Books aside, I am LOVING that intro (because let's face it we all feel the same about 2017!) and that dress/top is SO nice! I think I'm going to treat myself to Every Heart a Doorway, I keep seeing it and I really want it! I agree that Crooked Kingdom felt like a whole new level!
The gentlemans guide to vice and virtue was one of my favourite books this year as well as Lord of Shadows! I also took the plunge and finally read all of Sarah J Maas' books in 2017 and I was not disappointed, I'm so invested in the characters lives right now that I don't understand why I took so long to read them!! And I also read the Six of Crows duology and am officially in love with all of the characters and the world, I need more books about those characters 😩 (side note- I love your top in this video, its so pretty 😊)
I saw the thumbnail for this video and I was just like OMG those are four of my fav books so I’m gonna love this video even more than I already love all of your videos
My favorite book of 2017 was Strange the Dreamer, i love it so so much! Can't wait for the sequel to come out! You need to read it!!! I read the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy because you talk about it so much in you channel and it was the best and now i'm a big Laini Taylor fan! Love your videos Kat, hope you have a great 2018!
The fact that Geekerella is on both Christine's and your top 5 lists is just making me so antsy to read it. I thought it was coming in the mail today, but I'm still anxiously awaiting for it.
I read it yesterday. In its entirety. I've been waiting for it for so long and I've been in the mood for a fluffy read, not that it's All fluffy, so I just zipped right through it (good thing it was my day off of work). I enjoyed it so much.
Great video ! I really like the way you talk about your favorite books, you don’t just give a summary and listening to you explaining why you love those books just make me want to read them !
Nice list Kat!!! I hope to read Way of Kind by Brandon Sanderson. I hope you will also! And thinking of City of Brass. That books sounds so intresting to me
Looking forward to your review on Turtles All The Way Down. As someone who wasn't a huge fan either it will be interesting to hear more thoughts on the book. :)
Aaaaaah! 2017 books you need to read. The first two are technically end of 2016 books but whatever. _Timekeeper_ by Tara Sim - A gay clock mechanic falls in love with a clock spirit, which is illegal. Also there's terrorism and beautiful cars and mystery and wonderful relationships and time getting stopped and everything is adorable but the angst is _real_ . Would've probably been my favourite book of 2017 if not for Lord of Shadows, HiAYLM and such. The _Half Bad_ trilogy by Sally Green - The last book, _Half Lost_ , came out towards the end of 2016. Half Bad is brutal and unforgiving and repeatedly punches you in the gut. And just when you think everything will be okay it ambushes you and pummels you into the ground. But in a good way. Nathan goddamn Byrn is one of the strongest, most admirable protagonists I've ever read about and all I care about is his happiness. _The Rules and Regulations for Mediating Myths & Magic_ by F. T. Lukens - A boy gets a job in the hopes of making enough money to go to college, but it turns out the job he gets is working for a man who mediates between the magical world and the human world. Adorable and fun but it really nails the emotional beats when it needs to. _Warcross_ by Marie Lu - A bounty hunter hacker gets a job working for the most powerful, richest man in the world in order to take down another hacker. In order to do this she is entered into the championship game of Warcross, _the_ virtual reality video game. Fantastic story with brilliant characters and great world-building. _Release_ by Patrick Ness - A closeted gay boy goes through a particularly bad day. At the same time, the ghost of a murdered girl rises from the lake she drowned in. Powerful and poignant, Ness knocks it out of the park. _The Language of Thorns_ by Leigh Bardugo - A collection of Grimm-esque fairy tales set in the Grishaverse. It was an utterly amazing book and I think everyone should read it.
I love how you recapped all the books you read before diving into your favorites. I'm reading A History Is All You Left Me right now and I'm enjoying it so far. I read More Happy Than Not last month and it made my favorite reads list, so I'm feeling positive.
I gave up on Six of Crows because I was in a reading slump even though I was really enjoying it so I know I need to continue... also just finished Strange the Dreamer and omg so great!!! Love your channel so much!
I know what you mean about Turtles All the Way Down. I felt like that too for most of the book. I think the ending saved it for me though. Not that it needed saving per say; it was good all the way through, but you know, saved it in terms of enjoyableness. The main thing I love about john's books has always been the endings -- the punch line, the take home message, you know? That moment where you notice all the little seeds he's been planting, the symbolism you didn't realize was symbolism and the way it strings together? So yeah, I agree it wasn't very enjoyable but it still managed to make me love it by the end!
YES the Six of Crows duology is such a masterpiece! 🙌 I'm currently reading A Conjuring of Light and I'm so with you on the Schwab obsession. Her worlds and writing are so good! I'm planning to get to the Monsters of Verity duology this year. Have you read The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy? Because they were my favorite reads of 2017 and I can't stop raving about them.
