  • Here is my Roland 4x4x4 Challenge. The point is to create a song in 4 minutes with 4 chords.
    There has been some famous Keyboard players doing this challenge.. so I thought that even if I dont own a Roland FANTHOM, I have the Roland Juno 106, Roland JX-8P And a lot of Roland Boutiqes.. so I challenge myself :-)

    Glen: it's a great little tune, and you did manage to put that all together ( playing wise ) within 4 minutes, HOWEVER ( lol), there had to considerable amount of time beforehand setting up instruments, midi channels, balance etc. and so on.....this whole Roland challenge thing is silly: who cares if it is done under a certain amount of time? the main thing, IS THAT IT SOUNDS GOOD, and yours DOES!!

    Great setup Glenn. I have a little Roland JDXi myself. I would say your 4x4x4 was probs the best I've heard. Ive found musically its easier to be creative when I have less gear. Oh, dont feel sorry for me cos I just have a little dinky machine lol. I've owned a Juno6, 106, Jupiter 8, Prophet 10, Ensoniq Mirage, Emax HD when I was younger. Well done.

      I am using the Roland MC707 as my “sequencer”. It’s hooked up with midi to the external boutique synths used for this video.
      I just love the MC 707… and it has so many great sounds onboard as well, so I used external synths only for the purposes for this challenge. 😃

    is your Jupiter keyboard segmented into the different channels? Because i usually need to change the channel on my controller to control the different tracks on the MC-707. Great track, btw!

    • @GlennMainMusic

      Use teh auto midi channel mode lets you just select the track on the mc 707 with no need to change the master keyboard you are usin :-) Check this great tutorial for explaining :-) ua-cam.com/video/SfyU15BWAYE/v-deo.html

    Hi Glenn, so nice sounding music you are making! I would like to ask you about the Jupiter XM? Why did you buy it instead of Jupiter X? And do you use Jupiter 80 as MIDI keyboard for XM? I cannot decide which one to purchase. I do not like the mini keys for sure and I have other keyboards I can use as MIDI controller for XM. But I am thinking that it must be nice to have all controls on Jupiter X and standard keys and not have to reach out when changing shaping sounds. I am not planning to use it on the go. But there is a price difference. I hope that you understand what I mean. What is your experience with it? Thanks a lot!!!

    • @GlennMainMusic
      @GlennMainMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you so much David :-) I was so lucky to get the first Jupiter XM that arrived in Norway, and the X had not been released yet.. But I am using my Jupiter 80 as a master keyboaard for it.. The reason also for the xm is the portability of it. I can bring this as a "add on" synth when I do gigs abroad..(well.. 2020 was not the year for that)... And its great to bring as a "workshop" with my Macbook pro on hotelrooms and other "Not-at-home-places". It has a couple of built in speakers as well, and bluethoot.. and it works great as a soundcard as well.. So for my use it was perfect.. But I also HATE small keys.. If I use it as a stand-alone add-on and play cords or bass with my left hand.. I often miscalculate the right hand because of the difference... So I wish for the X actually... but I will keep my XM anyway I think.. Yes .. I am a collector as well..LOL.. I hope that answerd your question David :-) Best from Glenn !! and STAY SAFE !

    • @david_blazek
      @david_blazek 3 роки тому +1

      @@GlennMainMusic thank you very much for your answer!!! Yes there is always place for another synth! So I guess I will go for Jupiter X. Thanks again! 👍

    Congrats 🔥🔥🔥🔥 can you describe how can you use mc-707 as a main sequencer like a center. I have mc707 & jupiter xm. But i cant use them like you :( i think you set up your mc707 to use jupiter xm’s all midi channels and all parts (juno106, jx8p, jupiter8, sh101, drum parts) So you use jupiter xm internal sounds from mc-707. Any easy step by step guide to use like you?

    • @GlennMainMusic
      @GlennMainMusic  3 роки тому +1

      You can assign each track on the MC 707 to what ever midi channel you like. It also has 2 midi outs, so you have 32 midi channels in a way. The thing is that for every external midi/sound source you “lose” a track on the mc 707... so basically you just “change” the track with a midi/external gear. If you are looking for a “clean” midi sequencer I would advice to try out any DAW with unlimited tracks :)
      By the way, the Jupiter XM you set the main midi channel, and then it will assign the other parts after that... meaning.. if you set it to channel 4 then the parts are + one channel for each part ;)

    •  3 роки тому +1

      @@GlennMainMusic thank you for your reply. Before i tried to connect jupiter xm with USB midi to ableton daw. I couldnt set up correctly i confused.

    • @GlennMainMusic
      @GlennMainMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Be sure to have the latest driver and firmware.. it should find it as your sound card to :)
      When I travel I often use the Jupiter as sound card with the built in speakers.. :)
