This is the best motion tracking tutorial I have watched so far. You managed to explain and demonstrate it in under 10 minutes, and you even included the files for us to try it ourselves! Thank you so much.
That was so clear and easy to follow. You explain every step of the process, properly covering what the settings do instead of just hurriedly clicking on them. Thank you for this. Much appreciated.
you explain like blender guru in detail....i have seen other youtuber just explaining as if we know the particular feature already / or they talk really fast which is difficult to understand sometime....Thanks ,very good tutorial
Sir, this video didn't just help in some way. It's brilliant made! Thank you very much. I didn't expect something that clearly. - I hope it will work for me too. 🙂
Blender looks fun to track in. I have only ever used Boujou and Maya to get this stuff done.. Need to look more into Blender.. still more complicated than Boujou but i like that its an all-in-one package software.
Great tutorial mate, used it alongside a few others on how to do reflections, and jerry rigged some masks up + watery reflection catcher, made a tower on a lake shot. Your tutorial was the easiest to follow that I ended up needed. Really well put together Twan, thank you!!!
Thank you very much for this material. I dream of making a 3D object in Reality Capture of the bridge model and then inserting it into the drone video where this bridge is to be built.
Thanks! Tracking in AfterEffect is indeed way easier. Recently found a free method of transferring the aftereffects tracking data into blender, thinking of making the next video about that ;)
That is, in order to make a VFX video, I will need to output a render of sequence frames from Blender and then add these frames to the video by compositing?
Okay, so here's one of many places I"m getting tripped up: how do I place the 3D object where I want it in the scene? When I add it in, it automatically goes into a certain spot and moves very nicely in tandem with the footage. When I try and move it to another spot, suddenly all the tracking is off and inaccurate. How can I keep the tracking on point but set the object where it needs to be? Also, my version (3.5) has no controls for the shadow catcher. I chalk that up to Blender's programmers being constitutionally incapable of leaving anything where it was in the previous version. I don't know if they realize how infuriating that rapidly gets.
In the motion tracking workspace, after your track, did you press "set as background" and "setup tracking scene"? To use a shadow catcher (even in Blender 3.5) you'll need to make sure that you're in the cycles render engine.
@@twanoligschlaeger Yes. I did everything every tutorial says to do. After lots of fiddling, I got it to work, though regrettably I don't remember what exactly made the difference, which is unfortunate, since it's still not exactly where it should be altitude-wise, so I'll need to do it again. Thanks on the shadow catcher issue, though. Blender's programmers seem to love making things needlessly difficult.
@Corn_Pone_Flicks if you really need precise positioning. You can add tracking markers as empties. Once that is done you can select the marker in the layout screen then press Shift S, select cursor to selected. That will place the cursor exactly where the marker is, then when you add anything to the scene it will be added at that position. Keep in mind that it's origin point is what gets centered with the 3d cursor so may have to move up or down but you will have a reference position of the 3d cursor.
how do i make the ground transparent but capturing the shadow and the color bounce of my model, because in my video the floor is a little bit reflective (the shadow should be alittle bit red)
At 4:54 after solving, I see no crosshairs in Blender 4.2 How do I enable those crosshairs to be seen? I saw them before in my previous projects, but not now.
I get that it's easier and more convenient to have sharp frames with minimal motion blur and perhaps deep depth of field. But what do you if you're doing vfx for an action motion picture? Shutter is 1/48s and dof can be very shallow. What to do? :)
hi thx for the video. I still have a problem. So, when i am at 6:40, then i can't chose eves or cycles. If i use that one, then everything except the 3d thing disappears!!! If i want to render it i also only see the 3d model and not the video :((
Amazing! But I still having problems when i Try to select 3 trackings as floor. My layout doesent shows the vertices and doesent matchs the scene. How can I solve this problem?
I have a strange error. When tracking, it works perfectly, extremely low error and visually it matches PERFECTLY in the viewport. However, when i go to the CYCLES RENDER preview, it is extremely glitchy and my object in the scene jumps around as if poorly tracked. Reapeating: There is NO issue with the tracking, no issue with the viewport showing a great tracking with the object in it. HOWEVER, when I go to the CYCLES rendering preview, the track looks very bad. Any ideas?
for some reason when i add the plane and set as floor it is tracked, but at a totally wrong rotation. The y axis acts like the z axis, anyone know how to solve this?
Any way to resize the 3 panels you used in the video mine are super small I can drag to the left but that just makes the options bigger which I can already see however the column options on the left are super small
Really good video and explanation!! I did the camera tracking by choosing the 8 markers manually, do you know why the angles of the background are a little rounded? Only by watching through the camera, during the motion tracking they are sharp. The error rate is 0.11pixels
Why do you add an object in cycles and you see the shadow without doing anything, but I create a sphere and it doesn't cast a shadow? I have done all the steps with Cycles and Shadow Catcher and it doesn't work... There is a jump when you go to Cycles and add the light that I can't understand.
how to animate jaxxa lunar lander ( slim) using live data from the landing on moon? data x,y and z and roll rates ( as angular velocity) maybe 50 or so data points over last 50m descent
It's a bit frustrating that such an `easy` scene with full of easy-to-track patterns, grids and dots, perfect rectangle shapes, etc. is so hard for Blender to track. You click so many buttons and adjust many parameters but it still can't track a single point from clip start to end. I think this is unacceptable for a pro software like this. I expected a better tracking performance.
@@benomotions No. I won't be thankful for a program that doesn't help me do the job just because it's free. Your logic is wrong. There are TONS of free apps out there that can't do it's job. Are you thankful for those too?

you need a highshutter speed otherwise your footage has motion blur and a video with motion blur isn't trackable. if you want to add motion blur after tracking in the edit, thats no problem.
