  • As we dive deeper into the demolition phase, certain tasks begin to slow down progress. It’s almost as if the ambulance is resisting the process or at least putting up a fight. It even feels that way too as Tiff gets a little banged up while removing the shelf. This portion of the demolition is full of hard lessons and setbacks that have caused delays to our build as our time with a workshop keeps ticking away.

Been working on my ambulance conversion for about 7 months now .... nothing worth having comes easy. I'm going all out - recirculating shower, 85 gallons of water on board, 400 amps of solar panels on the roof filling 340 amp hours of battery storage, cassette toilet, kitchen and double bed. While it seems overwhelming now - and it is on some days ... stay the course - the finished product will be so well worth it. As far as the wiring demo - I was fortunate to buy mine from the original owners, a local fire dept. and got the original build book with mine with full wiring schematics - everything but lighting for truck operation cut out and gone.

I’m 22 and purchasing an ambulance this week and will be converting it as well, it’s going to be a huge undertaking for me but i’m so excited for it and have been binge watching ambulance conversions and van conversions. I’m not looking forward to all of the existing electrical I will have to sort through but watching these types of videos definitely helps so thank you!

good luck man - about two thirds through mine - get a good electrical guy to help you on that end and have at it.

Just went though pulling the wiring harness on mine. I think yours may have had even more. Was lucky enough to find one harness held all the wiring for the rear lights. I also now have a huge box of wrapped individual wires to reuse.

We did! Hopefully it stays on the road now. 😆 We have a couple hour drive to do tonight heading to the DFW area.

@@TeamWiff you should have just spent the night here. Abilene is a pretty nice little big town, but it ain't close to a Dallas!

We stayed there last night. My other half went to ACU there a few years ago so too, so it was cool her to visit once again.

Another excellent video. Thanks for that tip on the stretcher hardware bolts. I had tried to remove them with a socket wrench, but they were not budging so I soaked them with penetrating oil and tapped them with a hammer to work the oil in and moved on to other projects and have not got back to them yet. I hope the difficulty turning indicates mine are all without nuts on the underside -- I'd think with how hard I was torquing on them that they would have broken free any nuts from sticking to the underside.
Mine are Ferno brand is that what yours were or were they Stryker or other?
Again, the detail and the tips for folks like me who are working on our own are greatly appreciated!

I honestly didn't check. I might have them sitting around in a scrap pile though back in Florida, and we're slowly making our way back now.

Probably a dumb question, but what was that thing you removed from the roof at the end of the video? I couldn't quite make out if it was a bolt or what its purpose is.

It had a label nearby that said antenna, and there were 2 of these in the roof. The antennas themselves were removed before we got the rig, so these things were all that remained.

Radio antennas on the roof, light bars on the back and roof of the cab, so much crap to remove and patch .. one item at a time, slow and steady
