  • Sermon on the Mount E32 - In his fourth teaching on relationships and conflict in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus encourages his listeners to ask God for what they need. Because the three previous teachings don't directly tell us how to respond in specific situations, Jesus emphasizes that the challenges of relationships require wisdom that comes from a deep dependence on God. In this episode, Tim and Jon discuss Jesus’ invitation for his followers to relate to God as a loving and generous Father who delights in giving us good gifts.

0:41 "Even when you evaluate, don't judge. In other words, don't make a final declaration of the motives and value of another person."

    You guys are the best!
Thank God for everyone at the Bible Project! Your perspectives and insights bring the entirety of the scriptures together. Reading the Bible was more like little short songs and random notes before I discovered The Bible Project-now it's more like an unimaginably beautiful symphony that reveals an endlessly genius Composer with every listen. God bless you!!!

I was wondering about this myself lately. I will keep asking, seeking, and knocking since our Heavenly Father is good and has everything we need. Loved this podcast. Thank you BP team.

James was Jesus younger brother, the likelihood of Jim having heard these truths a 1000x from big brother is completely within the frame of family dynamics of the time, still is in many modern cultures.

25:17 you guys already talked about james a little bit, but the question this brings up for me is "how do I know I've recieved wisdom."
I so know that these teachings aren't really a formula. I have often ended up back in james, trusting that God will give me the wisdom to steward my relationships well.
I've always been really interested in the overlap of the new testament teachings and proverbs. It's so cool to see how deeply the parallels and influence go

Ask: are there any logs in my eye? Is such and so a Pig-Dog?
Seek: what is the best way to remove any of my logs? How can I use that to show others?
    Knock: Ten years later,
Me: “I now know what’s wrong with you brother, and can properly remove the speck from your eye.”
Brother: “Someone must have prayed for me, the speck is gone now!
