I live as if off grid. I choose between running air conditioning or buying food. I've done laundry by hand for years. If the grid goes down, I will hardly notice. Peace and Blessings everyone 🌻
I don’t own a dryer at all. My clothes are hung on a close line outside in good weather and on lines in my basement at other times. 😊
Groceries are going up in price all the time. I don’t know how much higher they can go. I used to enjoy grocery shopping, now it can be depressing. It is hard for large families to eat healthy. Have a great evening everyone!
Hi There Julie 😊,
It's The Same Over Here. It's As If Someone Doesn't Want Us To Eat Healthily-- Although, I Have To Say, It's Not That Much Cheaper For Highly Processed Food!
Anyway, I Hope That You Have A Great Evening Too My Friend,
Blessings, Andrea
Hi juliewebber 😊
I love you, Tessie. Thank you so much for all your help. God Bless You And also, to all who replied to my post. God Bless All of You. I appreciate and love all of you. .
It's so outrageous these days. Remember when ears of corn used to be, like, 12 for $1.00? Those days are long gone, I'm afraid. But, let's look on the bright side--we do have food to eat, right? God bless, dearheart.
Seventh day Adventist farming community in Castle Valley, UT used to sell us their fresh ears of corn and other veggies as well as fruit at that type of price, its been so many years since I lived in Moab,I wonder if they still take their fresh produce to town and how much its worth. But like ya say we have food to eat, reminded me of Mrs. Patterson telling my mom about frankfurters, this was back in the 70s, with things going as they are, we shouldn't be surprised if the weiner companies would just blow up gut with air and sell that as the yummy weiners.😅
Bananas.and eggs are still the best food buys..a banana glass milk couple egg.heathly meal
.oh y.pc toast e butter & jelly
. power meal
Wholesale corn has fallen to just above pre-pandemic prices. It should be hitting retail soon.
Tessie, Prices have gone very high here I always look at expiration dates as well as any sales on items slowly prepping and stocking up :-) Love you my Sister :-) God Bless You and Ken :-)
Tessie, you could have a lot worse habit than a bagel and cream cheese every morning. Don't start feeling guilty about that. 🧡
We searched for a local farmer in our area that doesn't charge crazy high prices and support him in buying whatever he has for sale. Pairing that with bulk stored rice and beans and growing our own greens is helping a ton!
I love you Tessie, you give me hope 💖
Hi, Tessie. When I went shopping yesterday, the cashier and I had a little conversation about the ever-rising prices and ever-shrinking amounts of food. I was getting some frozen vegetables, and bags that used to be 16oz are now 12oz-for higher prices. These days, I'm thankful for all we are able to get and to be able to keep up with getting 5 pantry items a week to stay stocked up. Enjoy your bagels, Tessie. It's good to have a treat or something like that you enjoy. ❤

Maybe you can add salt to your bread flour to take out the bitterness. Cereal companies use salt to neutralize the metallic flavor in their corn flakes and stuff. Try some in your bread if you do already, maybe add a little more to neutralize the bitterness in your bread.
WOW, What a Great Idea !! Thank you !!
Baking soda works for canned goods from the grocery store
My granny taught that to me as well. She lived and raised up a family through the great depression.
I love my bagels too. I buy some at Panera when I get a chance. It’s my little splurge.
Yesterday, some of the neighborhoods around us were without power for 6 hours, Tessie! Good idea to learn how to get things done without electricity. I don't have a rain barrel, but I do live not far from a creek. I would gather that water if I had to and wash myself and my clothes! 😊 thanks for the tips!
Produce is so high. Glad you garden. Just finished dehydrating tomatoes and also basil from my garden to enjoy when the season is over as its hard to afford buying these things.
We have noticed there is an almost 100 % increase in foods. Even at the discount store😢

Hello
@@pr9764 doing well, 😃
Tessie, in addition to making your own bagels, you can also make your own pretzels. I love the big soft ones with mustard.
Corn at the farmers market is 1 dollar per ear. The small local farmstand that I love goes up in price every year now since 2020. For instance, a large tomato is now a dollar. You can get a bag of tomato rejects though for four dollars. Their imperfections are not really bad at all so I buy those and they are delicious. Unfortunately people do steal from her so if I don’t have the exact change, I don’t mind leaving her extra. I really need to do better with my garden next year with no mistakes. This is my third year gardening and I am determined to get things right eventually!
Bagels are expensive. I also need to learn how to make them.
I planted a late crop of corn and in about two weeks I should be able to harvest it. You are right it has gotten expensive at farm stands.
I bought garbage bags this week and thought they had increased in price. I bought a less expensive brand. I hope they work out.
Due to heart issues, I can't have sour cream, so I have exchanged it with non fat yogurt. I suggest you try plain yogurt. Air popped popcorn is a favorite. I always shop the lost leaders from the store. Soon, people will be selling corn and watermelon out of the backs of pickups on the side of the road. Those are usually a pretty good deal. Blessings
P.s. I miss bagels and cream cheese so much.
Prices are so ridiculous these days! Homemade bagels are pretty easy to make and taste SOOO much better, give them a try you will love them!
Tessie, It's The Same Here. Prices Are Ridiculous -- Especially When You Want To Eat Healthy Food!

