    ***SPOILER WARNING**** I had a feeling going into this book that Ace wasn't dead and that became more confirmed when Max's powers weren't known to have killed anyone. I would like to know if anyone shares my theory about Lady Indomintable. I think she was on her way to save Nova's family and that Ace killed her before she could arrive on time to stop the shooter

      I saw Ace being alieve coming (I mainly was hoping), but the scene when Nova goes to find the healmet and Dreadwarden told her they never found Ace's body I new he defenaitly wasn't dead.

    I really loved this book! Marissa Meyer is one of my favorite authors ever. The Lunar Chronicles got me out of years of not reading and opened me to the world of YA, so yeah, she changed my life. I'm for sure more on the villains side and I just liked the villain characters more than the hero's. I did love Oscar and Ruby though, definitely hope to see more of them in the next book. Max, wow, what a cool and freaky power he has. Poor kid though, I'd definitely be a villain if I were him. I couldn't stand to be locked up my whole life. Omg that ending though! I never saw it coming either until Nova was going through the tunnels. For sure blew my mind! Ugh I can not wait until book number two! There better not be any delays with that one. Great video btw, I'm a first time viewer of yours!

    SPOILER ALERT
    my theories are that ace actually hired the guy to kill nova and her family, not expecting anyone to survive, and when he found nova and saw she had powers he took her in. Also i think lady indomitable was on her way to save novas family but maybe ace had hired phobia to kill any hero that tried to save them and he did, he killed her. Comment what you think

      J I omg..... I love this theory.... I just want to add that I can't stand how Nova just blindly follows Ace and mocks the renegades for the wrong that they do.... I mean both parties are a bit grey when you think about it...

      Awesome theory. Wish Nova had looked more into the documents about her family's death back at HQ! Also, I'm guessing that Lady Indomitable was just as kind/noble as Adrian 💚💚💚 so at this point yeah I can totally see how your theory works

    • @Imfarias1
      @Imfarias1 6 років тому +2

      Good theory but I disagree. The gunman was obviously there on orders from the leader of the Roaches, for reasons the father obviously knew about. It wasn't some surprise betrayal as much as a known consequence of earlier actions "off screen." Also, why would Ace hire a Roach gunman to do something so important as kill his own brother's family? It's too important. He'd do it himself or, if emotionally unable to, have one of his fanatical Anarchists do it.
      As for Lady Indomitable, no Anarchist killed her. If they had, they would have claimed credit for it. They were, after all, in a war with them.

      Sophie Dreamcast I like how they executed the twist too. In nova's thoughts, it seemed like she was in grief upon seeing the fake helmet. She also asks about mind readers when entering the headquarters. I feel like there's a half fourth wall break here, which might explain why Adrian's mind wasn't shown connecting the many obvious dots he came across, especially in the literal steamed hams scene where he sees the overdiversity of bees. You know, honey Harper? Anarchist? Cmon dawg. I have this prediction that there's something Adrian knows that he pretends to be oblivious to as the reader is literally reading their minds. If this book is woke, it ain't McWoke.

      Never believe someone is dead in a book unless you see a body, I was surprised by the ending but now that I think of it, they mention that there WAS NO BODY and I now I'm like I should have caught that but I didnt. I think it's because Nova seemed so mournful and I got so caught up in the story that I didn't realize it.

    I thought pretty early on that Ace was going to turn up alive. I don't think there were any real clues, it was just a feeling I had! I actually thought from the prologue (and still think!) that he orchestrated Nova's parents' deaths.

    I just finished this book, and I really enjoyed it. I love superheroes and the marvel movies, so this was right up my ally. I loved the talk of if Superhero's being in charge of society was a bad thing and if more power should be given to the people. I was also thinking that Ace might be masx's dad, or Adrian's, but we'll see in the next book.
    But that ending had me completely taken by surprise, I did not see it coming either!!!!

    A movie adaptation has some potential, but I don't want it to be a carbon copy of marvel or a yung adult film either. There's a lot here that could look really fun on screen, like ruby and Adrian's powers. I think I'd use that as a chance to add some horror like elements to the movie. Especially when Adrian was talking about the monstrosities he drew as a kid. A flashback scene of weird ass snake motherfuckers slithering creepily around a house just sounds really fun to do. Another idea I had is using stop motion in place of things that'd normally be solved with cgi. That'd look really cool. The book is easily an 8 or a 9/10

    I really loved the book! I do agree that some parts were filler and was unneeded. I definitely knew Ace was alive because the fake helmet being on display and Simon saying they weren't able to destroy the helmet was a big clue but that wasn't so much of a huge confirmation as when Simon tells Nova that with what little power was Ace flew into the fire. I really hope in the next book Marissa Meyer gives us a little bit of history of Phobia because I am super interested in his background. I thought Ace was the one to kill Lady Indomitable but when Phobia says the quote that was found on Lady Indomitable and Nova comments on how he is always saying it I was so shocked. And it got me thinking that Phobia must of really shown something terrifying for Lady to die. Well I hope we can get a little more background for some of the characters and did anyone feel that Ace doesn't really have that villain type vibe but more like a Thanos villain type vibe?