Your intro in this video is life. I'm glad you feel the same way I do about ACOWAR, loved it, but still wasn't a top fave of mine. Although Crooked Kingdom wasn't a huge love of mine, I liked the first book better. I can't wait to read the Wayward Children series and Sleeping Giants. I'm probably going to buy those soon.
GIRL YOU ARE SO BEAUTIFUL WTFFFFFFFF I CAN'T EVEN!!!!! AH, I'm so glad you enjoyed Seanan Maguire's books! I want to talk about her in a future video of mine and I've heard the books are great, but the fact that you think the books are also great is even better!!! YAY! As for books, I actually REALLY enjoyed Connie's (noodlerella) debut, on audiobook especially (the British accents really make it haha). I can admit that I felt like sometimes things were missing, but when things were not missing they were so fantastic and descriptive and I LOVED the characters and I can't wait for her next book! (It's Undercover Princess from the Rosewood Chronicles, btw)
If you're into internal drama and close relationships, check out If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio! It's about a bunch of Shakespeare theatre students at an exclusive arts school and shit goes down. It's awesome and has amazing staging descriptions and the author has an MA in Shakespeare and it's delightfully nerdy sometimes because of it. Also, I think you haven't read anything by Robin Hobb? Read them, they're so good! Personally I recommend starting with Assassin's Apprentice, but you could also go for the Liveship Trader trilogy or the Rain Wild Chronicles.
1) I love your lipstick and 2) I felt exactly the same about Gentleman's Guide, like I was sold on the characters but the plot didn't do enough for me. Great video!
i want to read and love geekerella, but i'm too scared that i won't like it, to read it, but hearing that you loved it definitely bumped it higher up on my tbr!
I'm so happy you enjoyed Geekerella! I'm not normally a huge contemporary lover either (I do enjoy fairytale retellings, though) but it was just SO STINKING ADORABLE!❤!❤!❤! It touched my geeky heart in so many ways, and made me cry, smile, and laugh. I actually finished reading it on my birthday and it just made me so happy I almost felt like it was one of my birthday gifts. Just...GAH! 😍😍😍 Definitely a top favorite from last year.
I only have three words for you this year and they are STRANGE THE DREAMER. Honestly, Kat, I like you very much and want you to be happy and I deeply believe that this will make you so, at least a little. Hands down, favourite book of 2017. :)
honestly kat, you're the first book tuber I ever watched and you introduced me into this whole new world and I love you so so much and honestly same about 2017 but I hope you rock 2018 and I BELIEVE IN YOUR GOAL TO READ 50 BOOKS!!! :) Edit: ALSO PLEASE READ SCYTHE!!! IT WAS MY FAVORITE READ OF THE YEAR AND NO ONE ON BOOKTUBE IS TALKING ABOUT IT AND ITS VERY UNDERRATED AND THUNDERHEAD(BOOK2) IS COMING OUT JAN 9TH AND I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT AND PLEASE PLEASE READ IT SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT!!! much love
Tbh I never thought about Cassie's books containing a lot of melodrama but now that I think about it you're totally right! THERE IS SO MUCH GODDAMN ANGST AND I LIVE FOR IT
I completely understand where you’re coming from girl. 2017 was tough, but Taylor and books were a big help for it. High key got super excited to see the snake ring on your finger though 😂🐍 Favorite reads of 2017 we’re The Dazzling Heights (the sequel to The Thousandth Floor), Wonder Woman: Warbringer, Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula, Of Fire and Stars, the entire Selection series, and Renegades!!! Pretty all over the place. XD but I really hope that things are better for you this year girly! Love you!!! 😘💜 *hugs*
Nice to see you Kat it's been forever you awesome human being. I still need to finish the mortal instruments and TID and the other books. Can't wait to catch up.
Going to read history is all you left me bc of your recommendation bc I read the sun is also a star last year bc you mentioned it in your favs last year and I loved it!!
Thank youuuu, Kat. Seriously, my day needed this. :) INow I'm in a quite good mood. I saw the notification and felt better straight away. And I'm sorry 2017 was rough. Glad you made it through swinging. Hugs.
i'm currently reading every heart a doorway and loving it, it kinda reminds me of neil gaiman's writing idk if anyone else gets that? also your vids make me so happy kat, i just sit down with a coffee and chill the fuck out it's great, thank you
I'm so glad I wasn't the only person who didn't enjoy Turtles while reading it. Such a complicated feeling while reading. That is a very accurate explanation of Cassie Clare's books :P
Thank you for uploading this, Kat! I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to literally show us all of the books that you read in 2017! Thank you, great video! 💛
I love your list, but I'm really surprised Gemina didn't get some love! I am biased because I adore the illuminae files! Don't forget Obsidio in March!
