When I was a boy of about 12 my father, a pianist, woke me at about 2 AM. Joe Pass and Oscar Peterson were on TV. Dad knew I was keen on the guitar and I always tried to participate in the Friday night jam sessions at our home. So, Dad got me up and the two of us sat in front of the B&W television and were mesmerized by the genius pouring from the tiny speaker.
That was my intro to Joe Pass and now, nearly 50 years later his musicianship still astounds me.
Thank you for posting this. I will watch it again and again. Whenever I see Joe Pass performing solo I am taken back to that night.
my folks took me to see these two with Oscar Peterson, I was a kid, will never forget it! Listen to them still .

Thanks for sharing!
these memories are the best, specially in this way,
cheers.
Yes Joe Pass, Probably one off the Gretest Jass Guitarist, And what can you say about Ella. Supreme.
You are so fortunate to have had this musical connection with your dad. I did too. Our living room contained a grand piano and a Conn theater organ with full pedal board. A few evenings a month we'd play duets, mostly blues-based with lots of improvising. As I went through my mid-teens I experienced typical adolescent rebellion and would instigate lots of silly arguments. Our music sessions kept us from losing touch completely and by the time I turned 19 we were reconciled. I have no doubt music enriched our relationship and might well have saved it.
Wow, look! No autotune, no DJ, no flashing lights, no backup dancers, no BS... just talent, soul + top shelf musicianship.
Totally what I thought when watching this, because it is so real!
I love Ella. She never took herself too seriously which allowed her to add a lot of fun into her music. When you have that much talent and soul you are just magical! 🥰
This concert was my motivation to make a late in life decision to learning to play guitar. Joe and Ella are amazing.
I feel that Joe can have one of two effects on current and prospective guitar players. The first being to run straight for your guitar and sit down and play, and the second one being for one to go "oh, hell to the no!" and never touch a guitar again in frustration of how brilliant he is and how effortless he makes it look!
yeah man ❤❤❤❤
I bet you can really shred now being 2 years later. I love endless shredding. Just a mindless barrage of notes. Pure technique.
That's why I love Joe Pass.
@@isheetfromaswhole3657 It's definitely not Joe Pass' playing that's "mindless" here, son.
ahhh...
I've seen Joe a bunch, particularly around this time.
Never with Ella, though.
Last time was especially unforgettable - with Sarah Vaughan at the Blue Note, Greenwich Village NYC, 1989.
Was newlywed, my wife had been raised on classical music and ballet, and she was so blown away (she's a very accomplished classical pianist and ballerina). She loved that I turned her on to jazz... most memorable jazz evening was a table for 2 at the jazz café on the corner of our street and Broadway, practically at arm's length from McCoy Tyner... I saved up $ for a month for that - and wow, was it ever worth it! Changed her life!
Music has given us all so much; we should never take it for granted, we are fortunate. Joe shares the top shelf with the greatest of the greats. I'm obviously a guitarist... 'nuff said.
Peace and Alohas, y'all
Great story! I dig your candor. Peace
Thanks for sharing, sir!
Much love to ya'!
Saw Joe and Ella at the Hollywood Bowl, one of her very last performances. They are soulmates.
indeed...
Thanks for sharing your great memories. Yes, you are fortunate, man!
🥇watching during covid - 19 2020 lockdown
Me too.It just makes me annoyed that ,as a mediocre, "nearly" jazz guitarist I will never be in even the same universe as Joe Pass. That there is Genius.
@@djangorheinhardt Ella's scatting is priceless.
One of the great guitarist in jazz music ,really enjoyable
Covid and wuhan forever
Can you imagine being there seeing these two legends sharing a stage? Beyond a dream.
This is amazing.....Joe Pass could simply play, and play and play. Saw him and Ella in WDC in....1985-86.....hands down one of the best performances I've been to....EVER! To top it off, lost my wallet that night and someone actually tracked me down (PRE-cell, PRE-internet) and returned it....in the mail...every penny and was in it. Joe and Ella brought me good karma.
Good things attract good people...
thanks for sharing that is a cool story, must have been awesome to see him play
I am mesmerized with this concert... In the hands of Joe Pass guitar seems like ANOTHER instrument. Envy. A joy to hear and see. Super humans, these persons, sharing beauty to the world.
Had a similar thing happen to me pre-cell phone/internet. Good folks seem to find each other. People like Joe are the watering holes.

