It doesn’t have to be. On the focusrite, as long as your gain doesn’t blink red then you are good. Then use your ear in amplitube for the gain setting there. If it starts getting crackly and poppy then your gain is too high. But to answer your question more exactly, they don’t need to match exactly but they’ll probably be somewhat close.
Hey thank for your amazing video. I have a question. I have everything set as you did but have a major problem. I can not choose my output to be my laptops speakers. Is there a way to select that or i have to use headphones(I have scarlett solo interface)
I need to investigate this but there is a software called virtual instrument cable, and that lets you do what you need. Many thanks for the kind words! 🙏
When I select ASIO as the Input I don’t see my audio interface and can’t click on the list of outputs.. I’ve tried direct sound and the other options and can’t hear any audio please help.. I just wanna play my new guitar
That is a really good question, it messed me up for a while. So my understanding is that the guitar sound goes into the interface, then into the computer, then back out through the interface output. Does that make sense?
how do you get the audio interface to not have latency without using the direct monitoring? when i hear the playback through my pc headphones and speakers it's way delayed.

Hello. Does the red box, the audio interface, require it's own install? Is there a way to test the audio interface before installing Amplitude software? Thanks.
Since I have an high end audio system connected to my PC I would like to use that so I don't need to switch cables from the speakers to my audio interface everytime I want to play guitar. Is that possible? It's not for recording I just want to play along with backg tracks so latency might be less of an issue.
On the surface it sounds like you should be able to plug your audio system into the output of the interface, and then everything should work together. Maybe 😅
I understand your question. I have just bought a Scarlett Solo, I have connected to my PC which has a great Bose sound system. But I cannot get it to play through the PC. Not sure how I did it, but when I got a sound it had a huge delay! Any help appreciated.
The output would go into external speakers if you have them. Otherwise you can set your output to other computer speakers but the quality can be less reliable this way.
@kurtisparker alright. I'm gonna try it out. BTW this sounds dumb but I lost all interest in piano. Should I keep my yamagata psr e323 keyboard or sell it if I'm no longer gonna use it? And how much should I sell it for? I only like my Gibson key Paul studio guitar, the only thing I jam to and use when producing and mastering music lol Sorry I speak too much, I have autism so I apologise if I'm being rude
You can have external speakers that connect to the output of your interface OR just go to your computer sound settings and make sure that output is set to computer speakers/headphone jack…whatever you normally hear sound from.
Thanks so much for this tutorial! I'm new to instruments and can't seem to find an answer to this online - would the Scarlett 2i2 be able to handle both a gain thirsty mic like a SM7B and guitar/bass at the same time or would you need a cloud lifter or different interface altogether?
Yes it should totally do that just fine! I actually don’t know what a cloud lifter is but if you want an instrument and vocals at the same time, then no additional interface would be needed, just the scarlett!
If everything is set up correctly then you shouldn’t have an echo. If you also have a microphone set up and it’s close to the speaker that could cause an echo feedback loop.
hello, I've a question : is there a software for learning guitar whit the solo scarlett ? Like tablature software or the ubisoft rockstar ? Sorry for my english, I'm a french guy...
Hi there! I think your best bet is Rocksmith! I have heard good things! I’m not certain but it should be able to use the scarlett as the instrument for you to play!
Im trying to jam with youtube videos through an audio interface do i need the headphones plugged into the audio interface to hear the guitar or can i use my normal pc headphones to hear the music video and my guitar?
I have just bought a Scarlett Solo, I have connected it to my PC (which has a great Bose sound system) via USB. But I cannot get it to play through the PC. I use Guitar Rig 4 Software. Not sure how I did it, but when I got a sound (out of the Bose system), it had a huge delay! I don't want to have re connect speakers to the back of the Scarlett Solo Any help appreciated.
Hi sir. I just recently bought the focusrite 4th gen solo and also installed the Ableton live 12 and it works for my headphones but when I tried to install and open the amplitude, I can't hear anything on my headphones? How can I fix this? Thank you
So the sound will come out of the output from your interface, The easiest way to do this is with monitor speakers or headphones that use a 1/4 inch jack.
