The irony of Exodia is that it also doubles as a balance warning. Like you said, it’s always one card away from being viable. So whenever Exodia starts seeing play, Konami knows some draw card or engine needs nerfing.

I think most if not all the "alternate win" cards are balance warnings.
Final Countdown, Destiny Board, Holactie, Jackpot 7, and so on are all impractical but have the capability to be practical. So if you ever see these cards make waves in the meta, it means there is a card that is seriously busted.

@@roncerjani9063 Yeah, but if history has taught us anything, Yu gi oh players don't limit themselves to Archetype when it comes to breaking the game. Nightingale caused a ton of FTKs and none of them required using Lyriluscs. And Crystrons have never been relevant but everyone knows of the archtype's Link, Halqifibrax.
I'm just saying, Holactie were to become playable. It wouldn't be because the Gods became playable, it would be because a card or combination of cards were made to get around that restriction. Plus on the off chance that an engine can cheat out all three gods in one turn, that would be pretty OP.

The Supreme King OTK was banned before Verte Anaconda was introduced into the game. Effectively the way you would enable the OTK was by using Instant Fusion (usually searched by Gate Zero and Infinity) to get out Nightingale and linking it off with Electrumite for Zeframetaltron before Pendulum summoning the 4 material needed for both Supreme King Servants to copy lyrilusc to burn for 4000 a piece. The deck usually bought out Electrumite turn 1 via Supreme King Darkwurm (which could search Gate Infinity or Zero) or Astrograph/Chronograph Sorcerer to bring out the other Magician. Usually the Gate monsters in the extra deck would act as material for the Supreme King.
Yet Konami rather than hit the issue cards, instant fusion and nightingale decided to hit Supreme King Starving instead.

There was an FTK that was as consistent as Toad FTK and could play through 1 interruption without issue, and its the FTK deck that got Ancient Fairy Dragon banned. Harpy FTK. You only needed 2 cards out of 28 cards in your opening hand to do the FTK, and you could play through an interruption if you had another combo piece in your hand which was incredibly common. (Especially since going first drew 1 card as well during that time.)
It worked by using the Genex engine and harpy channeler/dancer. You would get Divine wind of mist valley on the board, sync for Ancient Fairy dragon, and use AFD's effect to swap through field spells. Once you had some setup on your board, you'd swap your field spell to Black Garden to flood your opponent's board with rose tokens, then go into fusion gate to fuse off everything into burning phoenix and just burn your opponent into oblivion.
It got banned pretty fast in the OCG and was pre-banned in the TCG before it came out here.

Idk how long you've been playing, but they used to be very common, and used to come around a lot. Maybe not at the top of SJC/YCS, but especially in the DM/GX era they were a frequent entity you should have expected to regularly see at locals. Hand traps were the biggest killer of these types of decks. Even Herald of Orange Light and Hanewata were common side deck cards in 5D's era due to how often you'd expect to see this kind of strategy.

just wanted to mention that magical explosion ftk used to be a thing even before synchros, deck was basically a diamond dude turbo with reasoning and dmoc, then recycle with cyber valley to recover the milled magical explosion, was so consistent that almost won some SJC and was the reason why magical explosion got limited so early.
also i mention that the strongest point of empty jar FTK was during goat format, where cyber jar was not banned yet, abuse book of taiyou and the shallow grave and finish with card destruction chained with serial spell

My favorite is exodia incarnate. It has a ton of awesome effects including being immune to any card which affects it directly (ex, destroy all, target X, etc). It can only be special summoned by sacrificing a piece of exodia, starts at 0 attack points and gains 1000 attack points per piece of exodia in the graveyard. At the end of each turn, you return 1 piece of exodia from the graveyard to your hand. Funnily enough, while it does not "directly" benefit from cards, due to being unaffected, you can do things to target its battle phase such as equip cards, field cards, etc and likely other aspects of the card such as "owner chooses 1 card and adds attack" which i've seen affect it with "owner must destroy" etc

My set up was usually to try and get magical exemplar I think she’s called on the field, set up citidel magical abductor and another pendulum at the time and then use magical blast to rack damage and build counters for tempest.
Sometimes I could just use spell books for draws and counters to gain and then tempest but once I got tempest I knew the game was set for me rarely did she not resolve

At least could have group that into a "Topologic Bomber FTKs" group, because both Samsara Lotus and Amaryllis are still banned to this day before of those FTKs.
Also Slash Draw ftk also saw some succes even at some big events (YCS Milan ?) as a replacement as a Danger! FTK instead of the Dark World Canon Soldier versions after Firewall got banned (same the card is still limited to this day)

I know there's a way to make it an FTK instead of an OTK despite chain material being a trap card, but at the moment I can't remember exactly how...

Treasure panda Exodia is basically unstoppable if you opponent doesn't start with handtraps, and can "relatively" consistently play through an Ash, depending on if your hand started with treasure panda or not. There are a bunch of draw card alternatives that are only slightly less consistent than the TCG limited ones the deck can use.
It's definitely not great, or even viable, but it can win probably 80% of turn 1's if it doesn't get interuppted

I'd like one of these channels to explore a deck I discovered years back.
There was a Hard to build level up Dragon Deck that could lock your oponents field and secure level 10 armed, 8 Horus and 1 more high level extra deck Dragon.
The third being extra was really important, as the full effect could be made constant without it.
I still have the deck somewhere and managed playing a friend to repeat the end result with multiple different Fusions but King Dragun was my favourite as I could summon a fourth and had protection for dragons.
Without finding it, the exact decklist escapes me, but the deck successfully OTKd around 9/10 times.
Only way to beat it required massive beat sticks with effects protection and field removal. One of the Blue Eyes Ulti retrains; twin burst was good against it (cannot be destroyed by battle), IF you has effect and spell protection.
Only other counter was special summon prevention if you went first. If you went second was a 90% chance you'll be totally spell, trap and effect locked.
Deck is old now though and likely getting weaker every year

@@simonpetrikov3992 It can tbh, in the version of gem-ftk that I play, I utilize the punk engine heavily as it helps to make garden rose maiden which searches black garden, which makes up the core of the ftk. As an added bonus, the Punk engine allows me to go into an omega (formally the chaos ruler RIP) which allows me to potentially rip a ht. As well as this, I may choose to go into a photon lord which allows me to make a monster negate to stop any stray ht that may come my way. Similarly, before halq and chaos ruler bans, I'd make an apo. As well as this, gamma and imperm don't really hurt the deck as the opponent will control a monster thanks to the effect of black garden, and dd crow doesn't do enough against the deck to have any real impact. Main ht to watch out for are nib, ash, veiler and belle (potentially droll as well if you didn't just draw the cards you needed to search). Overall though, even if they did draw one ht you can normally play through it. Also, tear plays no ht other than havenis. So basically free wins if you go first and they don't have it or they miss their mills, especially since they now control a monster.
