I hadn’t ever had a conversation with my clothes. So I tried it. I threw out the non-sparky things and kept the sparky things. Folded them neatly. Then when I went to wear them they told me I was too fat. No more conversations.
I find it interesting that people so readily mock Konmari, but haven't tried any of her methods. My clothing JOY is shirts from bands -- local mostly. Wearing them reminds me of a good experience, expresses my support for the band, and is part of my message to others. Folding them the Konmari way allows me to see at a glance what I have. When I folded them the "old way" and piled them in drawers, I rarely reached to the bottom and frequently made shirts untidy looking through them. This saves me tons of time. It also makes clothes fast an easy to pack, whether going to the gym, away for a weekend or a month.
I love her method, and people making fun of her don't understand it. Showing gratitude to everything (even a shirt) allows you to let go of it and move forward. Sounds silly to us Americans, but it works.
Get to know yourself a little better and I promise you'll begin to see what she means. Marie kondo recommmends if you aren't sure what sparks joy for you in one category, such as clothing, then you should spend time thinking about other things that spark joy for you, such as certain hobbies or certain foods. That will get you familiar with identifying the feeling. Then you can try again (:
If someone here doesn't like how she's organizing why are you watching her videos in the first place? Maybe bc you need to get stuff organised and don't know how but you're too lazy to begin in the first place. I couldn't find joy in my clothes but after seeing it through her method I tried to declutter as much as I could. Now I'm happy to look at my clothes, so if you like it or not her method works..
Marie, I have several tank tops that are the same color, but with different designs on the front. How can I fold them, that I will be able to tell them apart, without having to unfold them? I also, have 4 pair of black leggings, with different accents near the ankle (lacy, snaps, cutouts, appliqués). How do I fold so That the design shows?
I don't know how MK would respond, but to your first question: you see how, from 1:53 onward, she has the T-shirt face up? Well, if you want to identify your top by design, do the same thing except start with it face down. Any design on the front will face upwards once folded in the same manner. As for the black leggings, I guess the only way to accomplish the same thing is to fold so that the lacy edge is upright. MK's approach is to have the bottom edge of the garment folded inward, but if you fold the leggings in half (say) four times, without the usual folding inwards, you'll have the ankle edge showing.
cha mekke Looks to me like the clothes would be a wrinkled mess if you folded them up like that. I would never fold the front to the inside. You can’t even tell if the neckline is round or v-neck. I think her method is all about spiritualism or something. I refuse to talk to my clothes. That’s called psychotic.
@@homebodyheaven6114 you'd be surprised then just how many "psychotics" there are XD. Interestingly, despite the many folds, her method actually doesn't cause creasing as much as I expected it to. As she mentioned in her Instagram once, its the weight/gravity of having clothes stacked atop one another that causes creasing. Since her clothes are arranged vertically, there's no weight to push them. I haven't tried it with formal and corporate attire but so far no creasing on my shirts and dresses regardless of fabric. -Marie (yes, same name haha)

I would like to know how wrinkled the clothes are later. My husband folds and then rolls his t shirts that he wears to the gym, and they are in 50 wrinkles when he takes them out.
How do you usually tell which shirt it is? Her book also talks about rolling up clothing - which I currently do with all my t-shirts and its easy to see the prints in the front.
Use the same technique, however the first fold is in half. Then fold over the extra material at the crotch. From here you can follow the KonMari method; half lengthways and then into thirds. Joy!
But you can’t see what the garment is? So it’s a waist of time, and why does she hide the neckline of the tops? It’s like she’s more worried about what the little stack looks like rather than thinking about when somebody goes to look for something to wear. Unfortunately you space can’t do that with those little neat packages so it doesn’t make sense. Not for me.
Well your common sense may be different from others' common sense. In fact, scientifically, there is no common sense. Everything needs to be taught and learned. Even something like speaking should be a natural skill but we have to learn too.
I could say... maybe innately there isn’t common sense .... but after thousands of years living in a industrialized world ... you would think you could pick up a few traits... her folding ISNT revolutionary ... its so crazy to me...
Well, why are so many people around the world into religions when whatever those major religions are telling people is absolutely basic? If everyone was perfect and had common sense, you wouldn't even need religion.
I think Marie Kondo’s concept about folding and gratitude is to appreciate what you have and what you have had. Letting go of the items you don’t like(no spark joy), is because every time you look at something that you don’t like actually stresses you. I’m a visual person, so this is how I feel. The general message is: Everyday and Every moment count and we should give love to the moments and simple joys. Cause there is no complicated joy other than LOVING your Home and your Family.
I have a fairly orderly apartment, despite of being a single man. I even iron and fold my clothes, perhaps not as neatly as this woman, but it looks ok, I think. But I skip all the rest of the bs and spend that time with friends, family, etc...
No bigbdeal she has just found the best influencer or publisher or producer ehatever. Not worth the attention she is creating. Good example how someone or thig if marketed well can becaome a sensation
That is ridiculous, I mean she hasn't invented nothing new here!! She put a new name to sth that its a common sense. And her folding method of clothes............if i dont work, i dont eat then maybe I would have time to do it this way

She’s a size 0 or 2, my size 18 does fit so cute in the box!
I have the same issue Kathleen! I just keep folding smaller and smaller until they do fit! It does work!
Not one piece of clothing I own sparks joy. So I threw everything away and now I am naked and the neighbors called the cops on me. Thanks a lot.

Not everyone lives hand to mouth.
It actually doesn’t take that long to do and it saves space by -removing the air- imparting love into your clothes.
Tom Forge I hope the love doesn’t come out in the wash. Then do you have to impart it again? Or just avoid detergent?
If it takes you forever to go through your clothes and fold it you either have too much or get to distracted because this shouldn't take you to long.
