you need to re-screw in the gold plated ring thats covering the converter. that will allow you to align the barrel with the nib properly. If you look at that ring closely you'll see that how tightly you screw it in controls the depth of the exposed threads which in turn determined the orientation of the barrel.
I’ve had my Carene about 7 years as well. I have two gripes - I get a blob of ink on the inside of my index finger as my finger contacts the ‘horn’ of the nib. And I can’t always get the nib to align properly with the top of the cap

It is good to know that it maintains its writing smoothness over the years even if the finish doesn’t hold up.
Inside gold fine. Outside is affected. Could it not be the environment?
Always hold the converter md twist from my one or risk wearing parts out.

look at my note above. you can for the nib to align with the barrel.
