    A modification which you might like to do a video on John, by using a diode through which current can charge the capacitor and a high value resistor to restrict the discharge current. Helps the LEDs stay lit longer. Cheers, Bob

    Bulbs shine all around so work better in a diffuser than an LED which only shines forward (not to the side). The strips of LED's that come on the roll are actually Xener Diodes, not LED's but they are similar. Another idea for a softer light ... use a white plastic (or yellow if you prefer) drinking straw and poke an LED onto each end to replicate flourescent tube lighting.

    LED Strips do look best in the coaches. The old incandescent globes use to spread light in all directions, but I found, as you have, LED's tend to be quite directional and they tend to cause a more "spotlight" effect. I did find a single diode seems to work well also when using a decent capacitor with it. In a DC only layout a diode makes directional lighting possible, but running directly from the track on DCC makes that not possible. Another great video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Hi John, I like the way you stacked the Rectfier and Capacitor, this will fit nicely in my "Shorty" (one bogie) mining caboose. I want to add a potentiometer to the circuit so I can adjust the LED brightness to simulate lantern lighting.
    Having watched your other videos, I think I know how to add it or at least guess at it until it works 😂

    Hi John: Another great video mod about anti flicker lighting. Can I suggest that when using components like the caps, resistors and bridge rectifiers etc. If you can add a starting comment with the list of items used. Listing the unit used, its reference number and values to take notes to keep for your mod videos. Belated Crimbo & HNY 2017, but I have been busy caring for my ill mother since the end of Oct. So I haven't forgotten about you John to drop by and watch your videos etc. Best Regards, John C.

      Hi Dave & thanks for your continued support. I have had it in mind for a long time to do the very video you are asking for! The problem is there are so many different coaches & rolling stock that doing it will require different approaches in the best method? I have done a few of my coaches so maybe I'll start with them? I'll get onto it as soon as I can buddy. Seasons greetings, cheers, John.

    Hi John, sorry for my english but i have a question. Do you have rails for AC power? Because I want to add LED tailights for locomotive but I´m not sure, if I need bridge rectifier If I have DC rails and rectifier is on AC-DC. I think if I put other then rectifier diode for one way, it will be lighting only one way and if I turn plus to minus, the capacitator will not explode. You know what i mean? Thank you. :)

      Hi Ian. OK, I don't know about the Jouef version but I do have the full Lima TGV from the 80's. I have run it in two videos some time ago now. This came with lighting on the front in the form of a bulb of which I have replaced with my flicker-free circuit & LED. I cannot remember if the rear dummy has pick-ups as I haven't used it for a while so will need to check? Can I please ask...have you physically checked there is no front bulb which may be blown? Seasons greetings, cheers, John.

    Will this work with DCC ?

  • @ianturner2229
    @ianturner2229 7 років тому

    A little mystified as this is clearly a "power" coach that must be running on a DCC system (A/C Voltage), so where was the decoder, and why were you not taking the wiring from the decoder itself to the LEDS ? I guess you were simply trying to demonstrate coach wiring, but to me at least, it was somewhat confusing because you were not connecting to coach axle sprung coil wheel pickups etc. ???
    Just a thought mate !
