I've been wrenching for 45 yrs and when vehicles with VVT were introduced I jumped in and learned all about it. i was curious on the differences were. Same chit different times. Thanks for video and now I'm a subscriber.
Just want to say i RODE the new vvt M8. Its INSANE. The torque and power is crotch rocket like. However i will say the power curve is synthetic feeling… and almost kinda unpredicatble since the VVT and ecm is self learning during every ride. Just something to think about.

Yea I’m not a fan either I get RD part of it but all this crap on bikes hell don’t need it in cars little long motorcycles but it’s not going to matter anyway when HD brings out the new and improved Live Wire Road and Street glide in a few years for all the Rat tree huggers
I've had 3 Fords with the 5.4 and 4.6 on my current one 2009 5.4 3v the vvt complete timing sets has been replaced twice in 250,000 miles and doesn't run better than the 5.0 without the vvt system, if any gains are touched it is fuel economy not power by any means , just more components to fail for a 15% mpg gain
Variable valve timing has been a thing on cars and other motorcycles for a good while now. With stricter EPA and Euro emissions HD really has no choice if they want to make any real power out of a mostly air cooled motor. They are really trying to stave off a redesign to a dual overhead cam liquid cooled motor for the traditional models. It's the right move for them to go the VVT route.
Yea it might be the right move however we all know they can't make a quality cam plate, compensators, cam chain tensioners...They love to sell bikes with crazy crank run out, removing Timken bearings, needle bearings, weak oil pumps that cant scavenge properly...They must stop making sloppy engines and get their shit together before trying anything new.
Yea Honda, Toyota not HD...Hell they can't make a proper cam plate or oil pump and it's driven with a crank with crazy run out and now they are going to bolt extra shit on it...They must stop making sloppy engines before bolting new stuff on to areas of the engine that have never been properly manufactured.
Harley is gonna keep on improving the product until they finally can't give them away!!!! We ride Harleys because they are....were Harleys!!!! If you don't understand what I mean then you aren't a "Harley" rider!!!
Sort of agree with you there - my 2010 Streetbob is rebuilt with a CVO topend reworked to 113 , welded crank and lots of S&S stuff but crucially a ThnderHeart ignition without vacuum advance and a Mikuni HSR48 carb. I just wanted to remove all the power-sucking EPA shit as bikes are not subject to emmisions testing (yet) here in the UK.

Very little oil pressure, and by that they mean absolutely none. This is one of the most warrantied bikes I've ever seen. I don't know why but they starve for oil, and burn up. I think it's the center bolt not having big enough holes. Some people have had no problems with them. Some people have had to have tons of warranty work done.
@@0hi0hdmc I worked at a bar that was on property of the US's largest Harley dealer in Daytona. It was the most warrantied bike, and has to still be... the garage guys would bike about it. And the customers would come in saying they couldn't get an answer... variable valve timing is garbage. Displacement on demand is garbage. Cam, crank, valve open for the cylinder space, close. I don't know how the CVO's aren't lemons to be honest
@@Jbainbridge5 I agree that’s why I was happy to see the new ones with the 117. Just like everything I’ll wait a year for the dust to settle. I really want a new road glide, but I can wait
Thanks for the shout out! Honored you shared the video.

I'm pretty sure my 150cc Chinese scooter had a VVT and I had nothing but problems with that thing.
Ask ANYONE with a 5.4 triton what they think about VVT…… I’ll wait ⏰
😂 nice

Exactly! The system SUCKS!

Very interesting. We shall see 5yrs later if they implemented this properly and not like the twin cam fiascos
Time will tell!
My 2023 just popped up an error code for the vvt solenoid.

They've had dual overhead cam designs before.
The first VVT car was in 1980 and was generally adapted by 1995 for imports...Honda, Toyota and so on...

I can imagine buying a 107 inch FXLR and waiting for availability of a 121 inch VVT crate engine. Oh yeah - Z
Is all this bs necessary? just more garbage to fail. I'll leave my 117 as is.

Dealer I worked for last year sold three, two of them came back more than one time. Same as the pan-americas