Dang 84 dislikes, those people don't understand the soul in this music, unlike today's. I wish I could have met Joe, or even played with him. So sad we've lost all these good musicians in the past, and for so many to be ignorant of their presence.
84 people think miley jyruss looks better
***** orly? I think Joe's moustache makes him look that much better.
I heard from a bassist who played with Joe back in the days. Joe told him that he still felt like he knew so little about this form of art. What a humble guy.
donfully Compare someone of that skill and talent and modesty to.... Well, any of the mainstream artists today that you'd care to mention... And the difference makes you wonder what's happened to the music of my generation (I'm 21). This video has
I love the way that Joe knows when to be The Soloist and when to be the accompanist. When he's accompanying Ella he stays in the background dropping in those beautiful chords exactly where they should be. Two people Joe and Ella at the top of their craft making the extremely difficult look so very easy.
Well said!
very well said man, joe is a completly absolute genius!!!
Two fabulous artists, each in their own right, Ella and Joe. I've never heard a solo guitarist concert before, this is lovely, the man certainly has the talent on his guitar, I never knew an "axe" could be so mesmerizing! I'll be back to hear this again!
I got to see Joe Pass for my 18th birthday present at the Philadelphia Academy of Music. Ella's, the Count Basie band, and Oscar Peterson. A life long memory.
There are guitarists, there are jazz guitarists, then there's Joe Pass, add Ms. Fitzgerald & it's Ella mental...
Forgive them Father, for the dislikers know not what they do...
I'm sure these so called "dislikers" have though that the dislike button is something like scroll-down button...

I take it she never became your wife. My pal tells me that he did not know what happiness was until he got married - then it was too late !
Great line! Actually, she did! Not much happiness happened, however. Her hateful habits have haunted her hubby, horribly!
Ella Fitzgerald had every tool in the bag.... i adore this woman.
Me too! Even though you can tell she was starting to get sickly. She couldn't remember her lyrics, but even so; that VOICE! She STILL had it.
What do you get when you take the greatist guitarist and the greatest vocalist? This is a treasure
I went to see Ella one year when I was in Memphis, TN. She was the only performer listed on the bill, but out comes Joe Pass to play solo guitar, then he and Ella do some duets, then bass and drums were added for the rest of the concert. Man, that was a wonderful night!
Ciao Clynt. Sei stato fortunato ad assistere dal vivo ad un loro concerto.

That's incredible. That would've been surreal for me; I wouldn't have believed it actually was happening.

Been playing drums/percussion for 40 years, tried to teach my son to follow my footsteps, but no, he plays guitar; his favorite Joe Pass, ain't got a problem with that

