    Love these O-320 videos. Would love to see more videos of the engine going back together. I may be doing the same project soon. Thanks for sharing.

      That's my plan. When I finally get around to building it lol.

    Just watched your Thorpe videos with my boys. Love what you're doing! Looking forward to more updates as the project progresses. I am buying a Long-EZ with an O-320 that has low hours but has run very little in the last 10 years. We pulled a cylinder and found the expected cam lobe damage, so we're going to be tearing it down. Thanks for the recommendation about Airworx. I'd love to connect sometime if there's any other advice you have based on how your project has gone.

    Glad to see the crank and cam could be saved. I'd love to see some simulator videos. Keep up the good work.

    Given that your into a full engine rebuild, I would be encouraging you to have the case professionally cleaned, crack inspected, dialed, decked and line-bored if required. Over the years I have had Divco do a number of my engine cases from 0-200's to 0-320 and IO-520-BA series and can highly recommend them to anyone. You would be surprised as to how many low-time GA engines fail hardness tests around their main bearing locations due to past overheating issues etc. Log-books never tell an entire story. Well worth the money and peace of mind it provides, avoiding the potential for a tear down again into the future. Great to see you progressing with the Thorpe rebuild. Keep up the work and safe flying.

    Thanks for the update! Looking forward to seeing it come together! Also, I’d love to see your simulator setup in future videos. I just experienced my first certified simulator last week in Oshkosh and it was awesome. We are thinking about building one for our EAA chapter.

      If you want help let me know. I built one for my EAA chapter and they love it. I can probably dig up my old build sheet for it and see exactly what I spent on it.

      @@MotoFlightGuy that would definitely be helpful. If you find it and could shoot it over to me that would be awesome!

    2:35 sandblasting the cases? Yikes!! That scares me.. why not just send them to Divco or Lycon, and have the O-ring grove mod done to the cases?

    • @MotoFlightGuy
      @MotoFlightGuy  Рік тому +2

      Why does this scare you? Either of the shops you mentioned would blast the cases as their first step, it is just crucial that you understand what type of blast media to use on aluminum. I do not want to send the cases off because there's nothing wrong with them and they are low time. This is an IRAN build, not a major overhaul.

      @@MotoFlightGuy I find it hard to believe they “sandblast” the cases.. with sand.. years ago, Mattituck had some issues where they bead blasted some oil sumps, and although they thought they cleaned it, the media came out and contaminated the engines. As for sending them out, if there’s nothing wrong with the cases, and they are such low time, then it won’t cost much to get them tagged. That O-ring mod is worth it..

    • @MotoFlightGuy
      @MotoFlightGuy  Рік тому +1

      @@thomasaltruda1243 they usually use a glass bead media to blast them with. "sandblasting" is just a generic term. Perhaps I should have used the term "media blasting" in my video.

      @@MotoFlightGuy either way, be careful.. it’s really hard to get it all out of all the nooks and crannies.. I would look at this as an opportunity to do the O-ring mod.. that’s really an awesome thing to do. As for media blasting.. what’s the point? For aesthetics? Paint adhesion? What about chemically stripping and a brush? Then Alodine?
