If you’re wanting to use Embers, I’m pretty sure it works with midi files. So you’ll need to record the midi, save it and then load it into embers. I’m not too familiar with the process but I think that’s how it works. So for that you can use USB. You can also use USB to work with midi in your DAW and then use virtual instruments for the sounds. This gives you tons of different instruments that you can choose from. You don’t need speakers connected. This sounds like a routing issue. You might be using the Asio4all driver. If you are you can open the control panel for it and set the output to the um2. It will likely be called “audio codec”. That’s if you’re using the plug and play driver with Asio4all.
@@AudioTechTV thank you so much for your help.. I got a bit further, the only thing I can hear is the "metronome" in pro tools first when it's switched on. Still cant hear any of my recordings.. What am I doing wrong?
What audio device do you have pro tools set to use? Do you have Asio4all installed? If you do set pro tools to use Asio4all and then you should see a control panel button. Click that button and make sure it’s set to use the Behringer device (possibly called audio coded”) for both input and output.
Also. I have a video that shows how to install the actual driver for the um2 here ua-cam.com/video/S3QHbhtknH8/v-deo.html that might help. I use that driver and it’s been great in Pro Tools First. Just set pro tools to use it and you’re good.

so i dont have speakers or the correct headphone adapter to plug my interface into, so is there a way to hear the output through the headphones that are plugged into the computer?
If you have an external phantom power supply you could connect it to the audio interface but you won’t need it as this audio interface has its own phantom power supply. Most modern audio interfaces have their own phantom power built in.
It depends on what type of output your digital piano has. If it has a line out then you could use line input. If it has an instrument output then you would connect to the instrument input.
If you’re talking about something like a gamer headset then no. I haven’t really used one. But if you’re wondering about studio headphones then yes. If you want a decent pair for mixing you’ll need to spend a bit of money. Personally I use a combo of Audio Technica ATH M50x and Beyerdynamic DT770 770 pro 250 ohm version. I probably use the DT770 more during the main mixing just because I like the comfort. If you’re on a budget the Tascam TH02 headphones are decent. But audio Technica also has some lower models that can be decent too. You want to try to find headphones that have a flat frequency response. Usually if you visit a manufacturer website they will have a graph. No headphones will be perfect. Once you get your headphones it may take some time to get used to the frequencies they hype or don’t allow you to hear well. I like using virtual studio plugins like Waves NX series to go with my headphones it can really help quite a bit and also help you to get used to your headphones. I hope this helps.
Hey dude! Very informative video, nice work and thanks! I do have a question though: I set up my mic recently and I've been getting crackling when I record. The direct moniter through my interface sounds clear, but the recording sounds terrible. What do you think the issue could be?
It’s been a year so undoubtedly you’ve found out what was causing the problem. For anyone else having this issue, it’s been my experience that it’s simply bad cables or connections. Check those first and replace if necessary.
So what do you do when you have studio monitors + focusrite scarlet 2i2 and you also want to use for gaming some kind of headset with microphone like Razer Kraken OR SteelSeries Arctis or Sony Inzone WH-G700W or whatever headphones that already have a micprophone attached to them?
My audio interface works in studio one for about 30 seconds and then it say, can’t connect please check hardware configuration.. can anyone help me with that?
If the output of the Katana is a line output then select line output on your interface. If it’s instrument level then select that. It will likely be a line output though.
If you’re using a 1/4” cable to connect your mic to the audio interface you won’t be going into the mic preamp. You can likely connect your mic to the audio interface with the 1/4” cable but it won’t sound the best. If your mic is a condenser microphone then you won’t be able to use it with the 1/4” cable because you can’t access the phantom power needed for a condenser.
Just bought the interface today. But I have an issue. I plugged my amp into the interface and interface into my computer but I cannot hear the sound come out of it. However, if I plug my headphones into the interface, I CAN hear the sound. So the Mackey speakers are not optional, right?
The speakers are optional if you only want to use headphones with it. But if you want to hear sound through speakers and not headphones then you will need to get studio monitors or speakers to connect to it. You will not hear any audio through your laptop’s speakers. When you connect the audio interface it becomes your sound card. Your audio no longer goes through your onboard sound card which is connected to your laptop speakers.
