- QUICK EXPLAINER OF HOW TO TAKE PART HERE: • Heya here’s a bit of c...
We know! Its short notice... which is why Christian is donating a sensational Neve 8816 to the cause! With such short notice we will only get a few submissions so its well worth taking part.
If you can't this video will lay out how Christian has being trying to jump on a continuum created by Steve Reich and create multi tempo pieces. A recent UA-cam video by @jeremiecarrier inspired Christian into action for pianoday... with.... urm.... less than a week to go!
To download the pack of stuff we've prepared for you to take part go and sign up to: thecrowhillcompany.com/hub
There's an instruction doc in there too for how to submit.
Thanks in advance for taking part and we'll see you back here on the 28th 7pm for the premiere and the prize winners announcement!
Check out the Marimbologist and his 15 polytempo tracks here!!! • 15 Note Poly Tempo Pen...

First of all, thank you to Christian , Hanson this will be the first time I’ve ever commented on any of his material on UA-cam, in spite of having watched every single video he’s made this instantly took me to some sort of autistic observation at a set of traffic lights as I watched two asynchronous éléments the clicking of the indicator in my car, and the observation of the car in front of me has the two elements found that brief moment of synchronization. Musically, probably a subject that could run deeper, philosophically the nature of things, but very interesting experiment and the best of luck to all the participants. What a great idea I haven’t subscribed to Crowhill yet, but I think it is about time I did .smash the bell, smash like support the generosity once again thank you, Christian Hanson.
"How Can We…?"…Wonderfully instructional video…Thank you, C for putting this (fundamental) info out there! 🤭
Looking forward to this one!
If you need someone who always goes out of tempo with the click in either direction, I'm your man :)
LOL!
My first time seeing polyrhythms like that. Pretty amazing the rhythms that develop!
I'm guessing the very end is improvisation, whatever we come up with? Because there is no reference note. Excited to do this! Fun and quick!
There are 15 bell notes throughout the project, after which, at around the 4:18 mark in the included Logic session, there are 2 more pairs of "pips" but without a reference note, that is how it appears on my end.
In your video above, at the 15:42 mark, after you've recorded the 15 notes, we can hear piano staccatos followed by a very low octave note as a finale at the last 2 "pip" sounds. Are we supposed to continue adding more notes there or do we stop after that 15th and last reference note we hear (named "15 E3 112_bip.wav" in the Logic Audio Files folder?
Thanks for any clarification!
The dratf instructions have not been finalized. It's quite difficult to understand what to do (bpm and so forth) for non Logic users.
Just load the audio file and play along. As I did at the end of the video.

just noticed it's labelled as a 19 GB download on the hub. It isn't 19 GB! It's 19 MB... Need to watch this again to get my head around this one...
Hi
Do I understand correctly that you need to record even specified tempo notes in the project and send an audio and video recording?
Another question is, is it possible to send multiple versions?
I want to use the piano library, but I'm thinking of doing more on a stringed instrument. If it turns out to be unsuccessful, I will simply leave it at your discretion.
What a beautiful idea! The last bells in the audio guide track (4:18 ff) contains no notes so i leave it blank(?)
Sure
@@TheCrowHillCo Ok, already uploaded. I decided to play the Notes in the end like Christian did in the Video. Cutting out is more easy than cutting in out of silence 😅 Cheers my friends!
Ha! Once again the the Anthony Bourdain. Best ambient television for the tedium of these projects.
Harmony Bloom is a beautiful little plugin made by Mario Neto that has a great interface and is capable of creating polyrhythms that go from mild to wild (I couldn’t resist)
Why is the cost in Euros when the address on the website is 30 N Gould St Ste R Sheridan WY 82801? looks shady...
@@MatthewSwastawell, for being such a ‘shady’ guy, he is communicating a lot on gearspace, keeps putting out updates based on user feedback and makes a lot of YT videos 😜 Wyoming is one of the handful of US States that allows non-US citizens to register a LLC. So if that’s your thing, you can do that, reside in Europe and sell stuff in Euros there. Nothing unusual.
I second that. HB is stunning both visually and the amazing patterns you can create from it. Some great demo videos on UA-cam by Mario the developer too.
* edit, fixxed!, the youtube short did the trick! thanks!* so, tried in Luna, Studio one and Ableton. but the wav files are split up in 34 separate audio tracks, starting from the same bar. there is no way to tell which tone goes is desired to which BPM. The documentation mentions the chart below still has to be made so there is no clear thing there as well. Now the obvious thing to do here would be to rip the UA-cam video. import it as .wav or mp3 and play along. However, that could result in a different clock rate which will influence the bpm ever so slightly. (not going on detail here, but that's why they invented external master clocks ) I do hope I explained it a bit better in this way, because I surely want to participate if not for the price than at least to contribute to this project. I would happily call in some help from my friend who is also a pro, but he is using nuendo/cubase and you guessed it: same issue :)
Just load the wav on the root folder or the mp3
And play along.

