I really like order but believe that this method is ocd. I’ve listened to dr Ramani on her opinion of this method, I concur, speaking to inanimate objects and expecting material objects to bring you joy is exactly the same emotion out of control in hoarders. Our joy comes from good memories and a state of emotional happiness. My opinion.
Yes, it works. I had never been a good organizer for 25 years!!! Now, I am . My room has never been better. I’ve got lots of good complements when I have visitors coming in . Before I never let anyone came to my room because of the mess I made. For anyone who wants to try this method, please read her book. Thank you so much Marie Kondo if u read this! U have changed my life!
When I first saw her Netflix series, I thought she was little too sweet, but I love her concepts and she illuminates happiest, and positive energy. Think of how our world would be if everyone shined positivity like her.
A famous psychologist labeled Kondo's Tidyness as "Perfectionism". However, I see a totally relaxed person and much less stressed than less organized people. After all she isn't obsessed, it's a way of life. I managed to excel it to some degree and already I was called a perfectionist. Grrr.
I bet she gets stressed if she visits anyone untidy home. I have a habit of fixing people toilet paper if they have it in the incorrect position. It should be over not under
Marie is very intelligent, knows what she's doing, gets order & simplifying in order to reduce stress, know where things are, efficient with time & energy.I follow her because of all the above ❤
Her method is unique. You are not doing room by room but rather category by category. Example clothes. So every stitch of clothing including jackets winter jackets summer clothes rain boots anything that you wear on your body including scarves hats whatever else falls into that category. Make one big pile and start sorting. It's very exhausting but it works.
What a great inspiration is Marie Kondo! Ever since I started watching her shows, I found the courage to start declutting my home, thanks Marie! Blessings!
I folded my underwear drawer using the kon mari method about 2yrs ago. It is the only clothing drawer which has stayed tidy, it never got messy agin. I keep meaning to try her methods on the rest of my home!
I've used Marie's organization methods! I fold my cloths away to make room! I hang some! As far as my books, they are my treasures! I use them as references! They bring me joy! I just try not to buy too many!
Marie has said OVER AND OVER that she is NOT a MINIMALIST. The other things in this piece are accurate, but she is adamant that she's not a minimalist, not at all. The focus on KonMari is on what you KEEP, where as minimalism is focused on what getting rid of as much as possible.

Hi there, in my side of culture and tradition, a MAN, that doesnt appreciate a tidy and organized environment, pertains to a man with a life that has no direction,,, happines begins with things that are "TIDY" according to,,, is it not,,,? love the video,,, god bless more power,,, a tidy house means a tidy planet,,, food for thought
She’s NOT A MINIMALIST! Not a single concept in her book is about minimalism! ONLY keeping items that “spark joy”. If it doesn’t spark joy to throw anything out then don’t. That’s not minimalism.
that sounds minimalism for me. Minimalism is not a strict concept when people only have only a few things in their home/lives but only the things that they really need, and in Marie's term - "spark joy". While minimalism is quite a new concept people use on social media now, "tidiness" exists for a long time ago
Minimalists have different guidelines for the stuff they keep, like "only stuff that is either beautiful or useful" or "only what spark joy"... Some extreme ones have an specific amount of stuff or what fits in a backpack. But the point is to find what is essential to you as a person, it's a journey you have to take and each book has its own approach to figure that out... The outcome is unique as everyone is unique.
Gmail Gmail obviously you should. Apparently there are some minimalists who’s personal criteria include that. 😂 The root word is MINIMAL. If one’s criteria don’t include minimizing they are NOT a minimalist.
So, basically we see absolutely nothing of Kondo's home, talk about a click bait title! Don't you hate that? A few of her instagram photos have been used but we can see more on her account so this video was a waste f my time.
Mary LaFrance We've been doing it consistently since our lengthy trip to Japan last summer. I thought there was no hope for my husband, but he hasn't 'cheated' once! We have a nice bamboo shoe rack in the foyer.
I did not know that there is somthing kondo Marie. But in INDIA we always declutter old things at the DIWALI occasion.we make free our house from non usable thing every year and feel happy since my childhood and welcome our goddess maa Lakshmi.
This kills me. My mom use to fold our clothes like this. She would also categorize things to through our things. Only difference was that there was no such thing as “spark joy” She would just say you don’t need that or you haven’t used that etc. lol
Thanks someone else noticed. We're a family of four living on 60sqm which is about 645 sqft (ok, plus the attic, that holds a bed and our suitcases and the basement which is about 320sqft). Our living room is around 215 sqft. That might sound tiny (with the average US-American family home being around 2500sqft) , but if you keep decluttering it's feasible.
13m x 13m is 169m/2 (1819 square feet. That’s actually really big, at least for European standards. We live in a condo exactly that size and it has 6 large rooms plus a kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Doesn’t sound tight to me. There has to be something wrong. Maybe 3m x 3m?
The part I have trouble with is getting larger items out of house/garage/shed etc. like an organ, old washer, stove etc. I’m older and cannot move thee things. I’ve taken many bags of clothes to donation places though. There is still a house full of stuff I’d like to clear out and garage sale but again I cannot manage it myself. I’d surely love some ideas!!
Many construction workers will do this for about $20 or $30 Cdn, or call a donation place such as used stoves, donation places for clothes, or garbage haulers, used furniture places etc.
The key is in the visualisation and writing process done in the beginning. If you spell out how your garage needs to look like and then sort and examine each object, it works out!
I appreciate this lady's advice and personal rituals but I wish people would stop advocating the use of this many crystals. Mining this stuff is taking a toll on our planet- please stop tearing crystals out of the earth to cleanse or purify your space. Open a frigging window.

Marie Kondo is a very smart businesswoman because she has sold the ideal of staying clean and organized by not having to many things to organize. Marie Kondo Image is the whole selling package she's short, thin, soft spoken and her clothes and home are the same light airy colors. And can I say boring because who doesn't love a little black dress or a dark piece of furniture come on even the kids 2 toys and the 1 book was the colored of cream. (lol) and I don't even want to talk about her office where her work station was on top of her thighs or should I say her lap that was at the end of her sofa couch with no armrest. And I can't forget her 1 tiny flower plant that was put on a desk that she doesn't even own. So having office supplies like a printer, pens and paper doesn't exist in her business world. Then I guess we are to believe that Marie Kondo isn't attached to anything or have any Interest or hobbies in anything like cooking, crafting, gardening or painting etc. But why would she if she only have 1 picture of each child that she and not her husband loves printed because it's all about Marie Kondo fake world that isn't full of love, laughter and life.

Mary-it makes sense and I don't know why everyone doesn't do it. Why track dirt and mud into the house?
WHAT? In a room of about 13m x 13m there isn't much space for storage? It's 169 sqm! THAT IS HUUUUUGE!!!

A room measuring 13x13m is massive, I think they might mean feet. That's bigger than my entire house.
She is so cute! I did my clothes differently now.
13x13 makes 169 m2, that's a big house, even more impressive for a room, what a humble brag
I'm pretty sure her family room wasn't 13m x 13m. That would be 169 m2 = 1819 sqft. 13m2 (=139 sqft.) seem realistic to me.

I think it's 13 square metres. Japanese apartments are really tiny.
Wait "tiny" 13mx13m house for 5? These are 169 sqm. This is a house were every person can have his or her own room, what is here tiny?
The part I have trouble with is getting larger items out of house/garage/shed etc. like an organ, old washer, stove etc. I’m older and cannot move thee things.
