professional" receivers Drake SPR-4, ICOM IC-R71E and Kenwood R-5000. The radiostations you can catch with these radios is mostly caught with the Grundig but with superior audio. The FM band on the Grundig is also very impressive.
A good bit of detective work Manuel. Also thanks for showing the strip down procedure in such detail. Very helpful for future reference. Those switches can be very tricky and have caught me out on many occasions. Onto part 3 now. Cheers Graham
Very well explain, thank you very much, I try to take that part for some time, now I know, the only thing to get right volume control for this 3400, could you help me please , inthat audio amp section baiance and tone is OK, voline control is problem, could you tell me where and what volume control I could replace.
Another nice restauration, Manuel! I have restored a Grundig Satellit 3000, which looks almost identical to yours both inside and out, except mine is silver on parts of the cabinet. Mine had a couple of switch levers broken also, and a broken shaft for the BFO control. I found this to be a minor concern, I listen to the ham bands (but have better gear as well..) Mine had a jammed drum tuner, one of the dial plates was loose, easy fix. Apart from this and the usual cleaning of controls I had a switch lever I could put in (the "ANL" is still missing, but not important..
hello, my name is romeo, I live in Romania, please tell me how I could change the speaker on the Grunding Satellite 3400 radio, I don't know how to remove the front panel to get to the speaker
Nice Video Sir! Really looking forward to the alignment-part...havent done that on mine so far. The AM is ok but I think the FM IF is off because the station-frequency and the reading on the counter dont match...🧐
The power/amp board looks a bit difficult to work on. I'm a bit like you in not trying to remove wires if possible. I'm pleased to see that those broken switches are only cosmetic damage and I'm sure you'll do a great job in repairing those. I would still like to own one, seen one for £100 and another for £200 excluding postage. They both look clean externally. Your videos were excellent for the 2100 and we save the 3400, should I buy one.
I’m sure a plan can be made. Stefan from Germany says he has spares, and Rod from Ireland actually had his daughter 3-D print some switch levers. This hobby is becoming more like an underground movement than a social media community 😊
Manuel, may I aks what capacitor did you used as a replacement for the large 4700µF, 25V Capacitor on the power board? This form factor doesn't exist anymore and I can't find one with a similar raster size either. Is the only way an axial cap with a bent down minus pole?
No, O I used a normal radial cap, and just connected the “+” and “-“ to the proper points. The existing one has various ground (or case) tags that served to add stability to the cap, but with the newer and smaller caps, you don’t need to worry about that.
Hi there, I have a Grundig satellite 3000 which is the same as the satellite 3400, but with mine one, I need all the wave bands realigned and the bandwidth switch needs changing and the presets buttons need changing on the FM, also I would like the SW drum tuner cleaned and refurbished on the contacts. I live in the UK could you give me an estimate of the repairs? Thank you for your help, Kamil Mustafa
Good video! Question- does anyone know where to get any knob replacements? My radio is almost restored but missing 3 knobs, power and the same two as this video. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
If shipping to Madeira from the UK and back was cheap I'd happily ship you my old German tube radios to restore and add your buzz free internally powered Bluetooth module.
Max Grundig was the Best... But, in the later 80's he lost Control. He said: everything in new Technologie is bad.. VHS Cass ... is bad. I'am from NORDMENDE, Bremen... ( Becks Beer) . It was the same Thing....😦
The way the switch contact positions are shown, makes me dizzy! From the diagram I can't make out if switches A, B and X are interlinked or separate. :-(
You can just hear the conversation of the designe engineers .hows that control board going bill yer good .look undo four screws and it's out. The outer guy shakes his head .no that's to easy hide one of the mounting screws under a hard to get at plastic clip .that you need to assess from the front.thats hidden under another circuit board .

This radio is considered a top performer, I'm pretty sure you will make it even better!
I hope so :)
Sony and Grundig's engineers were the best at the time. Very competent design and excellent work of the devices.
👍
I love watching your videos. Very methodical approach.

Exceptionally educational video! Learning and being entertained at the same time .. a bliss watching!
Good to know. Enjoy.
Its nice when you have some friends. That schematic makes it alot easyer :) thanks for the video!
pleasure
You are good at fixing radios
This is a switch-hell. Much more then most old tube-graves. But very interesting. Waiting for the next part.
👍
Quite a machine, so far so good, well done Manuel🙂
thanks

Excellent and instructive as usual.

thank you very much and have a nice day
Tantalum..? Never heard of those before..! Looks cool, it's a wonder how they design these things.. Interesting project..😀Ed..UK.

I’m looking forward to that part too. It’s tedious but interesting.

I think when you see this thing working you’ll definitely want one 😊
hola
Seguí los pasos.
Yo estaba igual y todo exactamente lo mismo-
Logre los mismos resultados satisfactorios.
Muchas Gracias
Hi Manuel, if you don't have spares I wonder if you could fabricate new switch extensions from aluminium stock? 🤔
I’m sure a plan can be made. Stefan from Germany says he has spares, and Rod from Ireland actually had his daughter 3-D print some switch levers. This hobby is becoming more like an underground movement than a social media community 😊
Quite a task ahead, but I know you won't drag this out with 11 video's; unlike J.L.!
😊

I don’t do this professionally, but rather as a hobby on my projects.

Do a search on ebay
Thank You. I have one 3400 with poor performance......
Hi Manuel, Did you completely disassemble the AC mains/battery switchover unit to clean or simply sprayed the contact cleaner over?
Spraying is enough Disassembling the switch block is not fun 😊
@@electronicsoldandnew Got it, thx!

German / English service manual, if you can fined the German manual for this set it could be a help in Translating other German manuals into English.

Yes, it takes some studying to get it all clear. On the switch diagram, it tells you what position the schematic is drawn as.
