  • Sorry guys- made an error while I was speaking here. I accidentally said “orgo 2 and physics 2” first semester of sophomore year. That was supposed to be “orgo 1 and physics 1” - the text is the correct information :)
    Hello guys!
    Welcome back to my channel. My name is Ariella, and I make videos about my life as a second year medical student in the United States.
    Today I'm sharing with you my recommended courses if you're a Premed student, and some options for how you can adjust your schedule to accommodate for the MCAT. At the end of the video I created a visual for the different schedule options that you can screenshot and keep with you for future referencing. I hope this video helps you out, and as always, if you have questions feel free to leave them below or DM me on instagram. I'd be happy to help!
    I'll see you all in the next one!

    My situation is really weird. I got my A.A. degree at a community college and took a bunch of music courses but also some science courses, then I got sick and wasn't able to continue school for nearly 10 years (I tried about 3 years after finishing my A.A. but crashed and burned as I still wasn't healthy). So I'll be coming back to school after a really long hiatus and I have no idea whether I should retake all those basic science classes since it's been so long or what. It's a unique situation. But I'm not giving up. This has been my dream for so long and I'm going to be a doctor or die trying.

      also, it’s possible that med schools may have a certain time frame that you’re credits should be completed (like within ten years), so I would double check some websites!

  • @faizshakoor4085

    i claimed AP credit for psych, but since its more often recommended than required, do you think it's worth it to take another psych class to satisfy the requirement? (I'm currently a second-semester freshman)

    • @Yella7879
      @Yella7879  3 роки тому

      I think AP credit would count for the psych recommendation! I say if you can fit it into your schedule, psych is a really cool subject that will actually help you a lot on the MCAT, but if not don’t worry about it too much!

  • @annabelleking2571
    @annabelleking2571 3 роки тому

    also, for taking the MCAT... if you were to stick to the normal schedule of taking biochem in the fall of your junior year, would you recommend taking the MCAT that following spring? that might've been your point C, i'm just not sure. so, can you still take it your junior year in the spring without taking any prior summer classes because by the time you take it you'll have all your prereqs done? hope that makes sense, i worded it very strange lol!

    • @Yella7879
      @Yella7879  3 роки тому +2

      yes! I'd recommend trying to lighten your schedule that semester if possible, because studying for the MCAT takes about as much time as a normal college course in my opinion :)

    hi this is such a good video. i am considering minoring, and majoring and i need some advice. i am a pre med majoring in psychology starting this fall (bachelors of science) which i will be taking four semesters of science classes later on, this fall i will not be taking any sciences since i am a freshman and i have pre requisites and i have to take a first year seminar. The pre health professions minor has more science courses options like microbiology, genetics, anatomy, vertebrae physiology lecture and lab, biochemistry lecture and lab I and II and many more. i’m not sure if i should minor because of the heavy course work but i plan to take my MCAT in my junior / or summer before my senior year. But the science classes would help me understand more MCAT material, and help for med school in general. what do u recommend! thank u!

    • @Yella7879
      @Yella7879  3 роки тому +1

      I think this is probably a little more complicated than what I can help with in a youtube comment, you should definitely talk to your premed or psych advisor to help you manage what classes are going to be the best for you!! Those classes sound like some will be very helpful for the MCAT (microbio, genetics, biochem), but some others are not as applicable to the test (anatomy, vertebrae)

    I’m about to enter my junior year and just decided to become premed, I’m behind on classes and haven’t taken any sciences. Do you think I’m a lost cause? Any advice?

    • @Yella7879
      @Yella7879  3 роки тому +1

      definitely not a lost cause :) I have a friend who graduated college with no medical pre-reqs, they ended up doing a masters program to get those requirements! Reach out to your school’s premed advisor for more specific advice :)

    will schools take applied calculus? i am going to be majoring in medical sciences and the curriculum it follows suggests applied calculus, but i'm not sure the difference between applied calc and normal calc?

    • @Yella7879
      @Yella7879  3 роки тому +1

      I believe they will accept any level or form calculus! but definitely check with a premed advisor or a specific school to make sure
