Man, does this band do T-Bone proud. I saw this exact lineup many years ago. Kid Ramos on that big blonde ES-5. Man...killin' me here. And is there anybody in blues cooler than Kim? Thanks, Hobnoy1 for putting this up there for all of us to enjoy.
Most cats that play swing blues or blues like T-Bone Walker usually pick by the bridge. It kinda creates tension and a really twangin' sound. If you listen to T-Bone Walker, you can see where they get it from. Me being a blues musician, I do this all the time and the sound you get if the guitar is put out of phase and your amp is kinda driven is so groovy!
bluesboy macman yeah-- i've been checking out a lot of tbone and other jump stuff and have noticed that they do get that really fat plonky sound...i guess picking by the bridge does give you that-- a little less sustain and more groink. i've also been noticing the lack of vibrato in this style. learning some of this stuff myself and how they build phrasing right in the main position using a lot of 6ths, major thirds and bends combined with pentatonic stuff-- very cool and hornlike. you're right about the out of phase-- with a strat on the neck/middle and picking at the bridge you get that honkin' tone. blues like this is so refreshing after all the chicago/srv/buddy guy/ i iv v shuffles that most people seem to think is the entirety of the blues...also checking a lot of hollywood fats...great stuff
Travis Crum Amen to that. Check out all the great west coast/bebop guitarists like Tiny Grimes (on tenor!), Mickey Baker, Goree Carter, Billy Butler, Bill Jennings, Junior Barnard, tha latter one - at least for me - THE western swing guitarist, pretty much influenced by Charlie Christian (and by some accounts even Charlie was influenced back by Junior). Check out the "new" ones too: Junior Watson, Rick Holmstrom, Joel Paterson...
Youre right Maine Bluesman And yes, I love Kid Ramos' playing but I love his guitar (the one he plays here) more! The only thing I don't envy is his Vox amp - I have one of those, C 1962. It sounds amazing with a Les Paul, especially when I used to pair it with have my (reissue) Super Reverb which I had to sell...THAT's the blues, folks This performance is just brilliant. Many thanks for posting it.
Band I worked with last year worked this up. Only difference, I got out a chromatic harp and did a lot of cool swing-y accent and a solo or two. Wish Kim had- He's one great harp man aside from one of the most relaxed and excellent vocalists out there. The band and esp. Kid Ramos sure do the song total justice.
Freaking awesome guitar playing ! Whole band ! This is to me, one of the best examples of west coast blues swing out there! Love it !
I agree. .. the blues outlaw
One of the best 12 bar blues I've heard.

Goooooöd!
ever notice how kid ramos picks so close to the bridge? unusual, but it works for him to get a poppy and bright tone

Travis Crum Oh, also check out the great Jimmy Nolen (yes, the Jimmy Nolen. Pre-James Brown era, of course) you won't be disappointed!
That's not a guitar...That's a wardrobe with 3 P-90's strapped to it..
lol!
Good one!!!! Need a moving company
Brillant
Kim Wilson is a legend and a phenominal singer and Tyrone Vaughan is great on guitar..band is terrific
That's Kid Ramos on gtr.
Tyrone Vaughn doesn’t play for the Fabulous Thunderbirds, he plays with Breedlove. His dad Jimmie played with the ‘Birds.
Wonderful shuffle!
I love you Duke since with roomful of blues with greg

Lee thornberg on trumpet (Jack mack....Tower of power)

I remember seeing Harmon with Kid Ramos and Hollywood Fats together, Fats, Junior Watson hugely influential on Kid Ramos.
JIMMIE VAUGHAN IS PLHENOMINAL. WISH I COULD PLAY LIKE HIM
Kim Wilson looks younger than he did in 1979 ....How do you do that
That guitar is like I prefer my women - big, curvy and blonde.......
Equipped with two
F Holes
AWESOME
Nice!
🎉🎉🎉🎉👍🏻🇳🇴
🎊🎊🙏🏻
tough act to follow that t bone walker but not bad!
Jazz and voice compatible
Not Kid Ramos but Jimmy Vaughn
Love these guys and they give this Gatemouth Brown cover all the right punches....
T Bone Walker... Not Gatemouth Brown...
Was a cover for Gatemouth, too.
Неплохо.
The harp player. Who said for him thats his is beatiful?
This isn’t the real Fabulous Thunderbirds. It’s Kim Wilson with some paid sidemen. A tribute band.
Strong
Try not tapping your feet.
Impossible
Karen
That singer needs a wig.
and hair!
Or a turban.
Fabulous, great horns, but overpowering his guitar solo.
