Bobby Fischer was a genius... modern day chess players have chess engines and different programs... Bobby didn't have that so he had to do things naturally
With all things being equal and Bobby having the same engines and books, he’s for sure the GOAT. Creativity and genius. He would beat Magnus most definitely.
i think id like to see them not have engines at all and the other players go back into his time. he would absolutely wax them all, the guys today have inflated elo and learn the game ina different way that does not require the creativity or "genius" in the chess sense (not like actual level of intelligence) that was needed then. If magnus was anywhere close to as good as fischer then he would have a gap of nearly 200 in elo between him and haruki, but he doesnt and never has been able to have such a gap. not only that but fischer didnt go to a fancy chess school training like they had in the USSR, so it would be like if someone who didnt even have an engine and just used books was able to achieve such a gap over carlsen today.
Bobby didn't have coaches / 2nd players / computers / just old chess books and a brilliant chess mind....to beat the Russians in his time was huge as he had to beat entire Russian teams and the set-up's of the Russians to keep the championship in Russia...best way to make Kasparov angry....suggest or ask him if Bobby was better than him....really gets to Kasparov
The old Soviet grandmasters were amazing too A random top tier Soviet grandmasters would often provide commentaries and alternate lines for high level matches Decades later, Stockfish would prove most of their analysis to be correct

When Burns moved his bishop to Bg5, it was labeled a blunder and the commenter said he didn't understand what Burns was trying to do. It looks to me that Burns was prepping to move his e4 pawn up to kick the knight away on Nf6, leaving his bishop ready to take the pawn e7 and fork the queen + rook. That doesn't appear to be an oops tactic at all......
To me it was the best game. Because it’s not about accuracy but the attack and defence of 2 human brains. Chess engines would never be able to do a queen sacrifice like that and also to attack so beautifully afterwards!!
That game was brilliant combinatorily speaking, but not the best of BF at all, less the "game of the century". Fischer did deeper masterworks later in his career.
Fischer's only chess training came from books and magazines. No stockfish either to train. He literally solo'd the soviet team who would collaborate at night after games.
Imo Fischer is the goat, he had a very sad life and suffered severe psychological abuse from his mother that lead to his eventual mental breakdown. His rematch against Spassky is proof of his genius. He won even after years away from the game and practice against top talent and he still won. Truth is he was much smarter than Spassky which is why he agreed to come back into the chess world albeit temporarily.

My dad went to school with Bobby when they were 6 y.o.. Bobby taught him to play and they were friends till they finished public school at age 13. Who was my dad? Magnus Carlsen.
you cant approach it under the lens of engine analysis to judge skill level. the fact people have engines now and can see "oh this move should have been made, it wasnt that briliant of a game" is just fallacious at its core. Modern players almost certainly would absolutely get waxed by fischer if they were brought up in his time. His elo gap between his 1 and the number 2 was higher than anyone has ever achieved. that should be what people notice.
Bobby Fischer was a genius... modern day chess players have chess engines and different programs... Bobby didn't have that so he had to do things naturally
Bobby Fischer was awesome, crazy that he was only 13 that game, truly a genius.
Bobby would stay up all night with a flashlight and chess book studying under the covers so his mom wouldn't know.
Yeah
For future reference. It's called a windmill
Yes not sure why I couldn't remember it while filming lol. Thank you!
For sure a whirligig
Those windmills are lethal

Very cool!
Coconutdave
it would be interesting to know what Bobby was like as a kid
@@lellamas2778 . Its well documented. Plenty of books on Fischer's life starting when he was young.
Awesome!

Goat in my opinion
Bobby Fischer was right.
I know what you're saying.
I'd also assume he was targeted for that
@@lellamas2778 ofc he was.
About the J*ws, about the problem of modern Chess theory (memorization > creativity), or all of the above?
@@ChristAliveForevermore you would’nt get persecuted by your own government over your opinions on modern chess theory, now would you?
About what?
Would like to see 2 games by Kasparov: 1) his “octopus knight” game vs Karpov & 2) his fantastic king hunt game vs Topolov. Cheers!
And all that without any hints or preparation from PC.
Imagine what Bobby Fischer could have achieved if he had lived in the moderna engine chess era
I do wonder if Fischer would have enjoyed chess in this era but I have no doubt he would have still been one of, if not the best.
No question he'd be an elite player

How about picking one or more of his best games in the 1972 championship match? He was at the peak of his ability then.
Definitely will do plenty more Fischer games

The word you were looking for that exact set up is “windmill”. It was famously played by Emmanuel Laskar against Carlos Torre, 1925.
Thanks for this video. I've seen this games many times before, but never with this very interesting modern day computer analysis.
"Windmill"

who are these comentators asking such a stupid question Fischer was most dominating player of his time these are words of Kasparov!!!!
if you were to couple bobbys work ethic and intuitive genius with stockfish he would be rated a 3000 player in classical chess

at 3:30, why not show us what happens if white takes the knight? i think i can see how black would regain his piece, and win a pawn, but still ...
Fischer was not eaven close to what he was in 1972

Fischer taught himself Russian to read Russian chess magazines.
Imagine if he had access to engines to teach him.
He won too often to be anything except great.
If Fischer has the technology that we used I'm really sure he would overcome Magnus

Dude, you still on UA-cam. I remember you from ARB Chess System
He is the best that ever lived, by far. Magnus #2
Thank God he didn’t have an engine 😂

What happens in 20 years, when more advanced chess engines tell that today's engine was wrong to disagree with Fischer?