One voice, one guitar. That's all they needed.
This video should be in a museum. This video IS a museum.
i play the guitar for 35 years now ... and I think i must live for 300 years more to play like joe and to anticipate his musicaltiy, i love what he plays for the rest of my days, i am very very impressed, he is a genious!
The talent this man has brings me to tears. Those progressions are so golden.
No pitch control needed, naturally perfect, God gifted
not god gifted. stop giving credit to your delusions for musicians who practice hard all the time. God has nothing to do with it, or the world would be different. god is a lazy pos by all accounts.
Being a complete Jazz Combo in ONE Instrument: Joe Pass is just amazing! The Greatest!
OMG I Love this Guitarsound ..
I Play Hendrix , Cream Clapton etc. But sometimes i dont wanna Learn or Play , Just Listen , and Joe Pass is REALLY one of my ALL Time Favs in Jazz
I LOVE that sound ...
I had the good fortune to see Joe and Ella at the Westchester Theater in '75(?), Oscar Peterson and The Count Basie Orchestra where also on the bill, I watched Joe Pass from the 7th row with opera glasses. His blistering speed and amazing phrasing mesmerized me. I have to say after these 40 years and watching these videos I might have thought to look at his right hand.
wow.... bet that was a fantastic show! I had the incredible pleasure of meeting Oscar before he passed away. Got to shake that big gigantic hand. His soul and demeanor was so peaceful and kind and playful.
You're very lucky...I had to attend Joe in Parma playing with Julian Bream but onjy Julian played 'cause Joe was already sick :((((
That must have been the same tour that I saw in Portland Oregon.... I was spellbound when Joe Pass just came out with his guitar and his amp, and played just like this video.
It was a moment I'll never forget
I enjoyed every second if this performance.... could not help to get misty eyed with the Cry me a River... Priceless... Joe should get a speeding ticket for playing Avalon... : ) Unbelievable....
Ella has got to be the greatest female vocalist I've ever heard! Just perfect elocution! Phenomenal! The voice control is incredible, of course love joe pass!!!!
She is
I love it at 2:53. Check this out--
After "Virtuoso Joe" dazzles us, as usual, with his incredible, fluid, bebop, saxophone-like lines with ease, WITH HIS EYES CLOSED!
He gets surprised by the camera close-up but, like a true and rare pro, doesn't miss a beat, or a chord, or a lick, and he cracks a sweet, warm smile and just keeps WAILING, folks --Whoa!
Joe, we sure miss you, and thanks for everything you did for music and art. Your legacy will live FOREVER.
Most of all, thanks for your courageous example of conquering your heroin addiction to deliver us "the goods" (as in, excellent and timeless music) for many, many years while you were around on this here planet Earth.
Thanks, Joe, for giving me your precious time and energy after your live solo concert performance to answer my question about which chord you used on your composition, "Two Track Trip", from the obscure Guitar Player Magazine record you recorded a half a decade earlier at that point.
I could tell, Joe, were tired after the performance giving it your all --and, most of all, of the usual, "You're great, Joe!" fawning fan stuff by all the people who mobbed you on stage after the gig because you could have told me to "Get lost!"
But NO!
Joe, you calmly thought for a moment, --and I'll never forget this, --you told me the EXACT chord, so I could understand, --being a novice at that point, --in how to figure out what it was by your straight forward explanation of Jazz Music theory in a just a few minutes. WOW!
People, I stand before all of YOU, --past, present and future to say, NO money could buy, and, NOTHING, could compare to those few minutes with the sadly late, but great Joe Pass.
Joe Pass, may you be firing up that ole Jazz bandstand where ever you are! We LOVE you, Joe, and always will! ;_; [then wipes tears from eyes]
Peace.
Thanks for the share dude. :)
need to learn all those chord ASAP.. its sk good
Gotta say ... a lifetime of education on that fretboard!
So what was the chord and the music theory explanation?
Greatest guitarist of all time.no contest.
What an overstatement, there is no greatest guitarist.. Besides you seem to be forgetting Django Rheinhardt, Chet Atkins, Paco de Lucia, George Benson and Tommy Emmanuel just to drop a few names of other equally great guitarists in there...
George Fasey
Django compared to Joe Pass is like greape and wine.....

having found an idol means always "X" is FOR ME the gratest - all those admired artists became famous because of their uncomparable skills..all of them are "the greatest" for all the different tastes on the world. I like the excitement in all those postings - for me there is nothing about "over- underrated". Just listen and close your eyes, forget the world around you..
I could listen to Joe Pass all night and day.
Music doesn't get much better than this. Ella could make the happy birthday song sound elegant, and Joe Pass is like an entire orchestra all on his own. What a great pair they make.