1. Lord of Shadows by Cassandra Clare 2. To All the Boys I Loved Before by Jenny Han 3. A Darker Shade of Magic Series by V.E. Schwab 4. Half Bad series by Sally Green 5. Tower of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas 6. The Ship of the Dead by Rick Riordan 7. The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue Mackenzi Lee 8. The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss 9. The Hating Game Sally Thorne 10. The Martian by Andy Weir I think you read all of these books xD except for The Hating Game which is a chick lit book
Loved the video! The lipstick is my jam since everything is all summer and hot in Australia so that dark make up just brings back the winter months, aka. reading months, for me 😂 My fav were Rick Riordan books (I started Percy Jackson... and then I read everything😂) because I was convinced by you and Jesse and Christina to give it another go and Im so glad I did 😊
ACOWAR hit my honorable mentions too this year, actually the first year where my number 1 book isn't SJM. FAVORITE FAVORITE BOOK THIS YEAR WAS TASH HEARTS TOLSTOY. Amazing Ace rep and a really cool youtube feature. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
THIS AESTHETIC THOUGH!!! HIAYLM is also my 1st read of the year and a favourite,hi5!Adam truly is a god of writing and I am forever in awe at how his books own my emotions and soul can't believe VE Schwab invented writing (jk i totally can, what a lady),Our Dark Duet is the one that claimed a spot on my faves list, though, haha LORD OF SHADOW OWNS ME.THAT'S IT.
Wellllll since you asked :) From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon (anything by Amy Harmon really) The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith (this is probably the weirdest, most ambitious, most devastating book I've ever read) The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta (or On The Jellicoe Road if you're looking for a different kind of contemporary) The Winner's Curse Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski
I really liked this video. I think it was so well done. Also, oohhh, I’ve been hearing real good things about Geekerella. I have to get to it ASAP as possible(I had to work in that Office reference).
Excellent list! I'll always agree with anyone putting VE Schwab on their top picks, and I would've too, had I made a video like this. But the top spot would've gone to Strange the Dreamer...and it's the 2017 book I'd recommend you pick up. It was as close to the perfect book at the perfect time for me. It was everything I needed and now I want so much more.
The Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson. If you liked the Mistborn series, love world building and character development, then these should be on your 2018 TBR
OMG i need to read the Six of Crows duology I keep seeing amazing things! its definitely at the top of my list! I keep seeing Geekerella in all these videos by book tubers but fairytale retellings just dont appeal to me. However I think you are the youtuber to finally convince me to give this a go so let me at it to my tbr this year haha.
Haha. You have become one of my favorite vloggers. I have been catching up on your videos and love your sass and thoughts on the books. Can’t wait to see your review of Empire of Storms. Unless you already did this and I have missed it :-/
Anything Jay Kristoff!!! Start with the Lotus trilogy if you want or just jump right into Nevernight Chronicles!!! Either way they are both fantastic fantasy series!!!!!
My favorite 2017 release (other than the six of crows duology, Geekerella, lord of shadows, little monsters) was Renegades by Marissa Meyer!! I also loved Tash Hearts Tolstoy, Warcross, and The Hate U Give!
I think you would really like Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor. I’m about halfway through and it is quite a lovely read! It’s my favorite of 2017 by miles(since I started it in 2017 it counts lol). I am definitely going to pick up more of her work. Congratulations on hitting 45 books! I’m still dragging myself out of a serious slump so I think I only read about 20 or so last year. Hoping to hit 50 this year though! Perhaps sometime I can get back to the 100 I used to reach. :) 2017 WAS a dark year! Three more to go, unless we get really lucky! Still, seeing the videos of you and your friends having such fun at all the bookish events this year certainly brightened things up! I hope 2018 is a wonderful year for you and your friends! Peace
lol I tried to guess the top 5 and I got 4/5. Not too bad :P lol Great video! lol I wish I'd read 45 books, but I was very slumpy last year. Hopefully this year will be better :D (I feel like that's the motto of 2018 lol)
You're looking very Feyre in this video.
Damn! I was trying to sort out who she was reminding me of !!
I just really wanna meet Kat someday... She looks like a total badass.
I can imagine that she would be the best friend you'll ever have...
Anro Theunissen agreed
AHAHAH your attitude in this video basically sums up how I feel about 2017
Books aside, I am LOVING that intro (because let's face it we all feel the same about 2017!) and that dress/top is SO nice! I think I'm going to treat myself to Every Heart a Doorway, I keep seeing it and I really want it!