There's one problem with this assignment: It can only be played on an instrument with the pitch range of a piano. This will exclude guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, etc., practically all wind instruments, glockenspiels, xylophones, the human voice and the list goes on and on. It's also a problem with organs, because the envelope characteristics don't match with the envelope characteristcs of a piano.
Play in any register!

I think I have two issues. 1, With Dorico you can't drop in an audio track. 2, I don't have perfect pitch so I've no idea which notes you're playing. I'm definitely on board to join in on the next thing though.
Different Trains
as already mentioned: The dratf instructions have not been finalized. It's quite difficult to understand what to do (bpm and so forth) for non Logic users! I hope that this can be fixed e.g. one big play-a-long wav file or something. i am currently setting up my studio as we speak but importing the wav files just gives chaos inStudio one or ableton :/
Just load in the audio file and do what I did at end of video.
@@TheCrowHillCo I wish! :D but check out your face book pm to see what happens with me (and probably others as well)

no txt doc in the download?
Sorry it’s an .rtf?
@@TheCrowHillCo sorry no .rtf in the download either
So, how do we send the recordings back to you? (Not mentionned in the doc)
Should be in text doc?

Hello Christian,
I've been following you for a few years now, and even though it's not the subject of this video, I have a question to ask:
what happens to the “labs”?
Since last year, no more releases. Is this serie discontinued? Replaced by “the vault”?
Thank you for your response and good luck.
I’m no longer involved with Spitfire. I have no idea what their plans are. I loved making LABS which is why I was keen to continue with VAULTS.
You might like the video "I heard you like polyrhythms" by Virtual Riot, an edm producer who played around with this pendulum polyrhythm to create an interesting house track.
Oh, isn't that Eliminate's best friend?
You beat me to comment!
Literally just was listening to this and other polyrhythm songs this week (also "Virtual Riot I do like polyrhythms" and "The Earth" by II-L? which is different than this but an awesome song). Such well timed video.
@@declanb170it’s not by accident. I respect Christian’s ability to stay current and how he folds this into his marketing skills, as much as his music skills and creativity.
No instructional txt file in download (23/03, 2245)
In the ZIP file there is a file called ***READ ME***.rtf which is the instructions. Let me know if you have any trouble!
Hi Stephen. Could you check the current download again please? I've just downloaded the zip file again and it doesn't contain a read me file in either the main or any of the sub folders. Thanks. Simon
@@SimonMarkDawson drop an email to hello@thecrowhillcompany.com and we’ll figure it out!
Ah, it's the leading asterisks. The file shows up under Android and Linux but isn't visible from Windows 10. To anybody from Crow Hill, could you rename the ***ReadMe***.rtf file for Windows users please? Many thanks. Simon
@@SimonMarkDawson I've update the zip file!
The more a musician goes down the obsessive rabbit hole towards mathematical understanding of music, the further away they venture from what is commonly perceived as pleasant music. Down at the bottom of that hole is a torturous cacophony of noise. I have seen and heard numerous great musicians lose themselves to the math of music as their brains get off on the comprehension, while simultaneously abandoning all sense of musicality. "Mathcore" is a perfect example of this.
I wish anyone exploring that mathematical rabbit hole the wisdom to remember what is pleasant to hear without understanding the math.
Nothing in the hub... yet?
So sorry, comms error behind the scenes.... here's a WT link: we.tl/t-egAL3j87W1
Can confirm
I want to double check, on thecrowhill company website, through that download, with the last 2 groupings, there is no pitch provided in the click track(TCHC PDAY 2024 Audio Guide) and I believe same with the mp3 version, you have a different track playing called "final test pass" in the above video and I was wondering is the intention to have nothing there, do what you did in the video, or is it open for us to record something there of our own. Thanks a lot in advance and this should be a lot of fun!@@TheCrowHillCo
@@TheCrowHillCo Quick question for clarification, in your session, you have a track named "final test pass" Those last two groupings, are not in the tracks sent to us as tones, did you want us to track anything there, leave it blank, or come up with something creative? Thanks for your time!
@@TheCrowHillCo Thank you!
So any notes?
Check out Virtual Riot - I heard you like polyrhythms 👍