When I was in the army band stationed at Ft. McClellan AL we made our way to Atlanta for the Kool Jazz Festival. The headline that night was Ella, Joe Pass, Ray Brown, Oscar Peterson, and Louis Bellson. That was pretty hard to beat.
Do you remember the year? I saw a similar show in Chicago at the Kool Jazz Festival in 1981. Ella was dazzling! She forgot some of the words to "Old McDonald" but she made it magical. I have goose bumps just writing this.
@@stevencudney102 Hi Steve. It would have been the summer of 1981 or 1982 I think.
They are just playing. Playing with music. Playing with human voice. Two geniuses at play. Amazing.
what a glorious treat.... us being able to enjoy gems like these !
Joe Pass - was amazing musician! The best from the bests! Unforgettable!
When you play and sing at this level there may be different players/singers but there is no one better. Two absolute masters at their best enjoying each others art and making beautiful art together.
If you took Tommy Emanuel and Brent Mason and put them together into one human being, you get Joe Pass. Don't get me wrong, I think and I have to believe anyone who plays or loves great guitar has to give Emanuel and Mason their due but Joe Pass, what can you say, he truly makes the guitar as complete as the piano. By the way, no tricks, no taps, no two hands on the neck, that's not to take away for all the great players who do that but again, Joe Pass, wow!!! Ella, a singers singers singer!!! Jazz improvisation at it's finest. So great that this was done. How fortunate we all are that we got to hear these people. Also, pay attention to the feel, these two folks swing like crazy.
That voice!!! That guitar!!! my God... This is music, you kids.
Gorgeous
man joe pass’ playing is from another planet
For me Joe is the best will ever be
Joe pass was born old with a guitar in his hands. The best.
This is my first time hearing Ella Fitzgerald, and she has such an amazing voice!
set aside the next few years and listen to everything she did. you'll feel good about it
@@97477tim great advice!
Primera vez, tambien, que la escucha, me gustò mucho.
At this 1975 performance Ella was nearing 60 and her voice was hardening a bit, losing some of its sweetness. Listen to some of her work from the '40s and '50s, both jazz and pop oriented, and you will get a better idea of her extraordinary range and tonality.
I graduated from high school in '75. I only started to get how good stuff like this really was. However, even a few years later, NOBODY I knew would have gone to a jazz concert with me. I lost out on so much. I should have called my older cousin in St. Louis - he was aware of everything that had to do with great jazz and blues. This is too good for words.; so was he.
His playing is sublime. It calls to something deeply human in me.
It's amazing to see how Joe's having a good time while he plays. Always smiling. Awesome performance!
My theory (among many) is that musicians that are having a good time - joy as it were - are the best at their craft. I love to watch Dave Brubeck play - he is totally lost in his love of playing the piano!
I bet you anything that had a lot to do with accompanying one of the greatest singers in history.
This is as good as it gets, true strangeness, Ella and Joe, taking us well far out beyond whatever your beliefs are. This is divine partnership. True love and COMPLEX. So pristine. So joyous!
The combination of Ella's vocals and Joe's accompaniement is exquisite. This is some of the greatest music ever recorded. My thanks to whoever downloaded this session.
Joe Pass knows how to lay down those chord melodies, wow! Ella Fitzgerald adds the cherry on top that voice just melts me. You turn the table on me and cry me a river is just beautiful coming from these two.
Joe and Ella shine on You are the Sunshine of my life.
By 1975, clearly, Joe Pass had achieved the title of Worldwide Grandmaster of Stank-face, Forever and All-Time.
I kid because I love. This performance = ❤🧡💛💚💙💜
I wasnt born yet but i sooooo glad someone video recorded alot of her performance ....her genius bring tears to my eyes ...
The unsurpassable Joe Pass. THE maestro of the guitar.
Splendeur, luxuriance, aisance,un orchestre a lui tout seul!Inouï!Et tout ça mine de rien!Il est dedans et nous aussi,on flotte dans l 'espace comme des plumes!
a true master of jazz guitar, so smooth and effortless!
Joe plays guitar like a piano, with ease.
Well I wouldn't say he plays the guitar like a piano. There's this guitarist named Yvette Young from the band Covet. Her first instrument was a piano so when she transferred to guitar, she used both hands on the neck to play. If you're interested, look up one of her songs where you can see her play. Her song "Aries" is on youtube and you can watch her hands and see how the piano influenced her playing there.
@@datdeerdude5139 I love Yvette Young! And CHON. But even though Joe Pass doesn’t do tapping I see how stylistically he does remind me of a piano player, but more to do with how a piano would express the mixtures of chords and notes (one of the things that also made me fall in love with CHON) kind of way. Piano came to mind when I heard Joe’s “Night and Day” for reference.