I agree that Crooked Kingdom felt like a whole new level!
I don't feel that way about 2017. It was a fantastic year for me!
You re-reading Carry On all the time is the most relatable thing honestly I read it again this year as well
ON FLEEK IN THIS VIDEO KITTEN 😘
The gentlemans guide to vice and virtue was one of my favourite books this year as well as Lord of Shadows! I also took the plunge and finally read all of Sarah J Maas' books in 2017 and I was not disappointed, I'm so invested in the characters lives right now that I don't understand why I took so long to read them!! Love your videos Kat, hope you have a great 2018!
That opening to your video is literally my thoughts on how 2017 went.
Turtles All the Way Down was my favorite this year
Kat I'd love to hear about your writing! Not even a synopsis but an update of some kind would be awesome!
planning on it! :)
The fact that Geekerella is on both Christine's and your top 5 lists is just making me so antsy to read it. I thought it was coming in the mail today, but I'm still anxiously awaiting for it.
Whimsical Hufflepuff It's such an amazing book😍 i was so glad I picked it up because of booksplosion
READ IT!!! Such a great take on this tale.
I read it yesterday. In its entirety. I've been waiting for it for so long and I've been in the mood for a fluffy read, not that it's All fluffy, so I just zipped right through it (good thing it was my day off of work). I enjoyed it so much.

Nice list Kat!!! I hope to read Way of Kind by Brandon Sanderson. I hope you will also! And thinking of City of Brass. That books sounds so intresting to me
RENEGADES!! WARCROSS!!
If I seem rude, I’m just excited.
Renegades was written by Marissa Meyer, and Warcross by Marie Lu
I loved Lord of Shadows and Court of Wings and Ruin! Like you said their angst was my angst! :)
Looking forward to your review on Turtles All The Way Down. As someone who wasn't a huge fan either it will be interesting to hear more thoughts on the book. :)
I almost bought that book the other day. Glad now that I didn't pull the trigger!
Thank you for posting this 😊💞 As far as a must read book from 2017, I would say Warcross by Marie Lu!
Monty
I got all the feels just listening to you speak so passionately about Lord of Shadows and HIAYLM. Amazing video Kat; I missed you
I love how you recapped all the books you read before diving into your favorites.
I'm reading A History Is All You Left Me right now and I'm enjoying it so far. I read More Happy Than Not last month and it made my favorite reads list, so I'm feeling positive.
frenchtoast 'n' books Don't read 'They Both Die At The End'! It's great but absolutely heart-wrenching.
getyourcrayon13 I'm sure I will if I also like History Is All You Left Me. I also like reading heart-wrenching stories. It's also why I watch dramas.
So excited somebody else put Geekerella on their list! It made my top 17 as well and was such a surprise for me this year.
I love that you are such a big fan of Carry On just like me ❤️ it makes me so happy and not feel like I’m crazy
April Bancroft I read Carry On this year and LOVED it! I can’t wait to reread it one day 💕
Hoooow amazing was Crooked Kingdom?! It's also in my favourites of 2017!
Really liked seeing all of your 2017 reads at first!
I only have three words for you this year and they are STRANGE THE DREAMER. Honestly, Kat, I like you very much and want you to be happy and I deeply believe that this will make you so, at least a little. Hands down, favourite book of 2017. :)
I adore your snake ring!!
honestly kat, you're the first book tuber I ever watched and you introduced me into this whole new world and I love you so so much and honestly same about 2017 but I hope you rock 2018 and I BELIEVE IN YOUR GOAL TO READ 50 BOOKS!!! :)
Edit: ALSO PLEASE READ SCYTHE!!! IT WAS MY FAVORITE READ OF THE YEAR AND NO ONE ON BOOKTUBE IS TALKING ABOUT IT AND ITS VERY UNDERRATED AND THUNDERHEAD(BOOK2) IS COMING OUT JAN 9TH AND I HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT AND PLEASE PLEASE READ IT SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT!!!
much love

Yasss, A Conjuring of Light was one of my favs as well! Victoria Schwab is a GIFT, and that book was phenomenal in every way imaginable.
I very much respect your bold lipstick games.
I thought you were kidding when you said you'd show us all the books you read but you really went and showed us them all. I'm impressed.