Hi, I just purchased a new M air 192/4 audio interface I managed to get as far as connecting it to my laptop but I'm completely lost I don't know what to do next or how to get it working I keep trying to contact m audio on the chat line but it keeps cutting me off and I can't get through to them I don't know exactly what apps I need for this DAW thing. I am only a beginner. I have been trying for 2 days to get it set up finding it difficult could someone please help me with this thanks Andy
Super beginner question! Hope you can still help seeing as this video is a year old… what’s a daw? Do I need it? If so why? I’m having issues downloading the software from the website.
DAW stands for digital audio workstation. This is typically the software that you use to record and edit your audio with. If you’re a musician this is where you’ll record and mix your tracks. If you’re a podcaster or something like that this is where you’ll record your voice and any guests voices too. Then you can edit and add things in. Do you need one? Only if you plan on recording and editing audio. If you are just live steaming with your interface and have no interest in recording then a DAW would be pretty much useless to you. If you plan on recording and editing then yes you absolutely should get one. There are lots of free ones available and depending on the audio interface you have, it may have come with one or two. Hope this helps.
Got a question for ya.. I got a rode NT1-A with scarlet solo 3rd gen. Well.. I have everything on, powered, but my recording in the beginning have a pop, no pops all the way through, till the end. Then there's a pop. I have the soft ware downloaded, ive checked cards. Specs Processor: ryzen 5 5600x Gpu: rx 5700 xt 16 gbs of ram
And if I want to connect a headphone with mic, how do I connect them? Because if you connect xlr to it, where do you get back the signal? Bcs it's a headphone and mic at the same time
If your headset has a separate connector for the mic and headphone then you would likely need adapters to plug the mic into the mic input and headphones into the headphone output. If it’s an all in one connection (TRRS) then maybe there is an adapter that goes from TRRS to XLR male and trs. I’m not sure if something like that exists but maybe it does.
I'm a beginner and I'm looking to buy a laptop off of ebay. What is the minimum of GB's that will do the job? I've see 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB. Which one do I need to get?
16gb of ram would be the minimum that I would go with. Most laptops are actually kind of easy to upgrade ram. When you see one that you’re going to buy, look up to see if you can upgrade the ram. This way you could go with a lower ram and then upgrade later. 32gb of laptop ram is fairly cheap on Amazon.
I have electronic drums and they have a usb b output so I use a usb b to regular usb into my computer. I am using Jamkazam to jam with other band members on line. Do I still need an audio interface for this sort of configuration?
Hey, I have a question that I really hope you'll answer (or someone random in the comments) I have an (unpowered) pickup microphone that outputs using a male 1/4 cable. Do I need to purchase a cable like a 1/4 female to xlr male adapter to use with it (and would that adapter work with an unpowered microphone?) Also, if you know; what would be the best option in this situation to use this pickup microphone for recording using an audio interface?
How can you pause and go back to a session being recorded?. Like if the meeting you record for eg: and if they have a break and come back to the meeting and began again?. Also if you cannot here some one on your system how would you know to how to adjust when asking the person to speak louder in the meeting?.
Please sir, after installing my focusrite 4i4 everything thing works except the headphones which is not is not playing.how may I solve the headphones issue 🙏
The 4i4 has a separate volume for the headphones. Make sure that’s turned up. It might be possible that the headphones were muted in the Focusrite control software. You can check that. If that all looks good. Try disconnecting the 4i4 from your computer and plugging your headphones directly into the computer instead of the 4i4 and see if they work when connected directly. Just to make sure that the issue isn’t with the headphones. If your headphones require a 1/4” adapter in order to plug them into the 4i4, make sure the headphones are plugged into it all the way. If there is a way for you to test the 1/4” adapter with something else, you should do that to make sure the issue isn’t due to the adapter not working.

I don’t understand the pre-answered email Q’s from IK or ( maybe Focusrite 2i2 is not needed ??) Please just do simple style video of plugging in both midi & show how organ software sounds are able to get into keyboard from Win 10 Desktop. Thanks much!!!
If you just want a mic you could use a USB mic. If you want to use a xlr microphone then you will need a mic preamp of some sort. You could use an audio interface. Another option would be to get an analog mixer that has mic preamps built into it and then connect the output from the mixer to the line input on your computer’s built in sound card.
If you want to use your audio interface as your output device then yes you should get wired headphones. There are emulated drivers that allow you to route audio so instead of hearing the output through the interface you could hear it through your Bluetooth headphones. This creates some added latency as it bypasses the interfaces output.
It depends on your audio interface. If you have the Focusrite 2i2 then it has 2 separate volume controls. One for the headphones and one for the monitors. Some interfaces have this feature and some don’t.
