- The Petite-Mobile was a small civilian mobile suit used for construction work on the Moon. Because of its use, the suit was much smaller than military machines and due to the open seat cockpit in its torso, wearing spacesuit was required. Despite the machine was not intended for combat, it could be equipped with a small mega particle cannon. A EFF's Petite-Mobile equipped with extra armor and hyper beam gun was seen at the Earth Federation's Torrington base in U.C. 0096.

I'm honestly surprised we didn't see more Mini Mobile Suit action. They seem perfect for ground warfare. Imagine ground soldiers boosting around with these in the jungles of 08th MS Team, or boosting around with them during Operation Odessa and providing ground support for larger MS.
Excoskelen as I point out is very simliar.
@@gerogyzurkov2259 Actually they'd be pretty terrible in ground combat since a lot of power and engineering has to be dedicated to keeping the thing upright in atmosphere. A tank of equal mass would have more weapons and armor, just look at the Wiesel, and jump boosters would eat up a ton of space, just look at the Byarlant Custom (so much mass dedicated just to enable it to fly). In space though they'd be pretty lethal since they don't have to deal with gravity you can pretty much have a suit just built around a gun and a thruster, which is pretty much a Ball.

@@terencenguyen3814 the federation already has Anti Mobile suit weapons in cities, as well as dedicated teams using the Regina. It's the reason why Zeon couldn't have a solid stronghold in SEA during the war.
@@aaronluisdelacruz4212 Yes, but now imagine that a pod with two missile tubes (Think something similar to the TOW missile tubes on the Bradley IFV) carrying the upscaled anti-MS Regina missiles is mounted onto a Petite MS, like the Petite Mobile in the video, or like the Draken series we see in 0080. You get the benefit of the Regina ATGM's capabilities, but with a much faster pack-up and leave procedure after firing, since there isn't a whole team that has to pack up a launcher onto jeep and then relocate. It can just fire, hit or miss, cut the wire guidance and then run to a new position, fire again, hit or miss, then retire from the field for a reload. Assuming it survives. And presumably, they'd be organized around the 4 element team like everything else is in the federation. Add a machine-gun as well, in case they run into opposing infantry. Optional arm mount in place of the missile tubes could be a 20mm or 25mm autocannon so they can be a light vehicle killer and infantry support.
Would be cool to have a kit of these, maybe as a multipack

0:19 The Marasai was supposed to be given to the AEUG by Anaheim Electronics but the latter gave it to the Titans instead as appeasement because they're sussing them out for supporting the AEUG.

More like Haruka Takachiho's vision, since he was the one who suggested the idea of 2.5 meter robots to Sunrise. Same with the Beam Saber.
Tomino's vision was always a large mecha, although power suits were an inspiration at some point. Tomino sketched a fair amount of the concepts for zeon MS and you could tell they were always meant to be mecha and not power armor.
@paranoidpanzerpenguin5262 This. If I recall correctly, one of Tomino's earlier proposals for the show had the Gundam (it was still called the Gunboy at this point) be 10 meters. And in the 1998 Gundam Memorial Box, he brought up how he was the one who suggested 20 meters when the 2.5 meter power suit idea was dropped, and even had to make a sketch that visualised what a 20 meter tall mech would look like (remember, most mecha in the 70s by that point were clocking in at 50-100 meters so going all the way down to 20 meters would've been a tough sell).
The uniform white colour scheme was also a suggestion from Yasuhiko, not Tomino, who also came up with the red/white/blue tricolour when the idea was shot down.

この時代のビーム火器はE-CAPシステムだから
本体は火器をドライブさせる電力しか要らない。
だからゼータとかも出力20mwクラスのビームランチャーが撃てる。
だからモビルスーツのジェネレーター出力なんて設定自体に意味が無い。
それ以前に、核融合反応炉の電力出力がkwレベルなんて
どんだけ発電力の低い核動力なんだよって話。

It's kinda funny how many people often claim that these technologies would forever remain as Sci-fi, but as Issac Asimov said, Today's science fiction is tomorrow's scientific fact. The only problem hindering the development of real world Mecha is real world practical use and how to implement them into our society. Tanks and fighter planes have already proven their use in the battlefield. There really isn't any need for a giant robot using the same combat tactics a normal sized human soldier would use. Construction and exploration would be the most realistic outcome for mecha in the real world. Unless AMBAC does exist in real life, meaning limbs in Mecha have a real practical use like with mobile suits, combat military mecha won't really have a chance in real life.