High key got super excited to see the snake ring on your finger though 😂🐍
Favorite reads of 2017 we’re The Dazzling Heights (the sequel to The Thousandth Floor), Wonder Woman: Warbringer, Stalking Jack the Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula, Of Fire and Stars, the entire Selection series, and Renegades!!! Pretty all over the place. XD but I really hope that things are better for you this year girly! Love you!!! 😘💜 *hugs*
YOUR NAILS AND HAIR AND MAKEUP AND OUTFIT LOOK ABSOLTUTLY AMAZING
Ive been really excited to read They Both Die at The End by Adam Silvera and hearing that his other book is great too makes me even more excited.
Nice to see you Kat it's been forever you awesome human being. I still need to finish the mortal instruments and TID and the other books. Can't wait to catch up.
the intro to this video is a constant mood honestly
Going to read history is all you left me bc of your recommendation bc I read the sun is also a star last year bc you mentioned it in your favs last year and I loved it!!
The way you talk about Turtles All the Way Down is how I felt reading The Power
ooh interesting! that one is near the top of my TBR hmmmm

Awww, thanks. :) Back at you.
Kat's voice is so soothing, also outfit goals!
i'm currently reading every heart a doorway and loving it, it kinda reminds me of neil gaiman's writing idk if anyone else gets that? also your vids make me so happy kat, i just sit down with a coffee and chill the fuck out it's great, thank you
Add Stillhouse Lake by Rachel Cain to your TBR! It's soo good. Also, Warcross. Also, great video :) Lord of Shadows was my favorite of 2017 too
YOOOO THAT SNAKE RING 🐍 also I just started crooked kingdom and I’m HYPE
I'm so glad I wasn't the only person who didn't enjoy Turtles while reading it. Such a complicated feeling while reading.
That is a very accurate explanation of Cassie Clare's books :P
Thank you for uploading this, Kat! I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to literally show us all of the books that you read in 2017! Thank you, great video! 💛
I love your list, but I'm really surprised Gemina didn't get some love! I am biased because I adore the illuminae files! Don't forget Obsidio in March!
gemina was a 2016 fave! i'm so excited for obsidio, one of my most anticipated books of this year!
Katytastic oh my bad! I thought it was 2017, it's because I got to it too slow. I can't wait! Can't wait for your review on it too :)

can't believe VE Schwab invented writing (jk i totally can, what a lady),Our Dark Duet is the one that claimed a spot on my faves list, though, haha
LORD OF SHADOW OWNS ME.THAT'S IT.
Kat, you need to read the Program Series by Suzanne Young! It gives you all the feels and it keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time!
Otherworld is on my TBR pile! I'm looking forward to your December wrapup :D
Yaaaayyyyyyyy crooked Kingdom!!! One of my favorite books. Also I loved geekerella so much❤️❤️❤️❤️
I️ actually didn’t hate 2017. Awesome job reading 45 books!!!
I read 4 books last year. Am I awesome too?
Salah Al-Bloushi of course! Any reading is good reading! ❤️
Wellllll since you asked :)
From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon (anything by Amy Harmon really)
The Last Hour of Gann by R. Lee Smith (this is probably the weirdest, most ambitious, most devastating book I've ever read)
The Lumatere Chronicles by Melina Marchetta (or On The Jellicoe Road if you're looking for a different kind of contemporary)
The Winner's Curse Trilogy by Marie Rutkoski
You have to read Tower of Dawn!!!!
YESSSSS. I've been waitttttiiinnnggg!
I love how you speak and make your videos. You're funny. Love you
I'm reading "History is all you left me" and I like it. It's a great story.
Yessss Cassie Clare has been killing it
I really liked this video.
Definitely recommend Eliza and her monsters, amazing book both contemp with a little bit of fantasy.
Can't wait for your reviews on some of these books! *excited*
I reread more books than new ones this year. Even though the whole year was a giant reading slump....
support_the_weird Tbh every year is for me now, I miss reading consistently so damn much
Been looking forward to this video❤
“what is consistency” my moOD
Awesome video, Kat! Also, you need to read Strange The Dreamer.
Happy New Year Kat! Your outfit is so beautiful, definitely getting Feyre vibes!
Unless you already did this and I have missed it :-/
Kat posted a video, so this year is starting of really great 😄
Warcross my Marie Lu is amazing!
Love your smile girl, everything else too. Yah Kat
Peace
If Turtles was not a GREAT read I would suggest Sparrow by Sarah Moon. WONDERFUL debut novel. I hope she brings more to the reading world.
Great video Kat! I hope you find 2018 a better year than 2017.
Kat you look so bad ass in those colors!!! Love it and so not excited for 2018 like me meh...
lol I tried to guess the top 5 and I got 4/5. Not too bad :P lol Great video! lol I wish I'd read 45 books, but I was very slumpy last year. Hopefully this year will be better :D (I feel like that's the motto of 2018 lol)