But yeah @Z D Yvette Young and CHON are both newer artists but definitely worth listening to and witnessing how influenced by this, some people are carrying on and pushing the music that can be played with a guitar even to this day!
There are so many awesome guitar players out there, but I'll bet damn near every one of them will say "Joe's the man. Plain and simple."
There is no finer music to be heard, regardless of era or style. Joe and Ella are tops.
Complete and total mastery.
In all reality, it's completely scary that someone can be that good. I mean, they've somehow gone way beyond the human and into some element of the stratospheric. It really is too much to take in all at once.
"regardless of era or style." go home you're drunk
Just gonna get this out there, I listen to multiple genres, and highly enjoy this music, but if you are putting music up as a objective thing, you are sorely mistaken, no finer music to you? Maybe to you, not everyone.
This avid listener to jazz (since 1955) agrees that it is impossible to seriously find any fault in the music-making of either Joe or Ella. One indicator of Ella's mastery is that nobody except Mel Torme could match her ability to scat. (Mind you, it's hard to think of more than a handful of other singers -- in the whole history of jazz -- whose scat singing doesn't cause the listener to squirm.)
The BEST BEST BEST Single Jazz Guitar i EVER hear ..and i know Them ALL !!!
Joe Pass ..SUCH a JAZZ MASTER!!
class, talent, warmth, genius chops and deep humility - what a combo..
Beautifully put sir.
You can still here that youth in Ella's voice... Truly timeless
I noticed it too, and knew i had never heard another person sound like that. Cool.
THE IMMORTAL, JOE PASS, Lucky to hav seen him in santa monica ca in 1989.
Two geniuses on stage at the time. It doesn't get any better. I was fortunate enough to have seen Ella with Oscar Peterson, but regretfully, never got to see Joe Pass live.
I saw ELLA with the COUNT BASIE ORCHESTRA London 1976.. MAGICAL
truly mesmerizing! Joe and Ella made it seem like performing at this astounding level was just a leisurely walk in the park.
It was! Real style...
Musical giants.
Insane how easy they make it look!
So smooth...
real musicianship as well as soul singing... Ella & Joe were the Best Ever at it!
One of the most outstanding aspects of Joe's playing is how great his time is. Guitar is already a very rhythmically challenging instrument, because it's dynamic range is so limited and finicky. Playing alone, accompanying a singer is especially hard, because singers have a tendency to push and pull on the beat to add expression, tension, etc. Joe has really good time-keeping AND a very tasteful, seasoned feel in his rubato playing.
He struggled with heroin and spent a great deal of time in prison in the 50s on drug-related charges, but his determination and commitment towards the guitar won the race in the long run. Even among so many amazing guitar players that have come around since him, he's still unmatched--NO ONE has "Joe's thing".
Agree!
First time I hear him but I'm blown away. There are so many nuances in his playing, this is really impressive
Probably the greatest jazz guitarist ever and one of the greatest jazz/music theory minds ever as well.
How rude and condescending that comment was..
Watch Tuck and Patty. Tuck Andress is managing these dynamic challanges of the singer with the foot controlled volume pedal of his electric guitar together with his amazing finger style.
Joe Pass was arguably the best jazz guitarist ever! You have to remember that he always played bass lines, chord melody, and lead,,, all at the same time! Next time you listen to another great jazz player, listen closely,,, you won't hear his impeccable timing and melodic combination of bass, chord melody, and solo work!!! R.I.P. JOE PASS
Let's say that there was no one better. Joe is a true American treasure. Our gift to the world.
Actually in his " civilian life he was left handed,as were many classical guitarists, and quite a few jazz guitarists.Jimmy Hendrix on the other hand ( pun intended ,! ) was actually right handed, but played left handed.
I knew Joe personally. He was a good friend of mine. Loved the guy. I also did his portait back in the 1970s. I had the great pleasure of hearing him live many times. No other Jazz guitarist I can think of has ever been able to do what he did on a solo guitar! I also saw him with Ella live (did her portrait, too! - but only knew her. Wonderful human being). Together, Joe and Ella together are probably the greatest combination ever, in the history of Jazz! These two giants of Jazz were simply made to perform together. Irreplaceable! The most memorable performances I ever had the pleasure to have experienced.
@@djangorheinhardt Crazy, I swear when I play *Castles Made Of Sand* it has that quirky left handed person's brain all over it.

