- www.coptool.co... - We are taking an Inside Look at the new Milwaukee M18 GEN 3 ½” Hammer Drill/Driver. First announced at NPS18, this 3rd generation model claims to be the strongest drill on the market, utilizing Milwaukee’s PowerState Brushless motor and offering 1,200 pounds of torque and 2,000 RPMs. But with the GEN 2 model already offering those same exact specs, we were curious as to how much of an improvement this new model truly is over the previous one. Watch to find out if this upgrade is worth your dollar...

I got both models love them the gen 3 drill is awesome and the impact driver is awesome!
Bloody love these - keep em coming for other brands. Best types of videos for new tools - teardown too!
The side handle is majorly improved, it won’t break the trans housing. It costs same also.
Just a heads up. I use 5 and 6 inch hole saws frequently and had the gen 2 for a couple years before the gearbox started going. So I picked up a gen 3 and it only lasted about a week before crapping out. Exchanged for another and that lasted about two weeks. They must have done something to the gearbox to make it that small which compromised the durability. If you are doing heavy duty tasks frequently maybe try to find a gen. 2
Where the Gen3 really shines is on speed 2(high speed) which you guys didn’t put at all in your videos. The Gen3 can do things in high speed that the Gen2 CAN NOT!!
Check my test - ua-cam.com/video/D4CG9fWqcQ0/v-deo.html. And i say that DW996 drills faster on 1th speed, than Milwuakee. Same on 2th speed, and 3th...oopss, Milwaukee havn't 3th mode. And my 2804 dead after 30 minutes of works. Electronic freak.
Amazing. Keep up the in depth reviews!
You guys are awesome! Keep up the good work........please.
Inside look? I was expecting some information on the gear train assembly. As a homeowner I have all Milwaukee tools. I wore out the gen 2 drill today and the cost of a new gearbox is almost as much as a new drill. This is the only Milwaukee tool that I have ever managed to wear out. Did Milwaukee engineer the gearbox to have less runout of the chuck and is it stronger than the gen2?
Lovely video. But the reason of having a hammer drill is to use the hammer mode which is absent in your review. Perhaps this is where the generation improvement is?
“...May want to wait for gen 4 to upgrade...” Now powertools are treated like smartphones I guess. Upgrade with each annual release? I plan to keep my current tools until they give up the ghost, hopefully many generations down the road. Lol.
I've only just upgraded my makita twin set after 11 years! Hopefully my gen 2 milwaukee set will last that long.
@emilio kowalski yeah im not paying 700 for a drill
The chucks on the Gen 3s can handle the torque better. The Gen 2's chuck had a habit of breaking due to the strain.
At least, that's the rumor.
Not a rumour, I had to send my gen 2 in a couple times due to the chuck failing.
my gen 2 chuck has been in fail mode for a few years. finally upgraded to gen 3.
My 2804- hmm it failed on me , after drilling a 1/4" hole 😢 I wish I can get help or something ?
I love my gen 3 tons of power and smooth just wish the chuck was better run out is horrible and won't keep tight
Will the gen 3 chuck fit onto a gen 2 drill? Than is the question....
No
when your gen 2 chuck fails, you'll get a gen 3 anyway. a chuck is 70 bucks, a used gen 3 was 79 bucks. a no brainer.
You can't get a Rohm german chuck upgrade because of the 9/16, 18 TPI threads on the gen 2 drill.
Very cool and new, but Honestly not a big difference between this and Gen 2 unless you are drilling big holes and only drilling big holes. At this point in technology, reliability and battery technology is more important.
I found this video very useful
What about the previously different chuck? Or the fact one has a digital torque sensor with auto slow down vs a mechanical slipping clutch for driving screws? Every tool review is just some idiot comparing drilling times and literally of 17,000 videos ive watched NOBODY has covered these obvious as fuck differences. Brb starting a tool channel.
What size is the gen3 chuck? Anyone know a good replacement chuck? Mine is toast.
Compare this to the cheapest corded hammer drill plz
Gen 2 if the price is right. Otherwise gen 3
Gen II had a wobble issue
“1,200lbs of Torque”?!?! Oh my gosh what does that even mean?
Great vid
Milwaukee coming out with 3speed Selector
It's on it's way. It's called gen 4 s + ... with ip64
where can i get that pcb
What about run time? If there's also a 12% increase in efficiency, that would be a plus.
Oh, and the chuck is better. The gen 2 chuck was problematic
Plastic gear?
Hell no...
it is made in where?
usa or china?
All Milwaukee tools are made in China. Sad, really, but they seem to be ahead of US made DeWalts.
I have Gen 2. Going to get another and a gen 3 to keep in my closet. Just in case. Lol
PS I own the tools and some treat em like they stole em.
Gen 3 just stopped working, not seen massive use, just clicks when I pull trigger, massive let down and not sure I have any faith in Milwaukkee any more.
Nice and not much talking like other
Miwau ki !1111111!!!!
روعه
Gen 2 looks cooler though, gen 3 looks like a dinky little toy
It's true It looks like a toy. But up against all the rest it wins, at least according to the latest #toolboxbuzz head to head.
No revolution..
Milwaukee tools are junk, we have a hammer drill at work. The weak 18 volt batteries will not turn the bit fast enough to drill through concrete, Dewalt batteries are twice as good. The Milwaukee tool rep was at Home Depot one day and said they definitely have battery problems.
And you work for Dewalt? LOL
Darrell Dorn Milwaukee Ceo invented Dewalt and was offered a bigger paycheque and position at Milwaukee, Dewalt is actuall Black &Decker. Ive blown two chucks on Dewalts. As to hammer drilling at work with Concrete only corded Hilti, corded Bosch are recommended. Milwaukee and Dewalt are for home users. You cannot compare them to workplace usage and are mean only for small concrete jobs at home. The concrete used at a power dam or a commercial building is a harder concrete than one used in the foundation of a house. Commercial concrete continously continue to cure and harden decades and century later. Residencial and sidewalk concrete less lickly to continue to harden after 9 years.
Black and Decker is best that Milwaukee? ahahaha