    In my opinion, this book felt like an overlong introduction. It wasn't really clear who the antagonist of the story was but I loved all the suspense. I was confused about where the plot was going but at least the cliffhanger ending foreshadows interesting events.

    I really didn't like the main characters. It seemed really obvious to me that Nova's Uncle should have been her prime suspect in her family's death, instead of her blindly following him while snidely thinking about how stupid and brainwashed everyone else is. And Adrian put his friends in danger by showing up in the sentinel outfit during battles, and making them stop and try to figure out who this new guy was, and if he was friend or foe. That was just selfish. What's interesting is how different this book is from the initial blurb for The Gatlon School for Vigilantes Book.

    • @Bookables
      @Bookables  7 років тому +1

      That's true! I remember that title now...I wonder why she didn't stick with that idea!

      (Very very late here but seeing this pop up in a couple discussions about this) Understandable that you don't like it but these traits are what make Adrien and Nova human. In Nova's case of course she blindly followed her uncle, he's the one who showed up(when nobody else seemed to come) and promised to protect her after the death of her family. Why would she think 'Uncle Alec',the one who did so much for them and her over the years, suddenly kill the family? And she believes everyone was brainwashed into idolizing the Renegades because that's what she thought happened to her and look where that thinking got her. As for Adrien, he was just a teen doing the normal teen thing of having plans that sound good or mean well but ultimately make things worse in the long run. Yes it's selfish for him to be the Sentinel but you know from the get go why he did it.

      Nova went back to the cathedral tombs and found food (and nice food, too, like cheese and grapes and wine I think and even a candle--I saw it as indicating that it was someone important living in the tombs) near the entrance or something. She said that the helmet was still intact, etc etc, and we find out that good ole Uncle Ace is the one Nova's talking to, levitating (still has his powers! Also, is alive lol). He says "good job my little nightmare" or something along those lines

      Bookables I will say, as soon as the council said they never found Ace's body I figured he was alive. But I loved the cliffhanger. I also love the internal conflict of hero vs villain within Nova. And the whole premise of the heroes having too much power (ie Agent N) and pointing out that normal citizens are not stepping up to help because they assume someone else (a Renegade) will were both great! Maybe the "heroes" aren't helping as much as they think.

    something i noticed when rereading renegades waa that no one in the anarchists really ever said ace was dead.

  • @annaliadesigns
    @annaliadesigns 6 років тому +3

    I feel like no one talks about (or even realizes) that the entire story is really about anarchy and dictatorship opposing each other and two people on opposing sides who are actually fighting for the middle ground (democracy) whether they realize it or not. The thing is that the dictatorship qualities of the council are hidden behind their good intentions and good morals. It shows the danger of putting complete faith and control into a government that, though they may have good laws and good intentions at the start, could begin to use their power to oppress and control people.
    Also, it seems highly likely that Phobia killed Adrian's mother (because he says the phrase and it would make sense that he could scare her so much she'd fall to her death) although I'm not sure why he wouldn't claim credit

    Ace is not Max's dad. They mentioned the powers of both his parents and neither match telekinesis. He got the telekinesis from ace when Hugh strapped him to his back to try to stop ace. Adrian, possibly. We know when reading nova's mind, that she acted like ace was dead. She even asks if there's any mind readers to someone at the headquarters. The guy answers no, but Nova might be tryna cover up that she's possibly aware that someone is literally reading her thoughts since they're written in a book. I feel like Adrian might be hiding something in his mind from us too, which'd explain why the most obvious clues he comes across seem to whoosh him.

I'm surprised he actually weaved his ass past the cutting floor that the book came from. At least the book isn't culture 2 level filler. There's actually very little filler. Everything that wasn't phobia had some just reason to exist at least from a stretch. But I have the iq to understand many things in the novel but where I see phobia, he's kinda just useless.

    Spoiler talk coming up: It's like animal farm but commentating more on modern politics and also criticizes the common trope of useless kill offs in stories of this genre. The plan Ingrid and Nova come up with at the end seems like a criticism on how characters will get dramatic death scenes only to be brought back as corporates build on cinematic universes. Basically, guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, and black panther will come back; fax. What happened in infinity war meant nothing tho it was slightly effective alone. Now what happened in renegades? Well, they attempt to fake their deaths.