Hoping for some help here. I have a scarlett 2i2, it is plugged into my pc via usb, my guiitar is in input 1, my headphone is in the headphone jack- on input one I have line selected, in amplitube I have left channel as input 1, right as input too and the same for output using the focusrite. Still cannot hear my guitar :( any thoughts? thank you
No! Great question! You can use a standalone amplifier sim. So in this video all you need to do is download amplitube and make sure to check the box for the standalone amp. BUT! The DAW “Reaper” is great and free!
I keep having a problem whenever I try to click install for the actual software, it just tells me there's an application error and that the download path doesn't exist?? any ideas how to fix it?
Hey man, thanks for the video. I'm thinking about purchasing scarlet 2i2 instead of the amp. How do I connect scarlet with the speakers? Will it be scarlet's output into the speakers input or vice versa?
You would most likely connect interface to the computer and the computer the the speakers, under input you would choose interface and put up as the speakers you have connected
Hey! Sorry for the late reply, this sounds like a tricky problem, I'm not sure what would be going wrong here. My first thought is that you need to update the ASIO driver for the interface. This is one that can work for all interfaces I believe: asio4all.org/ I'm hoping once you download that it will locate your device and make it findable to other programs.
I am having a problem with my latency and buffer size on FL studio 2024. I've been trying to get my plugins to work but no matter what I set the rate and buffer size to I get delay. When I use my guitar through any of my vst amps I'm getting latency. Even with the standalone vst amps I'm getting 3ms latency. My DI is a focusrite Scarlett solo gen 3. My CPU is a i9 14900kf. Shouldn't I be able to keep it at 48000khz and get 2 or 1ms latency or less? I had it set before I had to reset my PC and now I forgot what I did to make everything work 🤦🏻♂️ I'm also confused because I can't get the output to play through my headphones. Only will play through my speakers. My setup is a mess right now. Any help is greatly appreciated.
3ms latency honestly sounds really good, most mere mortals can’t feel that delay. But that might not be a bad idea for another video. Your equipment sounds very capable to handle all of this. As for the headphones, do you have the headphone volume knob turned up?
@kurtisparker yeah it's all the way up. I can't seem to find the settings for output. The bugger issue is that I can feel the latency between the guitar and the software. Should I go up to like 88000khz and a bigger buffer to try to get it lower? I had it set perfect but my pc needed reset and now I am getting delay. I feel like every time I set up it's been a way of fixing this but it's been the same issue everytime.
I'm very new to all this myself. I haven't faced a huge latency issue yet but one thing that improved it even more for me was reducing the buffer size. Check your DAW or standalone amp sim settings and try smaller and smaller buffer levels but don't go too low because I think it stretches CPU usage to its max limit. Not sure if the that's the issue in your case but it's worth trying. Also, how are you monitoring the output? The Scarlett's headphone/speaker output should give you better latency than say, driving external speakers/headphones through your laptop.
That's perfect. But what about new AI App. that these days we can see on internet? You are expert in this field and I'd like to ask you share and guide your valuable info. regarding up to date Guitar AI applications for those can not buy Amp, Pedals, etc to play guitar perfectly. Thanks
Scuffham S-Gear is also very fair priced and does not offer a ton of amps, but 5 really good ones. I think that is preferable over tons of amps you will not actually use. At least I am happy with S-Gear. I use the internal effects (more are coming) as well as some external free or affordable effects which I run through the free version of Cantabile as a VST-host.
@@kurtispmusic . . . Scuffham S-Gear is a great stand alone as well as a vst plugin for your DAW. But keep in mind that, unlike Amplitude 5 CS, it is not a free amp sim. The price is $129, but occasionally, it will go on sale for $99. Is it worth it? I think so.
i had the same issue. all you have to do is click on the settings menu in the top right corner of the product manager app and change the download path to something different. hope this helps!