Surprisingly capable for something that small. Kinda wish there were more of them. Maybe some that are more geared up for fighting with missile pods and mines, or can transform into a motorcycle or something.
If I'm not mistaken old school Macross had transforming Motorcycle Mechs that were effectively Power Armor. So that idea has been explored before

Actually, if the Gundam was based under Power Armor...
Petite Mobile was much ideal concept for such idea.
And, if Petite Mobile can take some reference hint from Starship Troopers or Warhammer 40K, they can be ideal for elite troops against mecha units.

@@lathe2272小さすぎるとそれそれで積める動力源の出力が低くなります。
そうすると装甲や兵器もたいしたものは積めません。
なので動力源自体を小型化する技術的ブレイクスルーで機体のコンパクト化が実現するのと、単純に動力源を大型化して出力を向上し機体も大きくなる、というのを現実の兵器も繰り返しています。
I only recently discovered these things, but I love them. We need more junior MS. Londo Bell has one called the Zuck, but that’s pretty much it.

There is, though they are only made for the civilian market as racing mobile suits. Kakarot197 talked about it in his channel and sadly, the novel is only in Japanese.

Honestly, it's weird to have suits that small and still wielding beam weaponry, since the whole justification for why mobile suits are as large as they are is because of the Minovsky reactor taking up so much volume.
Edit: I just remembered that E-Caps are a thing by that time. That solves the power draw problem.
It's probably a low capacity laser, lets remember that MS laser guns are capable of one shotting ships like the Musai-class and the Salamis-class battleships.
@@bluewingedknight7762 They actually all use particle beam weapons, if I remember right some canon thing confirms that laser weapons exist but are basically useless because everything is made in such a way that renders them useless but I forget exactly why I'd assume it's probably that stuff is made in a way that disperses the heat from them or something like that.
the weapon has it's own power source, which is why it's almost as big as the wielding Petite-Mobile.

@@gerogyzurkov2259 The key tech that Zeon never quite managed to duplicate in the OYW was the feds' beam weapon "magazines". Later fed suits went back to powering beam weapons directly from the suit reactors (which had grown exponentially more powerful) but at the time what made feddie beam weapons special wasn't just the miniaturization (which zeon quickly copied) but that they were self-powered. So feddie mobile suit beam weapons of the early UC era could be put into service by things like the petit-mobile or on conventional vehicles (you can see a few tanks with beam rifles mounted to their turrets in various materials).

四肢のある作業用重機は一年戦争当時にはあったって事になる
もともとこういう小型の作業用がMSの原点で、それを軍用にするにあたって大型化したのがジオンって設定があります。
ただ、オリジンなどではMSの開発史が異なり、モビルワーカーの時点で結構な大型重機だった事になってるようですが。

These suckers don't get used enough in Gundam.
Mini ms didnt have the operational time in space to be viable on a large scale and were too underpowered and not cost effective. What we do see is they play a role similar to Patlabor like in 0080 as police units.

In all honesty mini suits would be more suited (pun not intended) for infantry support. However seeing how mini suits can take down a mobile suit they could actually replace tanks if heavier versions were made. The guys in these small suits must have balls of the size of Jupiter. It's the equivalent of going into a full-blown tank battle while riding in a farm tractor with a bazooka attached to it.
You may very well take out a tank, but your chances of going home alive are rather small.

That moment when even the tiny civilian forklift thingies have beam guns but your military elite are still using old junk that was already outdated during the last war.
These things make much mroe sense than full size ms in ground combat.
I always wondered what that lil thing was in the Unicorn clip. I thought it was some sort of Power Armor which I guess isn't that far off.
I could see those having a use in combat, especially in defensive operations, as mobile gun platforms. It is easier to use cover for these than mobile suits and it doesn't require as large a trench or tunnel complex that mobile suits do. I also expect that they are easier to operate than full size designs and cheaper to make.

Honestly Petite MS kinda ruin Gundam for me a bit. They are a lot ore grounded and just kinda call more attention to how silly MSs are. Love their designs but feel they'd be more at home in Patlabor
i dont think the P-Ms are capable of doing what a typical MS can do, at most it looks like they are purely weapon carrying platforms for defensive use on the ground near bases, remember that the Zaku series are made to take down entire battleships in space combat

They really worked hard to create something that was somehow more of a death trap than the Ball
Less of a deathtrap, the pilot actually can get out of the suit as the Hizack tried to kick it and provided it doesn't hit their life support, they can land safer than a ball