This consert is flawless, Ella made this true (I know the crew behind the event did a good job as well). Even some technical errors she had, she made them disappear with her charisma. And damn, Joe Pass is awesome as well, his guitar skills are something that are not from this world, I can really feel the music...

She's almost 60 here. Her voice still sounds like it's woven from silk.
When I got to L.A. in 1975 and thought I was the hottest guitarist from Norfolk,VA, I moved into an apartment in North Hollywood right down the street from a jazz club called Donte's. Joe used to play there every Monday. I had all his records and I'd get down there early so I could get the front table. He'd set his wine on my table, we'd chat between songs and he'd ask me what I wanted to hear. He got to know me by name and I must have seen him there 15 or 20 times. One night he said: "Hey man do you know of any gigs? I could use some steady gigs besides just once a week here." I knew I was in deep shit if Joe was scratching for gigs in L.A. so I took up pedal steel and put the guitar in the closet.
Lovely story.
@ Mike Johnstone Quit your bullshit. Joe would have been 46 in 1975. Virtuoso was already out for over a year by then, Joe wasn’t struggling, and he certainly wasn’t asking you if you knew of any gigs around town. You’re most definitely lying. So again, quit your bullshit.
@@seltzer5334 You'd probably be surprised how many jazz genius types with great recording catalogs were and are struggling or have various issues not related to music. Many are great at music but not so good at the business of music. There aren't many rich jazz musicians regardless of their fame, status or discography. I don't know how many gigs Joe did or did not have on his calendar in early 1975 but he definitely asked me if I knew of any just like I said he did. Maybe he was in a lull between tours or sessions and was looking to scratch up a few gigs. Being in L.A. and being a fan of fingerstyle jazz guitar, I also met and took lessons from the monster motherfucker Ted Green who lived in my neighborhood and gave lessons out of his single apartment for $20 an hour, played weddings and bar mitzvahs and died semi-destitute and alone in that same apartment. And the great Lenny Breau who when I met him, was crashing on other musicians' sofas and trying to get his 7-string out of the pawnshop. In 1980, Carol Kaye wanted me to help produce an instructional video on Lenny like the one I did with her but he couldn't get it together. He was not a very good teacher and seemed kinda autistic and shy to a fault. A few years later was murdered under mysterious circumstances but he was an extreme case. I read Joe had drug problems early on but he seemed clean and was playing like a motherfucker when I met him but that doesn't necessarily mean he was rolling in dough. Last time I saw Joe was at Lenny's memorial jam in North Hollywood in 1984. Sorry pal. No bullshit here.
and how is the playing going for you now?
@@mikejohnstone8638 Wow... way to hold your temper. He could have doubted you, but didn't have to outright call you a liar. I do murals, and am pretty darn good, but I suck at marketing, so I know the feeling of having to scratch!