Yes it will! You'll just need to find a bass amp sim online so that you can make it sound nice and beefy. Also make sure that your speakers/headphones are capable of reproducing the correct bass frequencies.
i got everything all good, just cant figure out amplitube. ive paid for the full version but i cant get the tone to change whatsoever. tried every amp, every pedal, and all kinds of different presets but everything is just the basic clean tone
Question my be hard to explain. I have a scarlet 2i2 for my guitar. Then Neral Dsp as Amp Sim. Using AISO . But my volume know on my guitar does not affect the volume at all. What am I doing wrong?
Hi! That probably will depend on what pickups you have selected on your guitar. Try moving your pickup selector to a different setting and then adjusting the volume back and forth.
hi Kurtis. Can you use an existing guitar amplifier to output the sound via the Scarlett device or should it be standard speakers / headphones only? I'm using an Orange Crush and there's loads of feedback coming through.
I definitely have not tried that. So your set up is guitar -> focusrite -> amp In theory that should work but as you have discovered you might encounter extra noise. I think the best bet overall would be to use monitor speakers that hook right up to the scarlett.
Focusrite is just what i have! I think the volt is good too but i have not tried it personally. Maybe look at some reddit conversations? Although, i think they all get the job done!
hi, do you notice any lag when playing with headphones? i tried to use my thr5 v2 as an audio interface and once i got it set up i noticed about 2-300 ms lag between my strumming and the audio output in my headphones. is this also the case with the dedicated audio interfaces?
Try reducing the buffer size of your DAW/amp sim, step by step until you notice improvement. May not be what's causing the issue on your end but I've found this to be helpful. I personally haven't used Amplitude. There are a few people complaining about latency issues in these comments. I wonder if this particular amp sim is more demanding on computers, causing the lag. I'd also recommend trying different free amp plugins to figure out what's really causing the issue.

Yeah in the bottom right corner on the front you’ll plug them in right there! It is a 1/4 inch input.
I have a boss katana. I was told I could use it as a speaker when hooked up to an interface. Basically just play through the amp. I don’t have speakers for my pc, I’d like to do this…. Can you help?
An actual clear explanation the original who made Ik multimedia manager does not make it clear when using it
I am glad it helped! I hope to make more tutorial vids in the future!
If you want to switch effects while you are playing, how do you do that? By clicking with the mouse? Is there any pedal switch that could be useful for this kind of setup?
Thanks for the video!
I’m sure you could rig something up with a usb pedal to switch it hands free. I haven’t figured that out myself though.
Is it possible to use the same setup but with an electric-acoustic guitar and get all the different sounds?
Kind of yes… for example, distortion wont sound great on an electric acoustic.
thanks!
Should the gain settings etc. on the sound card be the same as the values in the amplitube program?
It doesn’t have to be. On the focusrite, as long as your gain doesn’t blink red then you are good. Then use your ear in amplitube for the gain setting there. If it starts getting crackly and poppy then your gain is too high.
But to answer your question more exactly, they don’t need to match exactly but they’ll probably be somewhat close.
@@kurtispmusic thankss
Hey thank for your amazing video. I have a question. I have everything set as you did but have a major problem. I can not choose my output to be my laptops speakers. Is there a way to select that or i have to use headphones(I have scarlett solo interface)
I need to investigate this but there is a software called virtual instrument cable, and that lets you do what you need.
Many thanks for the kind words! 🙏
@kurtisparker Thanks, man. I'll check it out
Do you think a Rocksmith cable would work instead of buying the Scarlett hardware?
When I select ASIO as the Input I don’t see my audio interface and can’t click on the list of outputs.. I’ve tried direct sound and the other options and can’t hear any audio please help.. I just wanna play my new guitar
Are you on Ableton? Or is it a different DAW, i can maybe see if i get something similar.
Can you use a bluetooth headphones for this?
Does the sound come throught my pc or the audio interface? Might be a dumb question but im pretty new to guitar stuff, especially audio interfaces
That is a really good question, it messed me up for a while. So my understanding is that the guitar sound goes into the interface, then into the computer, then back out through the interface output. Does that make sense?
Would this work with an electric acoustic guitar with an input built in?
Yes definitely!
how do you get the audio interface to not have latency without using the direct monitoring? when i hear the playback through my pc headphones and speakers it's way delayed.