Yea I agree..even if it's an overall in the long run less
to buy more of something, you can't spend that much if the funds need to go immediately to another bill instead.
I buy my bagels at the Dollar Tree. Four for 1.25. Not the best but it fits my budget and I only have half of one a day. I watch the sales ads and only buy loss leaders and necessary items. I buy trash bags at Walmart 12$ for 120. Corn has been 3/1$ here for two months but it has to be shucked. Fresh fruit isn't bought unless it's on a good sale.I go to up to four different stores depending on whats on sale. My income has to feed three adults and my cat so I make it go as far as possible.
Those are the best bagels. I freeze them when I can find them.

I have some Olathe corn in the fridge right now. Will try that. Thanks!
Its hard to go grocery shopping. Its just me and 5 dogs and it expensive. 😊

Tessie, my husband and I were just talking about the price of groceries. We are trying to eat better whole foods-and less processed items. It is getting more and more difficult to afford. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. 🤎🤎🤎
I've been buying frozen fruits and vegetables in bulk from sams. They are usually frozen the day they are harvested.
@@mj-hk6iv Thanks! I’ll have to check this out.
You're right Tessie it does look easy when you fast forward lol but I know you 2 worked hard together. Thank you for sharing your life and knowledge . Love you and God bless you all 💕
Ok, Tessie! I can help!
1st, sour cream. I take greek yogurt and buy the big one, take out to use what I need, add a couple of frops of lemon juice to taste, whip it up with a fork. It almost taste the same and half the fat.
You can put canned fruit in the yogert . We put yogert, a little honey, cinnamon, granola, rasins or dried berries in ours as a snack.
Saves you $$ too.
2nd. You can make cream cheese and butter out of whole fat condenced csnned milk.
3rd. I buy corn Tortillas (the 50 count pack). Next I put a little oil on each side, put on a baking pan, cook at 450 for about 13 to 14 mins, until golden and no oil still wet. I cant get salt to stick to them. I break them up and make chips, or leave them whole for tostadas. I put a moisture pack in them and reuse my bagel bags. Save you $$.
( My moisture packs are made of cheese cloth, baking soda and raw white rice. Add a dash of salt if you like.) These do last several months when using sealed jars or not.
4th. I buy jumbo eggs. Most will have 2 yokes in them, so I only use one egg.
Saves you $$.
5th. Frozen vegetables.
I buy broccoli etc fresh, bllach it , chop it up and freeze it. You can use the stallks if you cut the thin, and the leaves are good in soups.
Again, saves you $$.
6th. Egg shells.
I use the grocery store ones to scrub stubborn stuff on my pots pand and stove. ( they can scratch , so do a test first.) I put them in my Nutra Bullet and grind them to a powder. Then use as needed.
I take organic wgg shells and wash them, dry them, put them in the Nutra Bullet, grind them to a powder. I use the in soups. Just add a little and let them cook down in the soup for about an hr. Rhey shouls almost disolve. They are good for your hair, skin, nails and bones. They have a lot of collagen in them. Dont use too much (2-4 tblspns) or you will taste them. Not a great taste.
7th. I make my own Hydroxycloroquine.
Wask and peel off the skins ofany of these. Oranges, lemons, grapefruit.
Must use the lemon peels in each batch. 1 batch is 3 lemon peels, and 3 of any mentioned. 6 peels total. Boil on medium for 3 hrs. Chill or freeze for up to 3 months. I triple the batches. Its bitter, but remember, your liver love bitter. Serving size is 1/2 cup once a day in the morning. Best served cold. You wont get sick in the winter, helps to detox the body too. I hope this helps. Soory this was so long! My dyslexia wasn't so bad today. Lol! It took me a long time to type this, but I really wanted to share these with you and all who read this. I want to learn to make bagels too! All I know is you have to put Molasses in them for them to come out shiny. Hubby is getting way better too! Love you! ❤❤❤ p.s. i had 6 children. Thats why I had to save $$.😂