And to think, Joe was playing with his eyes closed...
Joe Pass is still the gold standard by which all jazz guitarists are measured, he and Wes Montgomery.
And Ella Fitzgerald was simply astounding also; she made it look so easy. Sinatra considered her to be the best female singer he ever worked with and that's saying something.
Joe cannot be surpassed, he knows every spot of the fret board
@@Monomonmamon Yes, be well.
.....and not using a plectrum....🎸🎸🎸
HOW COULD ANY ONE NOT LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THANKS.

The Godfather of guitar!
Yes indeed! Have never before, or since, seen anything like it
Terrance Pae did you realise you responded to yourself? I sometimes read old comments on videos and nod in agreement only to find it is my comment.
Dude, what the fuck are you are even talking about!? Just say no to drugs
Terrance Pae These are both comments of yours.

I was pointing out you spoke to yourself and didn't notice, and that I've done similar things before. I definitely must be on drugs yeah haha, you caught me.
Get a life, loser
i did my first solo guitar concert yesterday, i practiced years for that moment, thanks to Joe Pass for making me believe it was possible for me.
Wow I took my first guitar lesson 4 days ago....at the age of 58. Hope I get off the ground. I sing in church alot though but of course not in Ella's dimension lol.
I hope you performed well by the way.
@@garybryant8879 thank you. age is meaningless, i started playing guitar seriously at 27y im 33 now. just practice because you love it and you'll get to where you want to be
Joe Pass is one of God's musicians ❤ and Ella is one of His singers! 💕💓
have been listening to this legend since child hood , and never get bored with his music, such depth and feeling!
He chords faster than most pickers PICK! Love the post thank you. Imagine maintaining your concentration with 2 TV cameras rolling around between you and the audience and stuck in your face,What a PRO!
I saw Ella, Joe and Oscar Peterson, I guess late 70s, it was so amazing. What a concert.
WOW, just thinking about it is staggeringly wonderful!! OP is my absolute favorite, go-to pianist of the classic jazz era. And you can't get much better than Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald ❤🎶
This is the epitome of perfection... All the duets Pass & Fitzgerald recorded...
The perfect match ...
"Sunshine of my life" has left me in tears.
"You Turned the Tables on Me." Wow.
the queen of scat. Superb as she always was. Ella was a school of jazz singing to herself.
Joe is unbelievably skilled.
He can do anything he wants to do on the jazz guitar. Whether he is playing solo, duo, whatever, he is in command.
Ella is so great.
Both of them are such great artists.
Joe was at the top of his game during these years. Truly the greatest Jazz soloist to grace the planet. I can watch Kessel and Burrell and others and halfway figure out what they’re doing--With ‘PASS’- I just LET MY MIND WANDER in a mesmerized Trance like state of bliss☺️Ella is Heaven sent. Ella was improvising on most of the songs-playing-singing off Joes amazing phrasing!! What a Blessing to have these sessions ❤️🇺🇸
When Miley Cirus and all the others will be long forgotten, this will still be alive.
+Marlene M So True about Miley. Today's musical pop culture is bird poop compared to this.
Cu Dennis Not only Miley, but so many others like.... err... hm... can't remember their names :)
+Marlene M no chance. I WILL NEVER FORGET MILEY!!
god how I wish I had miley back in the 70's.
+gluckes :)
two of the best greatest minds in jazz music in the history of jazz , Ella Fiztgerald , her voice is the tool to express the best singing in jazz with her vocal range ,nuance and improvisation..and Joe's concept of melody and chord comping and improvisation, watching and listen those two icons is a pleasure you never forget..
It's very nice to hear the applauses a few seconds later of the end of the music. Today they start screaming and applauding when the musician is before the last bar.
I don't wanna see your collaboration on the show, I wanna see the artist.
