Thanks! I was pretty frustrated by how much difficulty I had getting mine to flow. This shows I wasn’t doing anything wrong. It just takes a bit.

I started my fountain pen journey years ago using F or EF nibs because I tend to write small in planners, but once I ventured out to M Stub 1.1, B, and BB, I have had the most fun and enjoyable experiences. Now I enjoy them all! Custom grinds will be next on my list. I just ordered my first Opus 88 mini with an extra nib yesterday. Anxious to try this filling mechanism. Thanks for sharing. 🖋

I also have three opus 88. Love them. I swap out modified Pilot parallel nibs in them, they make great marks.. and I agree the opus nibs are wonderful, I have an extra fine and a stub..
First prime the Section by slowly filling the Section opening with about 5 drops of ink, held over a paper towel, until a drop falls out of the nib and the ink level in the Section goes down into the Section (so that when you put it to the side ink does not spill out.) Fill the pen barrel. Screw on the primed Section. Open the valve and it should start to write immediately.
Can’t find it at the moment but I watched a video where the guy, after filling the pen and replacing the nib section, didn’t quite completely screw it down before loosening the back end. He then tightened both down and the pen worked on the first try. I don’t have an Opus 88 or any other eye dropper so take that for what it’s worth.

Prime your nib by dunking it in the bottle of ink a bit before writing. That'll help start the flow. Same as water, but no need to dilute....
16:50 The housing probably isn't screwed in firmly enough. It won't stain or do anything to the frosted finish on the inside of the section no matter how long you leave it in there(it's happened to me a couple times, but from the nib end). I wouldn't put silicone grease on the o-ring, because it is sitting right up against the little housing needle, so the grease doesn't have to move far to make its way in there and clog the ink slit at the back of the feed.

I think the problem was you kept closing the valve. Best to leave it open and let the ink flow down into the feed.
Leave the piston open a little..
Btw only the demonstrator and Flow models can take the pilot parallel nib..
It's not a piston, it's a valve! It won't push the ink.

I am an artist I am currently looking for a fountain pen to draw with a fluid line, a good flow of ink, a good reserve of ink, and resistant. What would also be the right inks to accompany this product? thank you for your comeback
Do you have any burping problems with eyedropper pens? Ive never been able to pull the trigger on an eyedropper because Ive read advice saying you need to keep them at least half full.
I have not had any burning issues with my eye dropper pens, but then I have not traveled around with them. They have been fine at home at least. Screwing closed the valve should prevent most of that on the Opus 88s-so they claim.
If you lower the piston a little filling in easier..

Hello! Nice review ! Quick question. Does it have any ink burping issue that eyedropper pens usually have? ... especially when you have the gasket rod pulled back to allow free flow of ink into the feed? 🤔

Aloha! Nice to see both demo Opus 88 models side by side as I am deciding on which one to get! I actually own a Opus 88 Jazz and it's a good writer, but it's in the white color, so I can't enjoy the ink sloshing around in the barrel. What further can you add about the Opus 88 broad nib? Did you find it too broad and how would you say it compares to other broad nibs from other brands? BTW, Opus 88 also uses a #6 Bock nibs/units in the Bela and another model I can't remember. I believe the non-demo, colored Omar (maybe an older, discontinued model?) also had the smaller #5 nib as well as the Koloro model. Mahalo, Thomas
The opus 88 broad nib is very smooth and lovely to write with-I would say one of the best broad nibs I’ve tried. It’s “average” broad size I would say. It can’t compete with a Pelikan m800 broad nib, but nothing can😊
Hey Thomas, if you like the look of the Jazz best out of the Demo/Omar/Jazz, there is now a transparent version of the Jazz as well(and also a completely frosted transparent version). It has rhodium trim instead of the matte black used on the Demo/Omar though, which I think is absolutely hideous, but tastes are personal. The frosted one is called the "Holiday Jazz" and uses gunmetal trim, and the one that's similar to the Demo/Omar with rhodium trim is simply called the "Transparent Jazz".
@@MysteryArts Thanks for the reply with your personal experience with the Opus 88 broad nib. It is definitely on the top of my "to buy" list, but after seeing you write with the 1.5mm stub, that too is calling my name! Luckily swapping the nibs are super easy with these pens. Thanks again, Thomas
@@osirisgolad Thanks Rick for the suggestion. Yes, I did see the introduction of both demo models of the Jazz right after I bought the white one! Yes, I am not crazy about the black trim used with the demo models, so thanks for pointing out that one has the gunmetal and the other has a rhodium - I thought they were both rhodium. I was hoping to get a different model from the Jazz just for the sake of getting a different shape pen. Being able to swap nib units would be very convenient .... Thanks again for the information. @@kauaiphotography I think that I prefer the stub to the broad, if that helps😊. They are both nice though.
You have successfully convinced me not to get an Opus 88... to slow and complex to get the ink flow to the tip of the nib
I’ve since learned that you can get it started much easier by dipping the nib in the ink bottle to give the ink a head start in the nib.
Why don’t you put a few drops directly in the feed while you’re filling the reservoir?
Since I filmed this video, I've started just dipping the nib in the bottle after filling and that pretty much does the trick.