Ok. But what about speakers? What speakers should I buy with this combo?
I just use my headphones through my audio interface
Can I use Focusrite scarlet solo (3rd gen) USB (B) ?
Yeah man that will do the same thing! 🤘
hey i have a problem. when i made an account and i got into the app a message came up saying "application error"
he volume/disk where the download path
C:\Users\*****\OneDrive\Documents\IK Multimedia\IK Product Manager
you've selected should be does not exist. Please close this window to select a new path in preferences. (code: 2110)
how do i fix...?
Same
at the top right of the IK Multimedia Product Manger window you can click the settings tab (next the the house) and change the the downloads folder
I’m tried downloading amplitude but it tells me I need 5 devices authorized and isn’t allowing me to download it till I authorize all devices?
That sounds strange eduardo, maybe someone else here has come across that problem. Im sorry i cant help 😢
So where does output goes to from the Audio Interface? What speaker did you use?
The output would go into external speakers if you have them. Otherwise you can set your output to other computer speakers but the quality can be less reliable this way.
@@kurtispmusic thank you for your kind response, so monitor speaker will be suffice for the job?
@sheridankamal Totally! I have the presonus eris monitor speakers, they seem to be a great value!
@@kurtispmusic thanks again for the recommendation
what are your thoughts on the iRig? I wanna use something easy, and simple while I'm on the go too.
Yeah the iRig is awesome! 👍
@kurtisparker it will work with amplitube? I'm getting that.
@@HeyHammadAusafi Yes that should work roughly in the same way as the Scarlett!
@kurtisparker alright. I'm gonna try it out. BTW this sounds dumb but I lost all interest in piano. Should I keep my yamagata psr e323 keyboard or sell it if I'm no longer gonna use it? And how much should I sell it for? I only like my Gibson key Paul studio guitar, the only thing I jam to and use when producing and mastering music lol
Sorry I speak too much, I have autism so I apologise if I'm being rude
Do I also need a Speaker or amp? Through which I will hear the guitar?
This needs part 2 for the recording part and part 3 for editing.
Good idea! 👍
is it have echo when use guitar and audio interface with external speaker?
If everything is set up correctly then you shouldn’t have an echo. If you also have a microphone set up and it’s close to the speaker that could cause an echo feedback loop.
@@kurtispmusic if i only use guitar then no echo?
@dinhdnam5427 Yes! If thats all then you should avoid echoes!
@@kurtispmusic thank you . your tutorial is too good
@dinhdnam5427 Thanks a lot man! 🤘
hello, I've a question : is there a software for learning guitar whit the solo scarlett ? Like tablature software or the ubisoft rockstar ?
Sorry for my english, I'm a french guy...
Hi there! I think your best bet is Rocksmith! I have heard good things! I’m not certain but it should be able to use the scarlett as the instrument for you to play!
@@kurtispmusic okay thx I think I will take a trial on it.
Hello, in the AUDIO/MIDI section I cannot select Technology ASIO, do you know what the problem might be??
You might need to reinstall asio drivers for your interface
@@kurtispmusic Problem solved, thanx, Bro
Im trying to jam with youtube videos through an audio interface do i need the headphones plugged into the audio interface to hear the guitar or can i use my normal pc headphones to hear the music video and my guitar?
Headphones plugged into audio interface will be the best option. There is another solution im exploring, ill be posting another video.
Bummer, thank you!
what can i do about the latency i get?
Yo need to adjust your buffer size. I have mine at 256 but you may want to go even lower. And most daws should have a driver error compensation tool.
I don't want to have re connect speakers to the back of the Scarlett Solo
Any help appreciated.
This sounds like you need to go into settings and reduce your buffer size. Hopefully that could help!
My setting doesn't have an audio/midi tab. It only says automation as a tab.
That sounds interesting, are you using ableton? Or a different daw?
What about speakers?
The best option is to buy external monitors OR monitor headphones that have a quarter inch end. Im exploring another option that i will post soon!