Great video! But I have a question, is there a way to switch between playing audio from the monitors or the headphones (while devices are connected, sorry I'm really new to this)?
You can listen to both the monitors and headphones at the same time if you wanted. So to switch you could just turn one off. Don’t want to listen to monitors? Turn the volume of them down or turn them off and just listen to the headphones.
Sir, Can I use the R and L ports of an audio interface to connect to a mixer in a live playing environment ? Is it going to sound better over 3.5mm direct connection from laptop to a mixer ?
Yes you can do that. Will it sound better? Maybe. It depends on the quality of the on board sound card. Also depending on how loud or energetic the live situation is, people may not even notice the difference. An onboard soundcard at the very minimum should give you CD Quality audio which worked in live situations for years. Having an audio interface with the proper cables in your gig bag does give you a backup in case something goes wrong with your built in sound card. So you may want even a cheaper one for that reason. But if all you’re doing is playing audio through a computer into a mixer the cost may not be justified for an audio interface.
Get a free DAW to go with your audio interface. check out some of the best free DAWs available here ua-cam.com/video/5XfIBydFZC8/v-deo.html

Would the Solo work for a video one man podcast.....AT4040 microphone and SonyA7III. Thanks in advance.
hey there thank you for this video, i was wondering... do you know any daws that can work offline after installation
Mine makes a lot of white noise when playing with high gain. Returning
Can the focusrite connect to an iPad and would BandLab work ?
Can you please make one for behringer u phoria um2
With no DAW, can I just connect this audio interface to my MacBook Pro.
Then connect my shotgun mic to the interface, while connecting 3.5 mm TRS to Dual 1/4 in TS Cable to my camera 3.5 mic input?
Should my Mac sound input & output be set to the interface?
I’m just recording UA-cam videos!
So both monitors won’t have there own plug in?
Do u have to connect your headset to the interface? My headset is a usb connect to my desktop
I have a Sure MV88+ mic that I use to record my drumming to a cell phone....outstanding product....I play to streaming audio from UA-cam/laptop coming through my headphones......I want to be able to listen to what the MV88+ is picking up as well as the streaming audio together in my headphones and I want to be able to record both simultaneously on something other than a cell phone....would the products in this video facilitate this?
Thanks bro
Great this is exactly what i needed, thank you!. But do you have a more budget friendly suggestion other than focusrite 2i2?
The M-Audio Air 192|4 is more budget priced and still a decent interface.
@@AudioTechTV Thank you man, will check it out, keep up the great work.
Hey I’ve got a question, I just hooked up my focusrite but I’m getting an echo when playing, how would I fix that??
Everything works perfect on my PC & monitors but when I send as an mp3 or wav to another device the vocals all distorted.. can anyone help?
I've just found your video series. I use a Yamaha keyboard. Is this connected to the audio interface in the same ie into the Instrument socket?
Very nice video
so i dont have speakers or the correct headphone adapter to plug my interface into, so is there a way to hear the output through the headphones that are plugged into the computer?
hi thank you for all of this info but when i switch audio device to asio i cant see my interface there what should i do i have behringer um2
Thank you for the video! I have a question that can we also connect the phantom power to the interface?
If you have an external phantom power supply you could connect it to the audio interface but you won’t need it as this audio interface has its own phantom power supply. Most modern audio interfaces have their own phantom power built in.
So if I want to connect my digital piano I would connect into the instrument plug in ?
It depends on what type of output your digital piano has. If it has a line out then you could use line input. If it has an instrument output then you would connect to the instrument input.
I have a question would you have any recommendations for beginners on headset or any tips on what to look for?
I do have a question though:
I set up my mic recently and I've been getting crackling when I record.
@@fretworkband3204 It was indeed a bad connection! If the bottom isn't plugged in straight down then it'll do that crackling sometimes
My audio interface works in studio one for about 30 seconds and then it say, can’t connect please check hardware configuration.. can anyone help me with that?
say if i was going to through in a headphone>amplifier/dac>audio interface . how would i do that or do i do it a different way
I'm hooking my Interface from a KATANA Amplifier , should i select a "instrument output" or "Line output" on the interface? thanks
If the output of the Katana is a line output then select line output on your interface. If it’s instrument level then select that. It will likely be a line output though.
Great video, but I have a question, I have other cable for the mic, because it didn’t come with it, what can I do about it!
I have m track solo I connected my mic but it doesn’t work
Just bought the interface today.
