@Daxton Rhett I watch on Flixzone. You can find it on google :)
For those that may not make it past the first forty minutes of this spectacular jazz number, with Angel Romero on classical guitar, the encore at the end, a special jazz ballad by George Shearing is a masterpiece. Not only his masterful jazz piano playing but his beautiful vocals are undeniable. Then one last final piece with Shearing on piano and such a fine dynamic accompaniment from the bassist, Brian.
[I was looking for the credits in the information box under the screen but I could not see a list identifying the other musicians.]
Uno dei dischi che ho amato di più da ragazza... Grazie di avere pubblicato questo concerto!!!! woowwww
in memoriam of the French composeur Claude Bolling. He died some weeks ago.
Congratulations to theese high talent musicians.
I just read the obit on the New York Times today. What a loss but great legacy.
Oh noooo… i didnt know he passed away already. I was in high school when i listened to his three albums (suites for jazz piano and flute, violin, guitar) which belonged to my eldest sister. I’m glad i came across this. Thanks for sharing
I think one of the most remarkable things about this is that the Piano part, solos included, are through composed, meaning no chordal based improv; the notes are all written out. Why is this so notable? George Shearing was BLIND!!! HE MEMORIZED THE WHOLE THING!!!! If you listen to the interplay of the piano with the Guitar, I think you'll see why I think it's such a feat; respect to George Shearing!
Actually the jazz parts were all his own improvisations, not those written by Bolling. A remarkable feat nonetheless.
Possibly the greatest guitar performance ever on tape; with additionally great performances on all instruments.
I agree, all of them are extremely good musicians.
I remember watching this on A&E TV back in the 80s; the 1st half of the show was Angel's solos and this was the 2nd half. Thoroughly loved it and still do. Thank you for posting!
Wow. I forgot all about that first piece - Hispanic Dance with a Blue Touch - I loved it as a kid. THANK YOU!
I looked up the definition of the word COOL, and it gave me the link to this video.
Agreed. This is really COOL!
Have you heard Bolling's sonatas for two pianists? you might enjoy the contrast between the classical and jazz pianist. They SMOKE!
Great job!
This is exquisite! What talent! Thank you for sharing this!!!
This a fun-to-listen concerto (or suite). The difference between Angel's sparkling performance (as well as recording) and that of Alexander Lagoya (the dedicatee) is absurd, like night and day in terms of tone, chops, fluency, swing, musicality. But back then, very few players were technically in Angel's league. It's a shame this is not played or recorded more often.
Thanks for sharing this rare video~~
Truly excellent !
Thanks for posting. I believe I went to this concert. Please fix the artist names. Its Manne and Torff
I like this much more than the Bolling/Lagoya version
Very interesting concert..
Es,para mi gusto, el concierto de referencia de esta magnífica obra y, cuya interpretación,por parte de estos 4 excelentes músicos, supera la versión original a mi juicio.Magistral, una JOYA.
Thank you!
Que tesouro!
🇧🇷
Só falta o Ray Brown! 😇
5 people will never understand music
Seems like one of them does now because there are 4 downvotes now
Seven legally deaf now in 2019
Not to "understand" but love it !
Shearing was so confused during the whole Serenade lol
He was confused. the first section was supposed to be a guitar solo, then its repeated with the trio added. The drummer started early, so Shearing was trying to go with it. :)