Hi sir. I just recently bought the focusrite 4th gen solo and also installed the Ableton live 12 and it works for my headphones but when I tried to install and open the amplitude, I can't hear anything on my headphones? How can I fix this? Thank you
Are you trying to use amplitube as a plugin or as a standalone app?
@@kurtispmusic I already fix it sir. Thanks. By the way, do you know how to insert back tracking tracks on ableton?
Where does the sound come from?
So the sound will come out of the output from your interface, The easiest way to do this is with monitor speakers or headphones that use a 1/4 inch jack.
Got it. Thanks!
Hoping for some help here. I have a scarlett 2i2, it is plugged into my pc via usb, my guiitar is in input 1, my headphone is in the headphone jack- on input one I have line selected, in amplitube I have left channel as input 1, right as input too and the same for output using the focusrite. Still cannot hear my guitar :( any thoughts? thank you
Do I absolutely need a daw to play guitar with a software?
No! Great question! You can use a standalone amplifier sim. So in this video all you need to do is download amplitube and make sure to check the box for the standalone amp. BUT! The DAW “Reaper” is great and free!
why cant i select the ASIO as the technology?
You might need to double check that the ASIO drivers are installed properly.
How much does a amp/pedal cost on the program
My input doesnt show my interface I hear my guitar out of speakers but the amplitude is not making any sounds, delay, amp, etc, not working
Hey! Sorry for the late reply, this sounds like a tricky problem, I'm not sure what would be going wrong here. My first thought is that you need to update the ASIO driver for the interface. This is one that can work for all interfaces I believe:
asio4all.org/
I'm hoping once you download that it will locate your device and make it findable to other programs.
I had it set before I had to reset my PC and now I forgot what I did to make everything work 🤦🏻♂️
I'm also confused because I can't get the output to play through my headphones.
Hi I recently got a Scarlett solo interface and I’ve got a amp sim but the latency is kinda messing with me is there a way I can lower it ?
I'm very new to all this myself. I haven't faced a huge latency issue yet but one thing that improved it even more for me was reducing the buffer size. Check your DAW or standalone amp sim settings and try smaller and smaller buffer levels but don't go too low because I think it stretches CPU usage to its max limit. Not sure if the that's the issue in your case but it's worth trying.
Also, how are you monitoring the output? The Scarlett's headphone/speaker output should give you better latency than say, driving external speakers/headphones through your laptop.
Great video with a succinct tutorial, Akatsuki approved!
Haha thanks man! Hoping to upload soon again! Life is hitting me hard lately!
Haven't heard of that one but sounds like an excellent option! 👍
I think so.
Is there a way I could change the download path. When I pressed install for the AmpliTube 5 in the product manager it brought up a application error.
i had the same issue. all you have to do is click on the settings menu in the top right corner of the product manager app and change the download path to something different. hope this helps!
@krak. Thank you for the helpful advice!
@@krak. It worked! Thank you!!!
Does this setup work with bass guitars?
Yes it will! You'll just need to find a bass amp sim online so that you can make it sound nice and beefy. Also make sure that your speakers/headphones are capable of reproducing the correct bass frequencies.
i got everything all good, just cant figure out amplitube. ive paid for the full version but i cant get the tone to change whatsoever. tried every amp, every pedal, and all kinds of different presets but everything is just the basic clean tone
Is that tame impala ?
So you'd recommend a Focusrite? I was thinking of a Universal Audio Volt
I am trying this for so long, the only problem i have i cant play guitar trough amplitube and play youtube or Spotify at the same time. This problem is frustrating the sh!t out of me. Do you have any suggestions??
@@alexandervanunen3873 yeah I’m pretty sure you just need external speakers through the 2i2 or whatever audio interface you use and have the UA-cam or Spotify go through monitor speakers
Oh crap how did i miss this comment! @sstevns18 has got the right idea! You do need external speaker plugged in the output of the focusrite or you need 1/4 inch headphones into the focusrite.
Also make sure to set your computer sound to go through the focusrite (set focusrite as playback device)
I apologize again!
@kurtisparker no worries ! I haven't got the chance to try it out but I will look In to it tonight thanks !!