What a great deal on the socks!!
Hi tessie. I agree we are in trouble. The price of groceries along with everything else we have to pay for. Great video ❤
I've done a good bit of accumulating things to use off grid. My goal now is to start using them. Perfect timing for these videos. Very educational and inspiring!
I've started keeping a record of the items I buy at the store and the prices to see how much they change in price. I've noticed that sometimes it's higher than what it says on the store tag
Making bagels are very easy
Your prices are much lower than our prices. Thanks for the video.
I know with the cost of food and my EBT is only $2 a day from the time I get it to the time I get it again so it's getting really hard to afford food. If it wasn't for my food preps, I don't know if I'd really make it the whole month. But I do try to do my best that I can make it through.😊
We arent buying snack crackers, chips, nor pretzel type things except for an occational treat or they are $1 or less. We do pretty guaranteedly buy 2 if they are 2/$1 but we havent come across this price since May/ June. I am seeing bread flour on sale here and there come the end of July.
I just went to the discount store and found a few good deals, dukes Mayo .99, lays potato chip big bags .99, saltines .99, off brand lucky charms .99, enchilada sauce .99..I stocked up on that stuff because under a dollar is great 😍 I didn’t know grapefruit was good for the arteries. I’ll have to try eating it more. Oh and I like to use chicken feed bags as garbage bags.
Whoa, that's great. I've never seen Dukes less than $4.50!!
Hi Tessie love your volgs ❤
You are right grocery cost goes up every time I go to the store and they don't have good sales anymore either. When you're on a fixed budget you have to get real creative! I'd love to know how to make cream cheese and sour cream, as they are extremely expensive here. You got a great deal on the socks though!! Thanks for sharing.❤❤😊😊
Have you considered making your own yogurt? I've just started, and I cannot believe how amazing it is. I make mine in the instapot that we just invested in. I am amazed at its capabilities. ❤❤❤
Try substituting plain yogurt for sour cream and cream cheese. You need to strain the whey from the yogurt. This works great, especially if you make your own yogurt.
I've never tried that, to me it's just not as thick. I add garlic powder or other spices before I put it over a baked potato or dip veggies in it. Thanks for the tip!!
ShiraKaiman....If you add some salt to your yogurt, it tastes very similar to sour cream!❤😊
prepping is always good
Wow for a discount grocery store those things are expensive! Bagels are less then half that at our Aldis and Wal-Mart here as well as some of the other things being less.😮 We grow as much fruit as possible thats a real savings...grapes...apples...cherries...strawberrys...blackberries and raspberries ❤ We have dozens of deer so we fence anything they would eat. Deer fencing is really cheap lightweight and easy to install and ours has held up for 5 years now.😊
Bagels are super easy and frugal.. The recipe i use is just water yeast salt lil sugar ( or honey) and flour. You can add seasoning or whatever toppings. Rise boil and bake. I freeze them before they go bad. Im with you bagels are a must for me and my kids
I fill my cart with what is on sale. Kroger has weekly deals, usually on a rotation. Some are pretty good for today's standard. Aldi shopping too. Sam's Club for some items. I just hate having to go so many places. I'm lucky to live in close vicinity to many stores.

We can thank the food corporations for the sky-high prices! They have admitted to hiking their prices and making record profits!!!!!
It’s the cost of fuel. It impacts the electricity in every store. It impacts the truckers. Grocery stores actually survive on a very thin margin
@@geribradley158 we can thank the current administration for the high prices and our failing economy due to their policies.

Banana peels are great compost for some plants (like roses).
I have been making homemade instant pot yogurt from low fat milk. I drain it to make greek yogurt and whey. I use greek yogurt like sour cream and also add a little honey or sugar to just eat it. I use the whey like buttermilk in drop biscuits instead of buying breads. I also make scratch bread. We realy like bagles but switched to homemade breads when prices skyrocketed.
Tessie, you got an excellent price on your cream chesse. 😊 The price on your bagels, not so good. 😔 I think the last bag that I got at Aldis was like 2.99 over 3 months ago.

You've given me a lot of good ideas on saving money and these days we can use all the ideas we can get. I'm wondering if there is a way to use less plastic kitchen garbage bags, actually I'm looking for ways to use less of everything and make things last longer to try to get what's needed before money runs out.
The expired food places used to be able to get it super cheap but now they are paying more so have to sell it for more. Many big name grocery stores would toss stuff. Many now are selling food in their stores but some stores the deals are not as good. After the lockdowns 4 years ago when it started it hurt so many businesses. we have to be real creative with shopping. Or we plant our own gardens or when someone is on sale get as many as they allow you to and freeze the stuff.
Great video
Happy Wednesday Tessie and all. It’s scary how everything is soo expensive! I too have noticed that our discount stores (not as good as yours) but my prices have doubled on expired food! I had frozen a chunk of frozen Gouda I had gotten 6 months ago for 4.50. Now they want 10.00 for the same product
I've made bagels once before. I also like to make English muffins. I am not aware of any discount grocery stores locally. Aldi and $ Tree plus several local chains. Is there much research on the dry/oven canning you do? It would cook the contents of the jar and that might change the taste. I use a vacuum sealer myself. Flour in 5 gallon food grade buckets for year's with no problem in going bad. I try to buy powdered milk in sealed containers as I don't use it often and it will go rancid/off when old.

Wow food is sure getting expensive and I am very impressed at the deals you got Tessie! Way to go my friend! My husband and I have to cut our expenses down too and we have sure done well at it but one thing that we need that we just can't stop doing without is papertowels! I use them for the Cat and we use them alot for our dinner napkins, well I remember when I was a little girl, my Mom would make our napkins out of the remnants she would find at the fabric store, and she would cut them and hem them up nicely on the sewing machine, I told my husband I could sure do that so all I need is a sewing machine, so I'm looking forward to that and so much can be done with one! I am not a seamstress of any kind but I do know how to use one, so I even know that I can make some tote bags from the large empty bags of the Cat food, so that is one thing I can also make and sell with our home made stuff that we do, folks love that so every penny counts!