Specs
Processor: ryzen 5 5600x
Gpu: rx 5700 xt
16 gbs of ram
what happens if condense mic is only responding to only your left or right ear only
And if I want to connect a headphone with mic, how do I connect them?
That's my microphone! Lol
And I have an audiogram3
I have electronic drums and they have a usb b output so I use a usb b to regular usb into my computer. I am using Jamkazam to jam with other band members on line. Do I still need an audio interface for this sort of configuration?
Did I miss how you hook it up to the computer?
Hey, I have a question that I really hope you'll answer (or someone random in the comments)
I have an (unpowered) pickup microphone that outputs using a male 1/4 cable. Do I need to purchase a cable like a 1/4 female to xlr male adapter to use with it (and would that adapter work with an unpowered microphone?)
Also, if you know; what would be the best option in this situation to use this pickup microphone for recording using an audio interface?
Will You Do Beginner Video? How do I plug Korg Kross 88 Midi Key-board workstation into
Windows 10 (usb midi) or 2i2 audio plug? I want to hear software sound come FROM (Win 10 Desktop) directly INTO (Korg Kross keyboard) as I play. (Must capture organ sound going into the Korg). I need to Record directly into my Korg Kross instead of Cakewalk or Pro…
I emailed IK Q&A: it’s their Hammond B-3X organ software. Wanted direct sound to go into Korg 88 keyboard so I can record their organ as I play my keys to Korg card track (it’s a music workstation) so I can create a beautiful organ recording at home.
I have midi & Audio plugs! Show USB & Focusrite 2i2 3rd Gen red box? Whichever? I was sold 2i2 but not told I couldn’t plug midi keyboard into it. I want that great organ sound to record into Korg from my Dell Win 10 that has the installed Hammond B-3X software. How to plug in to Korg workstation to hear & do a recording of organ sound, nothing like a Hammond B-3X! Just sound going straight into keyboard. I don’t understand the pre-answered email Q’s from IK or ( maybe Focusrite 2i2 is not needed ??)
Please just do simple style video of plugging in both midi & show how organ software sounds are able to get into keyboard from Win 10 Desktop. Thanks much!!!
Can you connect the audio interface to a Roland R-05 (cuz that’s what I have). Or is that unnecessary since you can record it on the computer?
but what if you only want to connect my mic in to my computer to for example for streaming and such?
If you just want a mic you could use a USB mic. If you want to use a xlr microphone then you will need a mic preamp of some sort. You could use an audio interface. Another option would be to get an analog mixer that has mic preamps built into it and then connect the output from the mixer to the line input on your computer’s built in sound card.
I use Bluetooth headphones that connect to my computer, do I have to get wired headphones that connect to the interface to make this work correctly?
If you want to use your audio interface as your output device then yes you should get wired headphones. There are emulated drivers that allow you to route audio so instead of hearing the output through the interface you could hear it through your Bluetooth headphones. This creates some added latency as it bypasses the interfaces output.
I purchased one on Amazon but I cant find name all it says is USB Audio Interface with Mic Preamplifier. Can I use just any driver?
It likely just installed the generic driver for your audio interface. Go to the manufacturers website and see if they have an ASIO driver for it.
I have Behringer Uphoria UM2. Can it hook up to Audacity?
Will I be able to switch from listening to headphones to studio monitors, or do I have to manually unplug?
It depends on your audio interface. If you have the Focusrite 2i2 then it has 2 separate volume controls. One for the headphones and one for the monitors. Some interfaces have this feature and some don’t.
Great video! But I have a question, is there a way to switch between playing audio from the monitors or the headphones (while devices are connected, sorry I'm really new to this)?
You can listen to both the monitors and headphones at the same time if you wanted. So to switch you could just turn one off. Don’t want to listen to monitors? Turn the volume of them down or turn them off and just listen to the headphones.
Will any mic work I have a rockvill brand
@@AudioTechTV # Thanks for the advice on such short notice. I'm gonna go for a mixer .
is installing the driver supposed to restart your computer??? idk mine did it as soon as it finished installing
Some driver setups might do that. You’re supposed to restart after you install them.
Would a Tqscam DP-03SD work as an audio interface. I'm at a dead end and have no idea how to record with a mic in Logic Pro X.
I have an hp laptop and that’s what I plan on using. Will I be able to connect my interface into this windows hp laptop? Thanks.😀
If your laptop has a USB port then it will work.
